Also, it's preferable to post newbie questions in the New Recruits forum. In fact, on the first page of the forum there is almost always a thread about how to set your picture on the forums.

How to: Forum avatar
How to make an avatar for the Spiral Knights forums:
1. Sign into your forum account.
2. Click forum preferences.
3. Click "edit" tab.
4. Click on an avatar.
5. Scroll down and click "save".

If you decide you want to change your picture all you have to do is repeat the steps listed above. Enjoy your new avatar!
See that little text at the top right hand corner of the page that says "forum preferences"? Click it, and then edit.
