Compilation of good information, good thoughts, and good attitudes even though unlikable updates are put into the game, showing players that truly love this game. Not all of the players I have taken the quotes that I feel deserve to be noticed are players that support this update. Regardless, they won't let a UI change "ruin their day". It's refreshing to see players remove the blindfold of rage.

In fact, I find the quotes from players against this update but still optimistic to be the most important rather than fishing for those who support it.

Most of the players quoted below are players who don't just give feedback but give good feedback. Of course, many more exist. I personally pulled these quotes based on time of post, as in these were said before people were given time to simmer down.

1. "The UI will evolve over time" -Eurydice

2. "The devs are working hard on fixing the broken stuff right now" -Eurydice

3. "Also, @ 'If it isn't broke, don't fix it.' If we followed that logic, we'd still be stuck in the 1900's." -Malsvir-Merchant

4. "If you're saying that OOO isn't going to change anything about it and that they don't care about our feedback, you're making a hella big assumption" -Troupe-Forums

5. "I can't wait for my eyes to get used to the new layout." -Worknplay

6. "Oh well...I'll keep on supporting my guild" -Autofire

7. "but I suppose we should be grateful that the Spiral Order has actually been making technological advances and are willing to share them." -Windsickle

8. "This update will take some getting used to" -Agazide

9. "Let's start with the good things about this update." -Biznasty

10. "Most features were bashed here on the forums, so my expectations weren't very high. But in the end, some stuff just wasn't as bad as mentioned here." -Ultraflo

11. "First off, I'd like to begin by acknowledging your hard work by saying thank you ... Second, the UI is a major pain." -Icegill

12. "For the most part a nice UI update giving us a fresh look, nothing we won't get used to over time :)" -Rich-Tbiscuit

13. "Other than all that.... good job on the update. I'm not necessarily averse to change – I want to accept it as much as possible. " -Latisan-Sklay

14. "Hopefully some of these will be easy to fix, and I look forward to seeing what's in store for year 3!" -Confusador

15. "I guess I can take comfort that you guys arent as bad as Hi-Rez, at least." -Burq Can't deny this one, lol!

16. "When I am unhappy. >:X No not really. ;P" -Xspiral-Ace

17. "The actual UI looks kinda ugly to me atm but I figure that's more out of me being used to the old UI than anything else." -Addisond

My thoughts.

I feel like I can't really get used to the new UI. It's too shiny, and a little obtrusive for me. And uncomfortable. I feel like the old one worked well; I didn't see anyone pushing for a UI change on the forums or in-game. It's a big change I didn't particularly want and wasn't given much warning for. So, for now, until I can find a way to get used to this (highly unlikely), or revert back to the old UI somehow, I'm occupying myself with other games.

Also, slightly unrelated, but I've heard that the UI can be freely modified. I'll try to get an older copy of SK off of another computer in my house and see if I can take the UI files from that and replace the new ones with the old ones, then report if it works. Just in case anyone was interested.

I-

Luguiru was immediately shot in the head thirteen times, targeted with two consecutive air strikes, grenaded three times, swarmed by bees, flattened by a catapulted cow, rolled over by a whale humming a merry tune, shoveled into a bucket, taken to a secret laboratory, poured into a machine, reconstructed as a pair of black dress pants, sold to a teenager, locked away in their drawers, withdrawn from eternal slumber on prom night, worn by a guy with no date, had punch spilled on him from a bully, transformed back into a box, beat the solids out and back into the bully, grew two jet packs, burst through the ceiling, propelled into outer space, floated around for an indefinite length of time, pulled in by gravity to Cradle, burned up on arrival, spontaneously reconstructed into a box again from the power of eyebrows, found myself as a knight, ridden by my knight-self as a trusted steed, then destroyed the universe.

Let's be clear.

Sorry guy, but the new UI is clashing with the existing style. Like Aekuryi said, it's too shiny and distracting. It might be good for a different game, but it's just not a good fit. I know it sounds like a subjective thing, but the art style is what brought me here in the first place.

http://threepanelsoul.com/2012/12/04/on-skeuomorphic-design/

I absolutely know that Three Rings can do better than this, because their art lead is incredible. I am a hardcore SK fan and have been since release, but this UI is too ugly to live.

Some things

"The devs are working hard on fixing the broken stuff right now"
That was the bugs in the UI, before the second patch.

"Also, @ 'If it isn't broke, don't fix it.' If we followed that logic, we'd still be stuck in the 1900's."
The problem is when you attempt to fix it, and end up making it worse.

