I seem to struggle with freeze traps and freeze bullets\needles. If I get in a freeze trap or stuck by a freeze bullet and no one is around to break the ice or I have no remedies, I almost always am stuck until I die - either by freeze damage or freeze and bullets. I cannot even make progress out of the freeze danger.
What am I missing in how to escape a freeze trap?
Or is this always the case, a permanent freeze unless broken by someone, remedy, or a lot of resist? I use wolver top and bottoms.

This kind of freeze trapping can happen, especially when you're solo. Basically, you want to take freeze threats very seriously. Freeze is not a joke of a status. Try to have remedies on hand. Try to play in a party. Good luck.

Freeze
Craft a grey owlite shield and get freeze resist trinkets. One way to avoid freeze bullets (or any other projectile) is to "read" bullets. Look for on opening in between the bullets. And "tanking" is not exactly a good idea let your shield recharge.

For one grey owlite has no freeze ressist.
If you truly hate freeze make go for skolver/bombastic/skelly also consider a heater shield but really the beast armor is it not hitting you.

Elemental vs. status
So wait there is an actual difference? I thought if you use a elemental shield the shield would take less damage from an elemental attack. Or have I got my info mixed up?

Well, the trap itself deals elemental. It would make a small difference, but status is important too.
Owlite is better than a random pierce/shadow shield but not as good as Heater for this purpose.

Raising your shield. Enemies can break ice for you, so raising your shield before an enemy attack while frozen should help. I'm not sure if this works in traps, though.

It does, except the (weirdly glitched) ATH traps.
Why do I say weirdly glitched? A friend of mine walked into them with double Max! Freeze resists and only got frozen for 2 seconds less than usual (3 instead of 5 seconds), whereas usually this is enough to walk through freeze traps undeterred. Also, the Freeze traps in the ATH are the only ones you can't break the Freeze status with your own bombs.

Ok, thanks. So no way to get out of them yourself without resists or good timing, got it. I use 2* wolver cap and coat which has some freeze but not a ton. I try to get hit in order to break the freeze but if I remember correctly if the hit is something that causes freeze it just refreezes you (bullet\spikes\trap). Shield eventually breaks while no progression is made. I thought there was an invicible delay when hit or something but I know it does not always apply to traps (if at all).

What you do is you raise your shield. If you're frozen by a trap, this will not refresh the Freeze timer, allowing you to escape earlier; if you're frozen by a bullet, that hit will break your freeze without doing damage to you.

unless you were enough of a nincompoop to get your shield broken, that is.

Alright. If you have a few friends with you,ask them to attack you so the ice can go away. Trust me,it works!
You should wear freeze resistant armor. What are you using? because even with neutral armor, it's not so severe.
