Top 10 best shields
4) Swiftstrike (one word) buckler
6) Omega SHELL
You miss something- Dread Skelly shield.
THE shields are Grey owlite,Dread skelly and Royal jelly shield. They have less normal defence and more elemental/shadow/piercing defence + 2 status resistanses.Perfectly suited for T3, so 1) are Grey Owl., D. Skelly and R.J shield.
BTS is popular because of its sword dmg bonus, gunners and bombers rarely use it.
CoA is better than Dread skelly (vs enemies dealing shadow damage) only in T1 and T2, and in FSC (of course).More shadow /"specific"/ defence is better in T3.
Swiftstrike is weak (as a SHIELD).
There is no 'best' shield. If I was to take the grey owlite shield into perhaps a poison themed fiend level, it would barely last 5 seconds. The same goes for the barbarous thorn shield. However if I was to bring a Dread Skelly (or CoA) it would last much longer. The same thing applies to bringing a CoA to a freeze themed construct level. The only shield that isn't strictly situational is the Omega shell, because of it's extra health.
@Troupe-Forums, You are right when you say defense types are situational, but the Omega Shell isn't the only non-situational shield. Swiftstrike and Scarlet both also provide universal bonuses. You could also say that the Barbarous Thorn Shield is also non-situational if you only used swords. Shields also (supposedly) have different bump strengths, although it's not known what exactly determines bump strength.
The omega was just the first shield to come to mind because I was talking about defences
What is this list based on? Have you even tried them, Hadi? Ironmight is a much better choice than Dragon Scale and Royal Jelly for anything but piercing projectiles, against which it's only a little bit worse. Ironmight is also at least equal with Volcanic Plate against any attacks that are not fire-based. Enemies can come in five status-variants (including non-status/stun), but only with four damage types. One of those damage types are normal.
Both shields protect against stun and normal. Ironmight is better against 33% more enemies while Volcanic is better against 25% more enemies. In overall terms, Ironmight is better.
Crest of Almire is also generally a better shield than Gray Owlite. Owlite has more specialised defence and as such is a lot more situational than Crest, which can be brought anywhere and always have decent defence against melee attacks. They both protect against fire and shock and are equal in that regard. Both shields protect well against their respective intended targets (Crest protects as wll against zombie swipes as Owlite protects against retrode swipes), but Crest will protect better against a retrode swipe than Owlite would protect against a zombie swipe.
For this reason, I should think Crest is better. That being said, Owlite is more helpful against elemental projectiles than Crest is against shadow projectiles. If that's an important criteria, why isn't Dread Skelly higher on the list? Why isn't Dread Skelly at the very top instead of Owlite? End-game has a lot of shadow damage going for it.
I mean most T3 things. FSC, UFSC, UGWW, GitM, LoA, HoI and the recurring kat event all have enemies dealing shadow damage.
Grey Owlite is so high on the list because stage hazards, theres like 7 stage hazards that deals elemental damage (fire/freeze/poison/shock floor, sprinkles, shadow fire and explosive blocks), 3 piercing stage hazard (spikes, yellow sprinkle and posison vines) and 1 shadow dealing hazard (shadow sprinkle)
Not to mention that Vanaduke is 70% elemental, 20% shadow and 10% normal
Vanaduke doesn't do any shadow damage. He does, however, do a lot of normal damage. I don't know where you're getting your numbers from...
His minions does shadow damage, I should have typed "Vanaduke fight" my fault.
im just wondering what are ufsc, ugww, gitm, loa, and hol????
Ultimate Firestorm Citadel, Ultimate Gloaming Wildwoods, Ghosts in the Machine and Heart of Ice
Practically, there are only thirteen shields to choose from. I question the usefulness of a top ten list.
But to add to the discussion, I use skelly more than crest because of Heart of Ice.
