Been reading a thread about 'best LD player' and I noticed people mentioned arrow key playing in LD.
Now, I do this myself and the names being mentioned in the thread were Skybrandon and Eclaium.
Here's the question:
Who also does this? What do you think the up and downsides are?
Is it possible to match the really good strikers (see: the best LD player) who play with a mouse?

I use arrow keys for movement and aiming. I only use the mouse for precision aiming, and then my movement keys become wasd.
For example: In clockworks? arrow keys. In LD? Arrow keys. Annoying howlitzer behind a wall that I cant lock onto with a diagonal? precision aiming.
Jelly Run? Arrow keys.
Roarmulus Run? Arrow keys.
Shadow Lair Run? Arrow keys.
Blast network? arrow keys.
... I cant think of any situation where I manually aim other than to snipe gun puppies or subsets thereof; especially when it's so easy to hit things by simply strafing so that an attack will reach them

No doubt about the clockworks. No shame in using AT there and just cruising through with the arrows :D
However, this thread is aimed at Lockdown.
For example the signature striker 'U' (the little turn they make around you) isn't the same with the arrows.
Any thoughts on it?

I now play exclusive Recon which means less priority is placed on dodging for me. It would be incredibly difficult to play striker with simply arrow keys given how accurate thier dashes need to be to use the bar effectively.
Also, since I tend to use gran faust / magnus as a recon, I do not need to auto target.
So it barely matters to me.
But in LD, i do have a hammer as backup, i dont think theres nearly as much reliability to use a sword with arrow keys, i wouldnt even try to use guns with arrows XD
Honestly, i see no point in using the mouse to move other than more accurate navigation around thing life fire coals.
Being able to move and attack in another direction is a pretty big deal, when using mouse movement you cant do that, which makes it pretty bad in my opinion.
I use mouse because I use both swords and guns, so both require aiming. I don't use auto-aim and arrow keys as, simply, I feel a little frustrated at its snap-to sometimes, and the fact that inanimate objects have to be precisely lined up.
Were I to use bombs, I'd still use the mouse for charging, as I'm used to it.
EDIT: Stikers with arrow keys? It's impossible, you can only dodge in eight directions, only three of which are viable when up against a sword user. All eight against a gunner at distance, but three more viable than the other five.

I combine Arrow Keys and touch pad of my MacBook in PvE. Mostly Arrow Keys, I use them for normal attacks and bombs. I combine with touch pad when I use guns and swords charge. Caps lock key for AA on/off.
I only use Arrow Keys in LD. No time to move my hands from Arrow Keys to touch pad lol
Well, it is not impossible to match the best players (really depends on the player). If they use guns, it is not so easy to beat them. For us, Arrow Key users cannot use guns in LD (you can't aim) so you just have to stay away while the enemy is spamming polaris or whatever...but I tend to run into guns --wall of Polaris-- stupidly lol.
Arrow key users tend to:
Waste boost.
-while mouse users just have to move the arrow pointer with their mouse to face an enemy, arrow key users have to boost and run around and go behind an enemy...you know what I mean...well...no...
Lose the chances of attack
-mouse users just have to boost backwards while they are facing the enemy, arrow key users have to show their back to the enemy to go backwards...you know what I mean...uh...hard to explain with words. and this also leads to the waste of boost.
Aim badly
-whilst mouse users can face 360 degrees every direction, arrow key users can face only 8 directions. There is no problem to use sealed swords, toothpick, hammer first swing but very hard to use brandish, toothpick full combo, hammer dash. I try not to use AA as much as possible, but it's really irritating.
Some advantages:
May switch weapons faster..?
-well this depends on the sensitivity of mouse but usually keyboards sensitivity is better than mouse (if it's laptop at least)
Faster facing
-Many people say that I use AA when I do GF full combo from 0 degree angle to 180 degree angle. but it's because I just have to push <- key first and then -> key to do it. not a big deal
In conclusion, wasting boost is a big pain. and we can't use guns to stop the enemy coming to us while our boost is out. we cannot save boost from overusing unlike mouse users. it's our destiny. but i can't switch to mouse after such a long time of playing with arrow keys. if you are a new player, start playing with mouse unless you are planning to be pure bomber or something, it's much better.
I use arrow keys at all times. My mouse is heavy on this Compaq CQ58 Notebook PC.

I also get accused of using AT a lot because of it.
Seems like you need to master the strafe button, makes you waste less boost and you don't need to turn.
I made it my style not to run around people but strafe in front of them with small boosts to dodge (it's risky)
As for matching the best: on a good day -read: lagfree- I can go head to head with some of the better EU players and hold my own.
I'm a regular 10k+ striker like this and been playing for a while so I can't change to mouse anymore either.

I only use bombs, so I just use arrow keys.
Also you get that Legend Of Zelda feeling while using arrow keys.

I used to be a Striker and I could match First Blood guild or Kyrb, he thought I'm good and added me(you know him right?) but I switched to recon and he got better+I got worse at striker so I can't now lol
I used to do 13k to 21k really depends on the match but after switching to recon and spamming tempest I lost my striker skill and 13k is good for me those days haha.
I'm really addicted to increase cap numbers recently. Wait people to go away from a cap point and sneak up to the point like a ninja and then spam bombs >:3
Striker people are full of egotists (im not saying everyone) so I don't wanna be compared with them anymore. Comparing arrow key users and mouse users is just stupid idea.
TL;DR I was once called "pro" (not as good as other pros of mouse or game controller though) in LD but I got a lot worse, and they got better. Now I just stopped caring about damages and enjoying LD matches.
You will see me in LD anytime soon. Usually I'm recon and wearing black kat helm, vog cub coat, 45k prestige badge, and the name is Eclaium ofc lol. Give me a shout I might have a match with you but probably I'm a bit rusty so need a warm up.

because of my lag my points can vary between 3k and 16 in the span of one day (yes, that happened) so don't judge me on what you've seen ^^.
I have to agree on some striker being egotists but I will never not cap if there is an opportunity, that would be stupid.
As for kyrb.. well I only know him because his name comes up a lot in the 'killed by:' box :D

Yep, I understand that.
I can't even cap or damage when there is Polaris spam or full of gunners or bad connection/bad mood. Everything depends on the condition and match ^^
