It seems that people don't quite like others using Swiftstrike Buckler. I was even kicked out of a group for just using one!
I can hold my own fine in Tier 3 with Swiftstrike, and although it's not the greatest shield, the speed bonus helps.

So, why does everybody hate the shield so much?

I've never played with a good

I've never played with a good player that used one; usually the ones that use them in T3 are speed freaks with ego problems that like to just charge into things and not pay attention, and play exclusively in groups for free revives.

Unless you're that good(which very few people are), the additional health on your shield is much more important than the speed.

I am one of those "That good"

I am one of those "That good" people. Yeah, I use the swiftstrike buckler. The trick is, don't rely on the shield to cover you. Rather use the buckler to bounce back the enemies and ALWAYS run around! Don't trap yourself in a corner when running around! You can't bounce the enemies back. Oh yeah! Don't charge! Try to lure one enemy at a time than charging in.

But I don't use the shield in the Lord Vanaduke levels though. Because that is the only place that is laggy as heck! I have to use a 4* star shield at least from protecting me against the lag. Not the enemies! The LAG! from "accidentally" walking into the fire or random traps.

People who dis the Winmillion users and Swiftstrike users are very immature.

Why so cynical?

It's a great shield, especially for the gunners out there.

I like it for the added challenge. It teaches you to evade, shield-cancel, and push-back more often.

I think Quickstrike is good

I think Quickstrike is good in T2, but I also think it's time to put it down when you reach T3, just as I think it's time to put down Spur, Troika and the "I'm ONLY going to do X" mentality when you reach that point. T3 should be approached seriously, and from a numbers perspective the benefit of QSB is not worth the cost.

Maturity is overrated

Maturity is overrated anyway.

I take my fun very seriously. I encourage people to wear swiftstrikes for all their vana runs.

You got kicked out of one group, so everybody hates your Swiftstrike Buckler? Lighten up buddy. :)

Just create your own parties I guess, or play with guildies, that way you can't get kicked. I don't play in pick-up groups, but if I had a party member who died too much (and I didn't need the heat) then I'd just go for the elevator without rezzing them. Not a big deal and they might learn to be more careful in the process. :) But I can't say I speak from experience, perhaps some people just got callous from too many bad experiences with under-equipped players. If a player dies too much, you're "carrying" them through the levels and all they do is add to monster HP. My response to that would be: no heat for you. :)

I realize you're not one of those who die all the time. That's why I just suggest to pick your parties slightly more carefully, that way it stays fun.

Why so cynical?

My post was entirely upfront on why I dislike seeing someone join my party using this shield. I personally have a swiftstrike, and used it for a long time.

However, eventually I realized that attack speed isn't worth my shield getting obliterated in one smack. Most people realized this, in fact, and it is why the Swiftstrike is considered an unpopular choice for people unless they're "I've killed vanaduke twenty times wearing this thing" good. And even then, anyone with a brain will inform you that this game is more about surviving damage than dealing it, which renders the shield even further down the value list.

I like it for the added challenge. It teaches you to evade, shield-cancel, and push-back more often.

On people who play for "added challenges": more often than not, they're a liability, because they're not a tenth the hot stuff they think they are.

For instance, evading is a flawed tactic most of the time unless you're a gunner, shield cancelling will have your dinky toy shatter into fragments in one hit from most anything from T3, and the swiftstrike can't shield bounce nearly as well as other shields. Or, it couldn't, anyway. They may have changed that.

I'd rather not want to defend

I'd rather not want to defend my personal preferences since I get rather...personal.

The only thing I want to put out there is that variety is good. This game hardly has any at this point. You can bash people for being creative, that's your choice.

Doesn't Magnus have a video

Doesn't Magnus have a video of him taking down Vanaduke while donning the Quickstrike? I think that says enough about him and the buckler for people to think twice before kicking someone out of the group for the gear they have.

I don't really condone or encourage bolstering Magnus' ego, but 90% of the players you'll see using Swiftstrike are a farcry from Magnus.

You can bash people for being creative, that's your choice.

Creative =/= Good. Unique =/= Good. Creative, however, DOES often = Sub-Optimal and outright inferior.

It's your preference to use bad things for reasons that only make sense to you. That's fine, more power to you, but don't get upset when people tell you you're making bad choices.

You're right! I won't think twice about kicking them from the group because of their crappy gear.
I'll be kicking them from the group for likening themselves to Magnus.

Absolutely made my morning.

I just simply wanted to point out that things can be accomplished with it, and that, yes while its a 3 star shield, it has its advantages.
I would also add that for the majority I would leave it for T2, there is a reason 4 star gear is required to progress to T3. ;)

I do have Vog Cub. :P
I just use the swiftsrike for the EXTRA speed bonus. I have a proper 4* Shield for Tier 3 and all that, so don't think I'm crazy and use ONLY swiftstrike.

Hah, you guys start a whole debate over the shield, even if it has the speed increase. It's all a matter of preference, it seems. You either hate it or love it, case closed. It's better than anything, because if they made it have pretty good 3* def, then the speed bonus would be greatly nerfed, making it useless.

Ah, I worded "it's better

Ah, I worded "it's better than anything" I mean as in,
Without crap def low, with Crap def high. Either way, people will still render it useless to some level.
I'm not saying that it's better than all other shields, nonono.

I never wanted anybody to debate about it... I just wanted an answer to my question. lol.

The answer to your question

The answer to your question is not cut and dry, it is speculative and debatable, thus you got what you asked for.

Re: Vog Cub

Or you could wear half Vog, half Skolver and get a damage bonus while still keeping IAS Max. Or any number of other combinations.