"I can't wait for my eyes to get used to the new layout."
Yes, I can't wait for my eyes to Change their [redacted]ing field of view.

"but I suppose we should be grateful that the Spiral Order has actually been making technological advances and are willing to share them."
"Advances." Ok.

"Let's start with the good things about this update."
Many of us did. Sadly, that list is a lot shorter than the list of bad things.

" I'm not necessarily averse to change – I want to accept it as much as possible."
Change is good. Change for the worse is bad.

I dislike the new UI, but I suppose something different every so often makes the game interesting. :P

By dealing injustice, you increase someone else's anger, which brings in more injustice that increases your own anger.

The point is that, while I appreciate OP's attempt to remove that rage blindfold of ours. I'm not sure if he realizes the causes and effects that have been going on, and how all of us have been caught in a spiral of injustice created, way before this 2nd Anniversary patch.

I've been playing since 3 months after this game was released, so I am aware of this much exaggerated "spiral of injustice". I bet you have seen me post before, have you not?

You realize that the developers have done great things in the past as well?

If all you can see is the bad, and you are unable to see past it, then maybe you should try to remove the rage blindfold rather than laugh at my "attempt".

I know this update wasn't all bad. Look, I even made a list of the good things in My first post about this.

Good things:
-Asthetic of buttons/menus
-Sliding menus
-monsters on minimap
-Particle effects/hit markers
-Reason to go in the arcade
-ZOOM :D

And either way, it's more like rage-tinted sunglasses than a blindfold.

@Klip - Good thing they updated the map to show monsters, would take forever to find mini cakes in that frosting without it :l

I agree, you sound like you are posting normal atm.

If you post at the calmness you are now at, your posts will be easier to read, more fact-based, and likelier to be taken into consideration by the developers. Especially due to less strongs and capitalization.

Yeah, If I had to ever glance

Yeah, If I had to ever glance at the upper left portion of my screen, I bet I would scream as well. Like seriously, I would just lose it. Avoid staring at my health while fighting to reduce tunnel vision? What? No, I have to see it.

Everything looks so freaking boxy. The rounded rectangles of the old UI gave it a more finished look, whereas the rectangular interfaces look so... off-putting.

"Avoid staring at my health while fighting to reduce tunnel vision?"

If I look away from my character long enough to see exactly how much health I have left, I open myself up to being hit. Tunnel vision is not a problem here since you can always look around when you aren't in immediate danger. The problem is when you are in immediate danger, it is essential to your survival that you have all your vital information in a clearly visible location. And not getting in the way, like the weapon switch popup UI now does.

And in a game where focus on your immediate surroundings is so important, is tunnel vision even bad?

Well I used to have to adjust a lot but now that some time has passed I'm getting rather used to the fellow.

Still, one amazing aspect of TF2 is that you can make or get any custom HUD you want.

Go Klipik!

I just wanted to let u know, I support Klipik's posts among others trying to show the bad side of this update and trying to put it as reasonably and convincingly as possible.

Also I have to say idk wats going on in ur head Rawrcake.. there is no good side to this update, though there were a couple of good things about this update, the majority of it was bad.. NOT to mention the amount of TIME the dev team might have wasted to put forth this unnecessary, and annoying to use, new UI. The end-gamers are stacking up while all the updates are nowadays are the repeat of last years and just recolored costumes.. we need to be satisfied.. I come back after a 6 month break and see that my friend list is filled with inactives.. so many of the endgamers have had enough with this game but I love this game too much and cry everytime I get excited for a new update and end up being bitterly disappointed.

The GMs promise us that things will get better but there is no evidence... why are all the monsters being nerfed.. why mess with the wonderful old UI (especially so compared to this new one), why release new promos every month then decide to not bring out anything NEW for the 2nd anniversary of Spiral Knights, seeing how many endgamers might have piled up till now. I would really have liked something cool to show off, like a completely new never before thought of promos, something that would breathe life into this game again. But what do I see? The cool Sprinkle aura and the cute prismatic blow outs and party hats have been smashed into the ground in terms of rarity...

The list goes on and on.. I think the best thing to do after seeing this worthless UI update is to ASK the forum about their NEEDS and ideas before wasting so much time bringing out something completely worthless.. I REALLY hoped this UI update was a 2 day late April fools joke.. but the time waste doing this was still to be considered.. (Also I understand that this might be due to the additions to the screen that the battle pets might bring.. still I dont like this atleast for LD take it out pls..)
