Well hello everybody and welcome to my first major suggestion.
I always thought it's odd that there are two bosses in tier 2 but only one in tier 1 and tier 3. That's why I worked on a little tier 1 boss myself:

Rockwood

A construct boss of the lumber family. Like other constructs it resists piercing damage while it recieves more damage from elemental damage. Rockwood can also not recieve sleep. Rockwood deals normal damage.

Now that we got all resistances and such covered, let's keep you wondering about the boss himself a bit more while we explain the floors before the boss.

the boss floors

The floors are called "the Aurora Springs"
The floors before the boss are very similar to the aurora isles. However, parts of the floors are manufactured by gremlins and similar to deconstruction zones. There are also some small ponds (which cannot be reached like the pond in front of the haven bazaar), and some places where there's water running over the pathways (not deeper than an inch).

The backstory of the aurora springs is that most if not all fresh water originates from these springs. Amongst this is the water in haven (yes, the clockworks are moving and pumping water from there to haven is probably hard as hell but just stick with me here). However, measurements have detected that the water isn't as pure as it used to be. Blueprints have been found for a giant lumber so your squad is sent to investigate.

After defeating the boss it turns out the the boss was contaminating the groundwater.

enemies

In the aurora springs are the same enemies as the aurora isles. However, there are also enemies called "Twigs". These are thin versions of lumbers. Their only attack is a swipe attack similar to the ones the retrodes do (they don't have a beam). Twigs also move at the speed of retrodes (they're basically gimped retrodes altogether).

Now for some art (sorry if it's unclear, I did my best at preventing that):

http://i.imgur.com/vLcwalF.jpg

The creature on the top left is a twig. In appearance it is similar to lumber, except that it's much thinner both in body and in arm. It also only has one eye.

Rockwood himself

Now to Rockwood himself. The name is a combination of Rockwell, an esteemed last name, and wood. You have probably seen him in the image. He is a giant lumber, with two incredibly long arms and no legs. The guy is stationary. The gear on the bottom and on his back are continuously turning.

Now for the stage. I used paint because I could use the colours and I'm not a star in other drawing programs:

http://i.imgur.com/cIPRZOB.png

Black lines are impassable walls (or ledges, or whatever). Grey lines are doors. The squares with hearts in them are those healer tiles. The big circle with a red circle in it is the party button. The big orange circle on the top is Rockwood. The blue lines going outward from lockwood are electrical wires, walking over them will electrocute you. The green spawn tiles are spawn tiles and the purple spike bushes are spike bushes, which damage you when walking over them.

Once all players stand on top of the party button lockwood will activate. He consists of two stages:

Stage 1

Rockwood uses two attacks. In addition, twigs keep spawning from the spawn tiles.
The first attack is a smash, similar to lumber. He lifts one of his arms up and smashes it either towards a knight or somewhere between the knights. This attack inflicts stun on hit. His arms work independently and reach throughout the entire map. All parts of his arm deal damage, not just the tip.

The second attack is opening his mouth, as seen in the picture, and firing multiple bullets, similar to the Roarmulus twins' bullet attack. The bullets however do not inflict any status effect and are only shot with five at a time.

During the first stage his body is rather dark and you cannot damage him by hitting his body. However, if during his smash attack his arm hits a spike bush his arm will get STUCK. Once stuck you can damage his arm until he pulls it back again.

When enough damage is done to an arm it will be destroyed and can no longer attack. With each arm destroyed one of the twig spawners will turn into a lumber spawner.

Stage 2

When both of his arms are destroyed you will continue to stage 2. His body will become lighter and now you can damage him from the front. Since both arms are destroyed both twig spawners will now be lumber spawners. He still fires bullets now and then.

Once enough damage is done to the body he will collapse and dissapear. The door behind him will open and the electrical wires will turn off.

the Reward

Players who beat the boss will recieve a recon module : aurora springs and a "Rocky Fruit", which is the boss token for Rockwood and gives you access to a couple of weapons, some pieces of armour and a material. The material will craft a lumber-like tree for your guild hall.

Yeah, I might do that in the future but I'm pretty horrible at balancing items for this game so they will probably turn out pretty bad.

So this boss fight is similar to those mech generators like the assault on machine town 13 or whatever it was called? Because it's that or ghost in the machine that is what this boss makes me think of. I like the boss idea nonetheless. Lumbers do kind of need some leader and smaller relative like how wolvers, alpha wolvers, and snarby are...would there be variants to twigs if they might become regular enemies in the aurora isles?

Nonetheless I like the idea of a lumber-based boss.

I'd redesign ol' Rockwood a bit. I'd position his cannon/face more near the base; at the moment, it seems more like he's going to menace us by firing bullets over our heads. I'd also give the stick arms joints; the standard Lumber's single joint works because it can bend as it attacks, allowing it's arm to hit ground level. Rockwood's arms start near the top, which leaves a good portion of the ground it can't hit due to it.

But otherwise, I'm looking forward to seein' more from this suggestion. I think you should still post up some armor and weapon ideas; you can have the forum members help you find ways to make it more balanced.

To post #4:I was thinking

To post #4:

I was thinking that twigs are similar to royal minis: they only appear on the boss floors. If they are added to the aurora isles however they would have variants (their looks would be similar to lumber variants).

To post #6:

I'll see what I can do. The problem is that once you move the arms above the mouth the arms start looking like ponytails, so the arms would have to be near the base so the mouth can be slightly above that.

