Suggestions for new content in SK:

Positive Status:
There exists already curse, poison, fire etc. that can all kill you, however, nothing that actually helps the player. Some examples of positive status' would be:
Increase Attack/Def: Increases attack/def by 50% or however much you might want for however long, say 30 seconds or something.
Regen: Restores 1% of health per second for 180 seconds
Haste: Doubles movement speed for 20 seconds, basically the opposite of stun.
Invisibility: Self descriptive, deactivates for 3 seconds or so every time you attack or take damage.
Invincibility: Self descriptive, 10 seconds of being untouchable
Rage: Increase attack, defence, movement speed, attack speed, charge time reductions etc by 10% for 30 seconds.
Those are suggestions for status' that do not kill you. They would most probably be induced on the player by a vial or whatever brilliant idea exists out there somewhere.

Proximity mines:
A bomb that explodes only when enemies enter its blast radius. Laying down another while it is active will destroy the first one without it exploding.

Deployable gun puppies:
Or something else that can stand there and shoot for you for 20 seconds. Could also be a deployable love puppy. Ideal for defence.

Snipers:
A gun for players that is single shot, has very long reload time, can allow a player to see beyond their normal field of vision (the scope), greatly reduces movement speed while in use and of course: does massive damage to a single target.

Spread defence shield:
A shield that defends against all the elements, but with only a quarter strength compared with regular shields. Applicable to armour and helms.

Hope these suggestions look appealing.

Knights need no more buffs, the game is already too easy.

Battle Sprites are coming out soon that will do similar things to what you've suggested here.

Contention with your opinion.

Easy is subjective, but in terms of player content, it rather lacks in SK, which is one of the reasons why the game got an appalling 62 on the Meta-Score..

The bad
We have positive statuses in the form of UVs and armor bonuses. They might not be as big as your examples but they are permanent and they are enough. Any more power would be overkill. Besides battle sprites are coming and they may have similar effects to those.

Snipers are kind of useless. Most fights are in closed medium-size rooms. The few places that would favor long range aren't worth the trouble yet. By the time you do one shot, all the other enemies will close in and swarm you.

Spread defenses: The way defense works makes these kind of things weak. Having too low of everything = having nothing

The good
Proximity mines are tiresome. I'd rather spam a nitronome than deploy the mine and wait till it does something.
But could be interesting in LD. Maybe they won't detect recons and guardians could absorb them. A small step into removing strikers clones and forcing team work :P

Deployable turrets could be like a stronger mecha knight, but without the movement to follow you for the rest of the level.

@ Little-Juances

your point on UV's is aptly noted.

Spread defences: The point of a shield with spread defence is that it is extremely versatile. If you still play clockwork levels, enemies in a single stratum can range over every type if they are still the same status. Lets say you bring the stock aegis against the stratum because the gate map tells you that the first enemies are jellies. You complete the course and then realise that the next level is devilites, followed by gremlin/constructs, followed by undead. What use is your shield except in the first level? A shield that covers all will be better than a shield that covers 1.

Your point on proximity mines is interesting, but very subjective. Spamming a nitronome is the fasted way to get hated by your party. Hence the name: blue screen of death.

Actually

Some of these already exist.

Invincibility and Damage increase can already be acquired by using a 1000 CE revive.

@Blazenar

We don't need a shield with spread defenses because "Health" is already our "spread defense". If our shields just had defenses but no health, they would crack instantly when hit with the wrong damage type: All shields are versatile, just some more than others.
Normal damage is another form of universal defense, however it is more orientated towards melee damage rather than ranged.

If you want an example, look up Omega Shield and Ancient Plate Shield.

@Unstable-Ordinance: Invisibility also already exists. Recons can become invisible in Lockdown as their "shield" ability. Increased defense exists for some enemies, but not for knights.

@Blazenar: You can change your gear at the beginning of any stage except for ones in the middle of a boss stratum (which have the same enemy and status types throughout). Even in the hardest stages of the game, there will only be two prominent special damage types at a time. There's no reason to have a shield that defends against everything decently when you can pick a shield that specializes in defending against whatever damage type(s) you'll face next.

There are most certainly going to be buffs introduced along with pets. I will bet you 500 CE on it.

the metacritic page for this game should not be considered...

...by anyone to be a representation of anything. the PC gamer review is far too heavily weighted, and the review itself is obviously by an inexperienced player who ran out of mist and came to the conclusion that the game must be terrible because of it.
