So, about them plate shields, is there a point for getting them if you have already a shield of each defense type?
-Is a pure normal defense shield a good idea or is just getting a specialized one overall better?

-Is Volcanic Plate Shield the best of the plates, leaving Ironmight plate shield the awkward middle child with the pierce defense that will probably never gets used since beasts and jellies are easy to dodge and is Ancient plate the ugly kid no one likes because he's all mossy and has nothing new compared to his younger brothers (not to mention lacking fancy glowy bits) or does it have some hidden redeeming quality to it?

-Omega Shell; A good all-around shield to have thanks to the crapton of health making up for the missing defense types or lame thing only good for costume piece while on Haven and make you think you are Donatello?

-Heater Shield: Best shield or Bestest shield?

There's no need to get Plate shield if you already have shields with elemental/ shadow/ piercing defense.
Pure normal defense is useful at Tier 1 and Tier 2.Only few monsters at Tier 3 deal pure normal damage.
Plate shield`s normal defense: Ancient>Volcanic>Ironmight. The difference between Ancient and Volcanic isn't big.Ironmight has more normal defense, compared to other "specialized" shields but if you really want pure normal defense-get Volcanic or Ancient,if you want piercing defense-get Barbarous thorn shield or Royal Jelly shield.
Omega Shell: I'm not sure what the health does but Plates have more normal defense+stun/fire resistance and I think they're stronger.[Omega is for Donatellos ? 0_0 ]
Heater shield: Grey Owlite is better. At Tier 3 you need less normal defense and more elemental/shadow/piercing defense.

Some research.

Ednodvetri is correct in saying that the difference between Ancient and Volcanic Plate isn't big. According to my own (limited) research, Ancient Plate takes one more spike hit in the ATH than does VPS. Don't diss Omega Shell though - Burq happens to be right on the money about it. Tests have shown that it has enough health to roughly compensate for the lack of specialized damage (though not statuses).

My research was done in this thread.

Ancient does have more normal defence than Volcanic does. If you're cornered by a single Trojan, that extra normal will allow you to tank the Trojan's slams forever.

I used to swear by my Volcanic Plate in FSC and Ironmight Plate whenever anything's piercing, but these days I just bring Swiftstrike everywhere, even when bombing.

Swiftstrike is quite good.

One of the annoying things about bombs is when you're placing a bomb and you get planted to that spot long enough for a lumber to knock the lights out of you. ASI on bombs reduces that time, making it a good accompaniment for bombers who want to get in and out of large groups of monsters quickly.

It is a valuable asset, but, similar to msi, it is not nearly appreciated as much/ gratuitous as much as the other buffs available to us knights.