Now for thinking up some weapons seeing how much they are requested: I will get back on this later today, but the first thing that comes to mind is a lumber-based shield. It would be a 2-star shield since the bristling buckler is also 2 stars. It can be obtained with 10 rocky fruits.

Since it's based on lumber, which is a construct, it would have piercing damage resistance. Since the darn things are made out of wood it has some negative resistance against fire (it would be the only shield with a negative resistance). Since it's still wood it would also have lower health than other shields. In trade for the loss of health and negative fire resistance the normal and piercing defense would be above average (using the defender as an average):

So in terms of exact stats:

By the way, I'm talking in terms of bars, the ones you see when looking at your gear.

Normal defense is 3.3 bars at level 1, 3.8 bars at level 10.
Piercing is 3.5 bars at level 1, 4 bars at level 10.
Health is about 2.5 bars.
Status resist: fire is -1 bar.

So compared to the 2-star defender is has about half a bar more normal defense, three quarters of a bar more piercing defense, but one bar less health and one negative fire resistance bar.

Interesting, and thanks for getting to my question on the twigs.

I'm looking forward to see if three rings might take note of this! Besides if there was a shadow lair boss of this, might I suggest it be a polluted aurora spring, with silverwood? (what I see the boss as, but I know someone can think a better name than mine)

Currently the shadow lairs

Currently the shadow lairs have poison (rabid snarbolax), freeze (ice queen), fire (red roarmulus twins) and curse (Vanaduke) so I was thinking the shadow lair version of the aurora springs would be either sleep, stun or shock.

I'd say shock would be fitting, with all ponds and water streams being electrocuted (ones you have to cross will turn on and off like electricity tiles), the area darker in general and all enemies replaced with shock-inflicting enemies. Twigs would be replaced with electwigs (electreant versions of twigs). Rockwood will be replaced with Shockwood, an electreant version of rockwood, who inflicts shock via his bullets and smashes and has electwig and electreant spawners instead of twig and lumber spawners.

shockwood +!

nice idea on the shadow lair. I'd assume stun to fit with my silverwood thing, but shockwood actually sounds better...and rhymes. XD

anyways that aside, I really wish this happens in-game. And I was wondering what the material and upgrades would be for the defeat of shockwood.

Just a thought; Snarbolax is

Just a thought; Snarbolax is pretty much considered the 'boss' of Tier 1, with it's defeat giving you the ability to buy gear fitting for Tier 2. With that in mind, it'd be kinda silly to have ANOTHER boss that players will want to go back and kill to get gear.

Why not make Rockwood the '0 star' boss and have Snarby resume it's reign as the '1 star' boss? As in, have Rockwood be the easier of the two to defeat, so progress can be shown as going from Rockwood to Snarby, and then from Snarby to Royal Jelly/Roarmulus Twins.

I want this, really sounds awesome and pretty thought out. But I agree with Knight-of-India, having rockwood as the 0 star boss, this addition would make Tier One longer, and give it more bulk in the game. Also, you could find him or snarby at the end of T1 in the clockworks.
And a new heavy sword line as a token reward, and a heavy gun, like magnus line but elemental, with a normal alchemy line too.

I think the boss token (sword) should be a large stick for smacking things :D the gun being a twig shot that does peircing damage (seeing how we have a lack of those) simply a blaster that does a diffident type the bomb (my fav) a bomb that has a massive radius low damage (normal or elemental) and knocks everything to the ground! (5* even Trojans and lumbers) for support/damage bombing

+1 c:

Here is my idea for the SL verison, as we will need one.
--- Twig change
The twigs should first off be renamed to Tesla and as you may be able to guess, deal a static effect when they hit you.
Attack one. Swing ; same as before but again, deals static effect on hit and elemental damage.
attack two. Tribeam ; as you mentioned, they were going to be re-skins of the retrodes but this would fire 3 in a Y shape. The center of the Y being the Tesla, one beam targeted at a knight, the other two go off in what ever direction they are going. Side effect of beam. If any Teslas are hit by the beam from the real up they also automatically start doing this, that means a chain reaction can start causing multiple static explosions trailing off making them quite nasty to deal with in mobs.
--- Rockwood and room changes
The spawners would obviously be replaced with Tesla spawners firstly. The spike bushes will be replaced with actual spike panels that function a 5 second timer were every 5 seconds it switches from on to off then off to on. For him to get stuck it would require the spike to be on. I am considering that to be all that needs to be really changed I can think of for a SL. Sorry for lack of detail :l

Shadow lair craft

I was actually considering that the SL craft would not be an armor, but a heavy swo-... we have enough swords so this is flawed :l. I guess it could be a gun or a bomb I dunno I need to consider it but until I figure it out i'll stick to the armor.
The armor and helmet would obviously be an upgrade to the Heavy Plate Mail and Helm.
Name ideas :
Iron Wood/Timber Titan's Plate Mail/Suit Helmet/Cap. Just a side note, read out one word on each side of the slash to see what it is meant to be.
Resistances :
It would make most since for it to have piecing defense as timbers resist piercing but we already have one so it should either be piercing or shadow to cover all types for plate mail. Similar states to volcanic for the resistance if it shadow so I.E. max normal and about half shadow but if it is piercing it should be half normal and full piercing to give it some differentiation from the other sets.
Status resistances : I feel a resistance to stun, curse, and poision all at half way would be good for positive buffs but an half full bar of negative fire due to it being made of wood and all should balance it. Also a negative shock resist about a quarter could work as well for balancing if needed.
