I think that the OOO should invest on creating an app that is like a mobile auction house (on the go). This would help because some people have things on the auction house they want to check on, they are bidding on, they just want to search, etc. This would make the SK players lives easier.
Thanks for listening,
Jefferx
An App for the Apple products.
but practically, everything do do with an app is not waiting. while the energy system makes you wait.
mobile auction house? what would be the benefits? you can bid and sell things, but that is something you want to do when you have energy to craft or heating up or when you don't have energy but you want ce to buy. but to buy ce you need to be ingame.
tell me if I missed something.
The benefit of it would be for people who are bidding on items, and have to regularly update their bids
Outside of WOW, wich is like the godfather of MMOs now, does any game come with such apps?
This requires java, and it won't work on apps and androids... Please use your damn logic -__-
Outside of WOW, wich is like the godfather of MMOs now, does any game come with such apps?
SWTOR had an app that was really useful... Sending companions and getting goodies ^ ^
And I bet Diablo III will have one too if it doesn't already
Dude, it's an APP. Not the whole game. If it were the whole game, I'm sure he would have said WHOLE game instead of mobile auction house.
Pay attention instead of yelling at people for something you didn't even read.
This would cause a lot of lag for your phone, no matter how strong it is.
a. This uses Java, and apple doesnt use it
b. you would have to download the sprites for everysingle item that can be sold and would need regular updates
c. to do this ove a celluar network would cause a lot of lag for the network
O.o
The degree of misinformation by people who clearly have zero understanding about how technology works is astounding. The fact that Spiral Knights runs under the Java interpreter does not mean that anything interfacing to its servers needs to run Java. Take the forums for example. They need to check character names a user has in Spiral Knights, but they are coded in PHP and probably check directly using an SQL query on the game's database.
Eve Online is a great example of a game that has opened itself to app development by offering extensive APIs, (handled through http petitions with XML responses, I believe) World of Warcraft has the Armory API, which is accessible by third party websites as well as apps, besides their own app for mobiles. There's a multitude of apps for popular MMORPGs already available for mobiles. OOO would just need to provide the API interface that would perform the necessary database queries in the background.
+1. I would use this.
@ Klipik
The Database of the AH is linked with what type of code? Java or C++?
Java
There you go
AH = Java related
Just because the game runs on java doesn't mean the app has to. You can just log in to your account then it shows the AH and you check on your auction or look for something new etc. etc.

Dude, it's a APPLE app. Java does not work on most apple products, including apps. I did read, and it will not work. Also, the person suggested that it would be on a apple product (According to the title currently). No matter what happens, Spiral knights requires java in order to connect to your knights progress or for AH, too. This was suggested. How can you view your stats without connection to your knight? It is java, and this will never work.
End-Of-Input: The degree of misinformation by people who clearly have zero understanding about how technology works is astounding.
That was what I was going to say next. 1+ to you, End of Input
Yeah, sounds great. Now all I want is an inventory browser and making your phone into an Alchemy machine. (Crafting on your phone!)
Also, Android.
You're very, very silly. Spiral knights has to run on Java.
[Please keep the discussion constructive and avoid personal attacks ~Aphrodite]
Apple Products are sold to chumps.
Chumps think Apple Products work with every type of program. Including JAVA.
JAVA does not work with Apple.
Apple is for middle aged people and little kids.
This idea should go to the graveyard.
[No personal insults please.]
Name a Sega-funded game with an app on Apple that aids its' users.
I have a Mac.
I play SK.
I play minecraft.
:P

P.S: can a Dev/GM Please comment on whether or not this can work? I don't think there's a way for us to know without knowing exactly how the game is designed and which parts of it do what.
Gosh, you don't need a Dev or GM to comment here. You just need to know how technology works
Can you imagine how hard it would be to root an iphone?
Guys I have a Mac. It's an apple product. I use JAVA on it. Therefore your argument is invalid for discriminating against something that works with what your saying is necessary. You need to know from experience of what works in order to win a arguement in a valid way.
So your saying that it works on a android too? Because if you think it works on anything, your just a tryhard.
I mentioned "APPLE app" in here. When did I say "All apple products"? You don't really get the point of the technology. It can't work on apple apps, androids, because java doesn't run there. If you think it can, then why don't you just create a way to get java to run on it?
Also, good for you that you have a mac because I don't give a flying duck about it.
Canine-Valdmir: "JAVA does not work with Apple.
Apple is for middle aged people and little kids."
point 1: Except it does.
point 2: Is there something wrong with middle aged people? Or kids? or Apple?

