As I heard that the new version of the game is going to be released soon so I would suggest you to add a shield indicator at one side of the screen which is going to show you how much damage has your shield taken, also how much time it needs to be repaired and last but not least if you roll over you will see this pannel you always see when rolling over an item in your inventory.

I hope you like my idea.

PS: I made this on windows XP drawing so it's low quality the Game Masters can make this better than me.

*GMs are not the dev team.

Also, isn't the how much dmg thing already there via colour indicator?>

Charge time, maybe.

omg

Omg I just posted this and there is already a reply after 59 seconds !
That colour thing is the timer. If the shield is broken there will be a flashing red light so you know that it's broken, you will see the colour circle loading untill the shield is repaired and the circle is blue.

yellow.

because when the shield gets back up, it doesn't at full health.
then, if you use the shield, you know that it breaks in one hit when it's red. or yellow if you are against lumbers or trojans or any boss.

Colour thing is how much health it is at.

Blue: Great!
Green: Okay
Yellow: Bad
Orange: Heavily Damaged
Red: Warning!
Nothing: Gone, regenerating.
Markings: Regenerated to Heavily damaged.

There is also the fact that it slowly regens.

Shield mechanics are simple and relatively fast. I don't think it's neccesary to display so much info.

There could be more subtle visual cues. Like color the hud with health bars at the bottom. Or replace the little heart with a cross.
Or tint the screen borders, call of duty style.

Why waste more space when there are simpler alternatives.

Thank you all

Thank you all for replying. Softhead explained the colours very well and Little-Juances gave more alternatives. I just want something to tell me that "Your shield is broken! Don't block! RUN!'' Especially for the new ghosts in the machine mission in where you can get your shield broken by a touch of a Big Iron's beam and don't even realise it.

You know what would tickle my internal organs into exploding all over my rib cage?

Take out the self regenerative ability of shields, but make a pickup that restores it to full health. The pickup drops more often than common status vials and you can only hold two at a time instead of three. You can only pick up a second one once everyone else in the party has at least one, but there are no restrictions to picking them up if someone else who does not already have at least one picks it up then drops it.

Are we all feeling good about ourselves? Well then, I better change that.

@Luguiru

Please no. This would make dodging far too overpowered compared to blocking, and would even further discourage the use of the shield.

my 2 cents

No, takes HUD spot for absolutely no reasons

And no to Luguiru

The shield system works fine, just get used to it.

Adding on to this

If the developers feel like its a bad enough problem, maybe a unique trinket slot that would give extra HUD stats?
Included could be:

-A shield meter
-Exact heat required
-Enemy health bars
-Or anything else you can think of (like something with the upcoming pets)

Shield meters would be great.

Perhaps a blinking light that takes up the damaged portion of the shield would start blinking faster and faster until the shield starts regenerating health?

It's kind of like how when you raise a broken shield, a similar effect occurs before your shield returns to its heavily damaged state.

Why do we need a shield indicator?

The shield itself already tells you what condition it's in. There's even a little flare around your feet when it recharges after breaking.

@Shamanala
"The shield system works fine, just get used to it."

No need to patronize, sheesh.

@Oatmonster
When you have bad latency like a lot of players do (including myself) often when your shield breaks, there is no visual indicator. Five seconds later, you raise your shield, only to see it immediately smash into millions of pieces, when it should have done that Five seconds ago. You now do not know how long your shield has till it recharges.

Thank you all

Thank you all for replying again ! But now that I know the players thoughts I would like to know the thought of a game master. I would really appreciate this.

@Greecej

"I would like to know the thought of a game master"

Why do you want the Community Managers to tell you their thoughts?

Last time I checked it was the Developers making the game, not the Admins.

@Hexzyle, Wouldn't the lag also affect the HUD elements? I don't actually know, but if it does, then this would be a nice addition. Just add an option to turn it off too.

People say no to this idea, but there is no point to say no. It is rather easy to implement and we could simply make it a toggle, so those who don't want it don't have to have it, and the people that do, can.

Not really unnecessary. Timing it yourself removes the problem.

We could have a timer above the player. When it goes, a timer either appears above the player, showing how much till full regen, or the broken area flashes red faster as it closes into partial regen.
