Shield Costume!
I thought this would've come up before, but I searched and couldn't find anything on it.
A shield costume would be awesome! It would work identical to the Armor and Helmet ones.
I like the looks of certain shields, but the stats of others. It's very much like Armors and Helmets. The fact that the shield shows up on your back all the time is a pain if you don't like the way it looks.
I'm guessing this would be a popular implementation, hmm?

I traded in my cute pink Jelly Shield for an ugly slag of rock :( I love the idea of shield costumes!

I think shields might become more important in future updates, which is why there's no costume slot for them.
Sort of like if you played with people who had costume slots over their weapons or something.
Also, make it possible to not display the shields on your back at all! For a while a wore the Chroma Suit around, and I noticed the shield kinda clipped into the armor badly and it looked much better without the shield anyway. And then...
I ended up wandering into a Brawl without any shield at all. :(
Lol Shango :P That must have been a pleasant surprise
An option to show/hide the shield in areas like the Arcade/Bazaar would be a good feature. Some of them hide too much armor art :o (e.g. Stone Tortoise, it's huge, I don't mind that but it hides a lot of armor art)
I for one much prefer the classy look of my scarlet shield to the ugly ugly stone tortoise
For once, I agree with Shoebox.
@Shoebox: Do you mean that because they will become more important they will soon have costume slots? Or because they will soon be more unique like weapons that they should not have costume slots? Either way, I do agree that weapons should not have costume slots, as this would be just plain screwed up. It would just look weird and not make sense for the most part. However, shields are very much like armor in the sense that you don't really do much but block with them and wear them on your back. There's really no unique sense to shields aside from the art, just like Helmets and Armors - which have costumes. This is why costume slots would be useful for shields, because it would still look fine (better), be more customizable, and make sense, all at the same time. Weapons, on the other hand, would not make sense to be costume-able.
Although perhaps costume slots on certain weapons of only the same design would work? I mean, there's certain models used multiple times just with different textures, like for example the Cutter -> Striker -> Vile Striker -> Dread Venom Striker chain. Perhaps someone could be wielding the Dread Venom Striker but have the Cutter as a costume because the green clashes with their outfit -cough-. Although I'm honestly not totally up for this either, it's just an idea. I think it would just get messy and confusing, especially since we can ultimately have 4 weapons equipped at once.
I also like the idea of hiding your shield from being on your back. I'd probably be one to always have it hidden, unless I could get my hands on a Shining Ward (apparently non-existent as of now).

@Shroom: You only agree with me because that post is two lines long.
@Chronus: Do you mean that because they will become more important they will soon have costume slots? Or because they will soon be more unique like weapons that they should not have costume slots?
"What you're describing sounds like players basically forming walls, utilizing dead space as a defense, I like it. I've got something on the design wiki that also achieves what you're describing, however my interpretation involves cooperation between two players. That said, I can't go into details as I try not to talk about design concepts as if they are a current feature. Once we get closer to that point (implementation) you will begin hearing more about it." - Nick
That is what I mean by "I think shields might become more important in future updates".
Yes!
I think the Swiftstrike Buckler is such an unpleasant view :(