P.S: @Sky, you don't know what parts of SK use java and what parts don't. For example, the account and login system clearly doesn't, since we can log on to the forums with those accounts and I think I'm fairly safe in saying the forums don't use any Java. For all you know, opening the AH window in SK could be the equivalent to opening a web browser with an in-game interface, like you can do in the Steam Overlay. Regardless, the information for the Ah is stored on a server somewhere, in raw number format. Probably not in Java. I don't think there's any reason an app shouldn't be able to use the AH function without having to use Java to do it.
Because I see,and I quote " java doesn't work with most apple products, including apps.", in that same post. Again u must be [snowed] if you think you need java on an APP that really doesn't have to have java. I don't even play the game with java installed and I'm sure nobody else here does to. Therefore, your arguement is pointless. If u think everything requires java u are dead wrong. I don't need to learn about technology as badly as you do.
"I don't even play the game with java installed and I'm sure nobody else here does to."
"I quote " java doesn't work with most apple products, including apps."
Also, you never quoted anything even.
Stop being a [Dumb mask] because I don't give a flying duck about the fact that you keep trying to tell me that all I say is just stupid.
Also, I play the game with Java, so don't say everyone doesn't
SPIRAL KNIGHTS, THE GAME, NEEDS JAVA.
THE OP IS ASKING FOR AN AUCTION HOUSE APP.
THE AUCTION HOUSE DOES NOT RUN ON JAVA.
THIS APP SHOULD BE OK.
Oh really?
Then let's see the consequences of what happens when installing the app.
Positive things:
-You can check the AH, without having to go in the game
-This would be useful for those who are going to Spiral knights without having spam invites
Negative things:
-It may not run on Java, but regular updates would have to come
-It may cause lag (MAYBE)
-In order to connect to AH, you must log in, and connect to Spiral knights with the Java. AH is in Spiral knights. Spiral knights uses Java. If you think this idea is good, please explain how you can connect to AH. I want all the steps, and explain how the connection works.
Until someone provides a very detailed explaination on how it works, then this can be settled. Otherwise, no.
"-It may not run on Java, but regular updates would have to come"
What would you have to update? I don't imagine game updates would affect just this part. And anyway, updates are usually pretty quick and don't come all that often.
"-It may cause lag (MAYBE)"
Maybe, agreed. Not sure why it would happen, but it's a possibility.
"-In order to connect to AH, you must log in, and connect to Spiral knights with the Java. AH is in Spiral knights. Spiral knights uses Java. If you think this idea is good, please explain how you can connect to AH. I want all the steps, and explain how the connection works"
like this.
Regular updates like updating the bids, items, featured items, etc... But the problem is how would it be updated?
Guys I have a Mac. It's an apple product. I use JAVA on it. Therefore your argument is invalid
insert Epic-Facepalm.jpg
the account and login system clearly doesn't
It clearly does... you are just talking about something you don't know
I think I'm fairly safe in saying the forums don't use any Java
What's the point of this anyway? The only link between this website and the game is that you can launch java into webpages... Which is common
For all you know, opening the AH window in SK could be the equivalent to opening a web browser with an in-game interface, like you can do in the Steam Overlay.
For all I know the AH was built in with Java-related network. Hence why it won't work with apps, a whole game is built in one language not 100. How do you seriously think games are made? 20% java, 20% C++, 10% C and 50% autocad????? are you brain damage or something? Think this through, oh wait you have no idea what were talking about, never mind!
Regardless, the information for the Ah is stored on a server somewhere, in raw number format. Probably not in Java.
Yes it is stored somewhere, like all SK data, you have so little on your PC, it's a MMORPG (shocking, I know!). Java is raw number format but whatever..... you won't even understand if I try to tell you (they have numeric value)
I don't think there's any reason an app shouldn't be able to use the AH function without having to use Java to do it
You think but you think about lot of stuff and most of them may not be right... Like this one, SK AH uses java... THE WHOLE GAME USES JAVA, TO EVEN CLICK ON THE AH REQUIRES JAVA.
I don't think I can make this more clear.
What would you have to update?
Dumb question dumb answer.... JAVA!
If SK gets ported to another coding language (which to closest one would be C or C++) then you have to rescript the whole game just to make this apps happens
Can you see from a market point of view how your demands are doomed?
I thought I'd edit my early post but I'll post another one to reply to Klipik, just because I have a specific request for you
THE AUCTION HOUSE DOES NOT RUN ON JAVA.
PROVE IT
Prove it that it's not in Java and that we are wrong, I will gladly say "oh well ****, you were right, it's not in Java and it could be turned into an app"
But AFAIK, this game (AH included) was made in Java, this is no D3 where the AH is next to the game, the AH is built... IN the game...
