Any of the passage type
Any of the passage type levels in the arcade like mechanized mile, slimeway, or haunted passage have a chance to spawn a nest in them.

See post #5, or post #3. Try to find Clockworks Tunnel-style levels. These are all of the levels that have gears as their icons, EXCEPT for deconstruction zones, which also have gears for their icons but which can't hold cake.

Clockwork Tunnels are the themeless, base levels that host Creep Cake nests. The themed versions of Clockwork Tunnels are named as follows:
Wasteworks, Blast Furnace, Power Complex, Cooling Chambers.

I believe you're referring to the 2 out of the 3 levels on the first floor (and 1 of the 2 levels on the second floor) of Iron Clover Gate, and 1 out of the 2 levels on the first floor of Ruby Knight Gate.
From what i understand, creep cakes randomly spawn in the clockworks. They apparently drop tokens if you find a nest in the clockworks of them. Not sure if thats correct but thats what im getting from it.
Update - Theyre their own mini rooms, youll come across mini rooms like in the cake mission.
