ASI on guns allow you to have less recoil after each shot so you can shield faster right?
So it only has its uses on switch shooting and not much else?

ASI on guns work the same as they do on all other weapons: All animations related to attacks go faster. The primary benefit of your attack going faster is that you can shield, move and switch weapons earlier than you could without ASI, and the secondary benefit is that, with the ability to fire more shots in the same amount of time, your damage will effectively go up.

I find Swiftstrike Buckler to be very helpful when using Autogun and Magnus as it'll greatly decrease the time you're left vulnerable using their attacks.

I think ASI on bombs just don't work. From my understanding, recoil does not have anything to do with this discussion, no?

ASI on bombs decreases time

ASI on bombs decreases time from setting the bomb down to the time it detonates, this WILL help to hit monsters but effectively you will not do more damage.

Tried. The only equipment that add ASI on bombs is swiftstrike buckler. It doesn't change time at all.

Having the fallen set and the swiftstrike buckler put together gives you an ASI Ultra, which according to research done by Zeddy makes the time you're stuck to the ground lower. ASI Ultra: Makes the time spent standing after you place a bomb almost non-existant. Who knows what ASI: Max can do...

@Poopsie

I have tried ASI Ultra with bombs (Swiftstrike Buckler and Fallen), and it's pretty neat! I don't like bombing without Swiftstrike anymore.

meep

definitely helps switch shooting for more DPS.

also helps shielding and therefore cloaking, and also running away. way better than ctr imho.

ASI = how long it takes to move something into place

With swords, you swing and recover faster.
With guns, you raise and lower it faster.
With bombs, you also raise and lower it faster.

Having ASI on bombs decreases the 'wind-down' time of bombs, making them a bit safer and also meaning you can juggle really fast.

Since I don't have anything better to do, I tried bomb with CTR: Max! (trinkets) and ASI:Med penalty (plate sets). I still didn't notice the big difference. I think I am hopeless.

Did you notice how Vana eventually caught up with you? If you'd used swiftstrike and ended up at ASI High, that would never have happened. You would've been able to run up directly behind him and stayed there during the whole thing.

FYI a bigger ASI also allows

FYI a bigger ASI also allows your guns to reload faster.

In a sense, VH+ ASI gives you a nice DPS boost. Add High+ Dmg and you've basically skyrocketed it. If you managed to bag a Max ASI and Dmg, enjoy your Supersonic Gun Trip.

@zeddy

Perhaps the movement speed decrease was to blame for that.

there is no movement speed decrease at plate sets, ancient however....

I'd like to clear something up.

If I remember correctly, weapons cannot receive ultra or Max! Uvs.

They only got up to Very High. which means the fastest Asi you can get for a gun without a cat eye hood(I guess. do these give asi?) or a swiftstrike is very high.

Even so, ASI increases for guns give the shots anywhere from a 'slight boost' in speed to 'cripplingly fast omg', with reload times also being shortened considerably.

Have you seen an asi very high on a magnus/callahan? Glorious. the bullets are so fast they're almost invisible (slight exaggeration).

also trinkets, armor

You're right that UVs go up to +4 (Very High), but there are many ways to get above +4: gun ASI trinkets, Nameless armor, etc.

It's really weird though how

It's really weird though how I'm the first one here to mention the reload time decrease property of ASI on guns. You'd think that a decrease in time of the one moment where gunners are truly vulnerable would be mentioned like right away.

nope indeed

On the contrary, Zeddy already said that in post #1: ASI on guns work the same as they do on all other weapons: All animations related to attacks go faster. Reloading is just one of the animations that takes place during attack.

Plus, depleting your gun until you have to reload it is for hipsters.

Which is to say I do that all the time. It just doesn't feel right to not reload.

Has been discussed ad-nauseam as far back as Fossaferox's OG slinger thread and most likely previously.

I've learnt when it comes to gaming, never assume you're the first nerd to discover something w/o at least researching the subject.
