I'm relatively new here and I fairly understand most aspects of the game however I really can't understand how the gate map works.
Do you go through every level or only one level per depth or something entirely different?
Gate Map
I wrote about gate maps on my blog a while back. They're fairly straightforward once you get the system.
Want some quick clarification, without having to sit there at an elevator waiting.
On a gate map where it's:
A > B > C > D
And you're currently heading toward C, what would be the next map to expect if you waited for the next change?
Does it actually follow the direction of the arrows to D?
Does it go against the direction of the arrows to B?
Is it completely random, meaning that it could be A, B, D or maybe even C again?
I ask because I sat at an elevator to five potential levels and the pattern seemed to follow the second option. Was I going crazy/misremembering?
Thanks for the useful information. Does anybody know how long before the level destination changes?
Typically like 7-10 minutes, or so I've heard.
Smarfle, I saw some concept art once, and I think the arrows indicate the gear rotating beneath you.
So:
player
======== gear
A B C D
If gear rotates < and player stays still, we see
player
======== gear
B C D A
I observed this for a while and was puzzled until seeing the concept art.
If I understand correctly, each depth has a series of levels that you could POSSIBLY move to. If it looks like what I made below (rough animation)
then it means that the first level has one possible level you could go through. After finishing depth one, you go to depth two and you have a chance of getting three different levels for THAT and on and on. Hope that wasn't too confusing (and hope I was right). -Nixxen
