I was going through Snarby and I noticed that my bolted blade was doing more damage than my shocking edge against constructs. On depth 5 the bolted blade did 40 and the shocking edge did 37. I had on damage High from a fencing jacket and wolver cap.

And how much heat did your weapons have?

tier 1 bonus/penalty from correct attack type is less severe than tier 3 btw. Also just for fun, on some occasion proto sword 0* does more damage than hot edge/searing edge 1*. Try them on tier 3 :p

On tier one

players are not expected to have a sword or weapon/armor to deal with every monster type, so the resistance and damage dealt by monsters is less severe.

in tier two it gets a bit harder.

in tier three damage is almost ignored if it is of a resisted damage type, and armor is ignored if it does not protect against the monster's damage type.

isnt that sweet of OOO? a whole tier to study and know what you need to get to live.

Read the OP

It said the Bolted Blade was better than the Static Edge vs Constructs.

Now I can't explain that.

EDIT: I think Orbwanter has it, heat discrepancies would make sense.

It has nothing to do with heat, bolted is just stronger. Check the wiki.

Bolted Blade

Static Edge

Why is this? Both the damage bars on Static Edge add up to about the same total damage as Bolted. However, Static Edge deals two different damages, and both get resisted separately. The elemental part gets defended against with the elemental defence of monsters, (in the case of constructs this doesn't happen), and the normal part gets defended against with the normal defence of monsters (identical between all of them). In theory, this means that Bolted and Edge should be doing the same damage against constructs, but I suppose Edge's total is a bit less to make up for status.

If only Leviathan was balanced against Brandishes like this.

I'm still trying to figure out *who* was wrong. And about what, exactly.

To be fair, the damage table for Static Edge wasn't up when this thread was made.

But it's true, hot/static edges seem to be weaker even than proto swords on neutral targets.

They're ok for their status in T1 LD, but damage wise not so much unless the other guy has normal UVs or lack of elemental.

I know not to thrust on bars but this one is as silly as GF speed bar.
Even if elemental wasnt buffed on T1 and deals almost the same as normal, edges should be stronger

@Little-Juances

What are you talking about? If you add up the elemental and the normal portion of static edge, they become the exact length of bolted blade's normal portion to the last pixel. Nothing misleading about that, like I explained earlier. SK's linear defence simply means that several portions of small damage is less effective than one large portion of it.

Both of the swords where max heat.

You guys "people that give out advice" say that specialized damage is always better and in this case it is not.

It is t1 snarby.....

It is t1 snarby..... ffs....

And jump up to t2-t3 (where you will spend most your time) and see how relevant specialized damage types are.

I've been playing SK for far longer than you.
I know far better than you how specialized damage changes things.

I tested Caliber with Shocking Edge and the Caliber was still higher.

Please note that the Shocking Edge is a 2* weapon: its damage gets nerfed in t1 anyway, and it's possible for it to do less damage than its predecessor in the same levels as a result.

I would be mildly amused to know how long you've been playing SK for, though.

Also, 'were' is not equivalent to 'where'.

Node 53120 is credit to team

Like folks have been saying, specialized damage isn't as effective in Tier 1. In Tiers 2 and 3 it is easily noticeable.

Of course, this doesn't make normal damaging weapons useless by default. Nitronome, for example, is awesome.
