Hey, this is my first thread so I'd appreciate some feedback.

I have recently been doing spiral knights pretty frequently, and am wondering to myself about potential runs in the shadow lairs. I'm thinking out of all my current weapons,armors,etc. what's the best? I admit I don't have the best when it comes to weapons, but I am trying to stay diverse and small.

Guns
Pepperbox
Needle Shot
Shadowtech Alchemer

Swords
Snarble Barb (planning to turn into a twisted when I trade my crowns for 100 CE and alchemize it)
Nightblade

Shield
Bristling Buckler

Helmet
Wolver Cap

Armor
Elemental Cloak

what I am planning to be perfectly honest is a snarby set due to what I've seen from the shadow lairs. Since I have a buckler,snarble barb,and wolver cap. I only need the wolver coat, and the recipes to get to the 4 star variants of the coat and cap...and 3 star for the coat. I got my 3 star for the cap already.

If theirs weapons you guys recommend feel free to list them. I prefer swords and guns over bombs as preference however. I am thinking on getting the spine cone but that's undecided for now.

UPDATE: I have upgraded my snarble barb to the twisted snarble barb, as well as my wolver coat to a dusker..! I bought a dusker coat just for sake of not doing the recipe, and got ash tail cap and coat recipes. So since I got an elevator pass, I don;t need to worry about wasting energy at the elevators while I grind at shadow of the beast (it's a pretty easy way to get money, and frumious fangs!)

wiki "Shadow Lair"

Have you read the wiki article "Shadow Lair"? It contains brief advice on how to equip for each Shadow Lair. So try reading it and then asking more specific questions?

Your success in a Shadow Lair depends on how skilled, experienced, and well-equipped your team is. But you're going to be a drag on your team unless you have 5-star equipment. So I'd say that you're still a long way away from doing a Shadow Lair. (Sorry.) But we can still discuss your specific equipment questions if you like.

Gloaming Wildwoods also have

Gloaming Wildwoods also have elemental weak monsters, so you may consider to bring at least one elemental weapon.

@ post #1 I read the wiki on

@ post #1 I read the wiki on the shadow lairs many times, so I know what to expect. and I don't plan going down until I'm prepared. I plan bringing a good and experienced team. Besides I can;t even GO to one yet.

@ post #2 I do have my pepperbox on hand, so if you reccomend a sword that could possibly help, or if I use my piercing sword on hand, feel free to suggest

so...

So if you know what kind of equipment is appropriate for Shadow Gloaming Wildwoods, then you know that Nightblade/Acheron and Shadowtech/Umbra are not appropriate for SGWW. And, depending how you upgrade Elemental Hood, it probably won't be appropriate either; there's not much elemental damage in SGWW. So far you're looking at something like:
* Barbarous Thorn Blade: good
* ?? elemental sword: a good idea
* ?? anti-howlitzer gun: a good idea for someone in your party
* ?? crowd-control bomb: a good idea for someone in your party
* Barbarous Thorn Shield: good, although consider a shadow shield instead
* Skolver Cap: good
* ?? armor suit: shadow or piercing, preferably with poison
We can't give you much advice until you fill in some of those ??s.

I'll keep that in mind.

I'll keep that in mind. thanks for the tips too!

I don't plan using acheron and shadowtech till about when I decide to do ice queen or red roarmulous..likely ice queen since she's a jelly.

Besides I'm wondering about 1 thing. what did you both use for the shadow lairs? and why?

It's not just 5 star gear for

It's not just 5 star gear for a Shadow Lair:

#1: The right gear- If you have the best party in the world going in to Snarby with Sentenzas there is no way they can finish it. Ideally you should have some sort of shadow gear, especially a shield.. crest of almire or skelly line if your not there yet. Ideally you should have Full snarby, but assuming that you havn't done a shadow lair before this is not possible. In Snarby you need some sort of elemental sword (Divine Avenger or Brandish lines [excluding aecheron]), a pierce sword as well(final flourish), and a polaris for all the hotwizers.

#2: Skill: It doesn't matter if you have the best gear with the most epic lineup of Max and VH UVs. If you don't have skill you won't even get pass the first group button. Practice makes perfect: I recommend doing Koa a few times to get used to slags, and assuming that you have already participated in the Black Kat event, hopefully you are used to Kats. Always remember the hotwizers have a ditch attack.

#3: Good Party members: don't invite your best friends even if they beg if they can't get you through an SL. Not even ordinary 5* players. You would want to find some of those people AFKing at the Auction house that are really pro. Invite them in and play away.

#4: Make sure you have time: A fast run of Snarby takes typically 1hour 30 minutes, Take in the time it takes to get to the gate via arcade, you'll need about 2 hours and a half to be real safe. The last thing you want is for you having to leave in the middle of one.

Lastly: Good Luck