@ Skyguarder
To you everything is Java. You have no idea of the concepts and ideas it encapsulates, of client server models, database models, state models, its APIs, but everyone else is an idiot because you were forced to install the JRE to use the Spiral Knights client, so it's The Java all the way down. To me, the problem isn't that you don't know, the problem is how disrespectfully demean something you feel so sure about but whose architecture you have the faintest idea of.
All the data is in a database and all that would need to be developed is a web API that would likely perform some SQL queries in the background or expand and make use of the communication protocol that already defines what messages can be exchanged between the client and the server.
I already mentioned some of these concepts in my previous comment and you didn't even bother to inform yourself what they were about, yet you still continued to berate people who said otherwise. It's your job to make sure you don't sound ignorant. Imagine if someone came up to you and told you the value of π (Pi) was 2, and that you were an idiot for believing otherwise. How would they sound to you?
Just to drive the point home, here is the Lobo browser: http://lobobrowser.org/java-browser.jsp
Developed completely in Java, and it can browse all the same pages as any other browser. It does not give a rat's [rear] what the server is running on.
Your explaining is 100%. I like the way you said it. It is also true because Spiral knights runs on Java, meaning inside the game, it is java-related or connected.
/salute Shamanala
@End-Of-Input
Wow, I like how you broke a rule like Hyiaku. Please read the forum rules.
Section 2 (DO NOT), 2nd dot.
"DO NOT: Use foul, abusive, or offensive language. If a swear word is filtered in-game in Spiral Knights, do not use it on the Spiral Knights forums."
Anyways, Spiral knights runs on java. That means that most features including AH is java-related. It also has to be updated. If the app shows the current things, it must be updated, not by the system or automatically. If you think it can be updated automatically, it must use java to connect and therefore, fail to connect.
Read the consequences of it over here.
Since this argument is based on a technical problem a developer/admin/lemon should have the answer. Go to your kitchen and/or local grocery store right now and shout at those lemons for not telling you.
Well lug showed up and brought some humor with him.
I'm sorry sky but where did I break a rule? Because I read through my posts and did not find anything that broke a rule. Plz explain and quit acting like you know everything.
@end of input
Well great job at explaining it to sky though I doubt he paid much attention to it.
Agreed with Lug, everyone stop fighting about this. Our arguments are based on guesses about how the game is built.
Hyiaku, you broke a rule at this comment, so I reported you and the GM changed it. You and End-Of-Input broke a rule. You got so mad, and it's supposed to be a general argument, not an argument that is beyond inappropriate. I didn't start it. It should of been like this:
Me: This won't work because most apple products don't run with java.
Player 1: It should. My mac is a apple product
Me: Oh? But it's a Apple app, and it won't work
Etc... This discussion went like this:
Me: No, it won't do.
Player 1: It works on apple app idiot. I have a [snow] app.
Me: Dude, chill
Player 1: I'm going to ban you because you suck and you look like a (racist comment)
Me: Dude, wtf is wrong with you?
Once again, I reported you for swearing, so a GM censored it and changed it. Think I'm lying? Ok, you can report me and get me banned, which is impossible because I haven't done anything bad, unlike your inappropriate speeches and thinking your baby kings. And I did read through what everyone said... This idea is not going to get published anyways since it's only a suggestion and might not work out.
I also felt that when we have our own opinions and think something won't work, you just come in and say something inappropriate, thinking your a smart [elastic]
Kilpik is right, we should all stop fighting... He's right and finished the argument perfectly
You think you feel good calling me that? Just stop going up to me and call me an insult for no reason...
But have you ever looked back at your threads and asked yourself:
"Why was I being a jerk back there? Was the rudeness and insults needed? Should I've done what [insert name was doing]"
I've been there.
To be honest, sadly yes. I was a big jerk back then. I got a personality from someone that was tuff on the forums, someone stuck up... Well, almost... But I was also there
Oh wow sky, I said dumb. Somebody call the game masters, we got a guy that said dumb/stupid. Are you kidding me? And I agree with softhead for once. You are a hypocrit. U admitted that you reported me for an insult wen you pretty much insulted me as well.
And what is this that I need to see the eye doctor? I have bad vision I'll admit that but I'm not blind. You really need to quit being a jerk. Are you going to report me for saying jerk too?
Edit: just saw your post above but your not the only one. Still doesnt mean you should be a jerk. And no the conversation didn't go like that wen I'm swearing at you like crazy. I never even said one bad word.
This would be nice. For Android, too! Or just make an API that allows you to access this functionality, so other people can code the app.
