sometimes when there are treasure boxes behind an energy gate, I have the chance to throw veils at the boxes to see what is inside before I open the gate. usually it's just crowns and heat, but is it worth it if one or two tokens drop?
is it worth the 3 energy?
until it's a danger room.
I can imagine a stampeding herd of brides armed with metal, flaming, spiked bridal veils and throwing them at unsuspecting men while the chaos crashes down the main street of an innocent suburb.
No need to bother yourself, the orderlies are already on their way with the electric nets. Before joining you at this diner tonight I was making people wear their shirts and pants opposite and walk on their hands while their feet clumsily attempted to behave as hands. Finding an appropriate replacement for their heads was a little difficult, but then I remembered guys have a second kind of head. If I go into further detail I am unlikely to be allowed out to join you for lunch again any time soon.
thanks for the (mostly) serious answers. I guess this answers my question.
Don't waste it if you need it, waste it if you don't need it.
I have an ele pass so when we are not in a hurry we usually open them...
If I have to craft or intend to use my mist then I don't.
I find it that danger area (arenas) are more profitable, but some are really hard (specially that arena with 50 turrets, rocket turret and whatnot)
I did the math, and 3 energy is worth about 219 crowns according to the market energy price today (7300 crowns per 100 energy)
I actually did find a room that had more crowns than that, so I opened that one. i guess I should just have a calculator handy now.
If there aren't walls around that gate room, you may use an Alchemer charge, a Pulsar shot or a vial to open boxes and see inside somehow without opening the gate.

...Treasure Boxes have a chance of dropping gear.
You could get a Four Star Helm for just 3 Energy.
I never got a piece of gear from treasure boxes before. but that's why I'm checking them first, right?
Keep in mind, that's roughly 1 energy per member in a full party, since (most) of the rewards are shared. It depends on how well the party is willing to coordinate and share.
hmm, good point. usually no one ever joins my game anyway, but yeah, I guess about 100 crowns to each player can be worth it.
a token is worth at least 100 cr (if you collect 100 of them and vendor the 5* trinket) so might be worth it if you have a lot of mist energy and aren't playing much.
