Starting SK Changes Theme

I recently had to erase Spiral Knights from my computer and re-install it. It now starts up and changes my Windows 7 theme to the Aero one on it's own, sort of like it does if you start something in Compatibility Mode. However, I have no Compatibility Mode enabled at all and never have. It is not enabled on the shortcut, or in the game, and the truly weird thing is still does this even if I start it up from the site. It never did this before I re-installed it.

Any ideas? Solutions?

Thanks.

Wait a moment, if I'm understanding correctly it turns Aero on? I thought you meant it was disabling the transparency effects.

It changes the theme on it's own.

Well I think that's what the theme is called, but regardless, it changes the theme on it's own. Not only does it take away transparency, it totally changes the way you can scroll over and view open programs on the start bar. It changes the "interactability" of everything, as well as the aesthetics.

In a recent update, they added this to the windows installer I think. Check the announcements, it's a test I think?

Wait...

Wait... they intentionally made an update screw up your theme? o_o If it is a test, I think it has failed, ahah.

Turning off desktop

Turning off desktop compositing frees up more graphics resources to run the game, and on lower-end systems it can be the difference between being able and not being able to play. Of course, the normal theme should come back when the game exits.

You should be able to restore the previous behavior by editing the properties of the Spiral Knights shortcut. Under "Compatibility," uncheck "Disable Desktop Composition." (see here for step-by-step instructions)

Thanks for the easy fix!

Okay I just unchecked it and it worked. I didn't think of that because it didn't seem to have anything to do with compatibility... though I should have tried all the boxes.

Thanks for the easy fix!
