Im not new just havent been on in a while when crafting lets 4 star gear does the gear have to be exatly level 5 or can it be above that because i think i recalled when i played a while ago it had be the exact level.
Just out of curiosity for crafting
Hey, wanted to ask on how to upgrade your starter weapon and shield. I already went to wiki (crafting) but i never found help on an example of crafting (in-action) so, if anyone could help me, please do so, and let me know how to upgrade (in stars) my sword Thanks
What weapon and shield do you want to upgrade? Some of them cannot be upgraded. To learn more about a particular item, look that item up on the wiki, and inspect its alchemy tree.
In particular, none (or almost none) of the 0-star items can be upgraded, and few of the 1-star items can be upgraded. Basically, the game really starts when you get 2-star items.
@ Bopp
I meant the begginer i tems the proto shield and proto sword. Can they be upgraded? (thanks for responding)
Like Bopp said, the game starts working out when you're equipped with 2* or more gears/weapons.

Go to the wiki, and search for Proto Shield. You will see that its alchemy path doesn't go past 0 stars. It cannot be upgraded. You can use the same process to learn about the upgrades for any weapon or armor. Good luck.
Thanks alot Bopp. You were very helpful. thanks to you too Sky-Lightning.
I was wondering, If i were to get a chroma mask (NEW). and it is leveled up (lvl3), would it ,when i make it to a salamander mask, stay level 3 or reset to 1??
Again, this is a question answered on the wiki page "Crafting", in the section "Upgrading". Here, I'll even give you a direct link: http://wiki.spiralknights.com/Crafting#Upgrading.
I've question about UV bonus defence No.16 in here ......
Yes, I saw that question in your thread. The question is confusing, and I probably don't know the answer anyway, and it might even be a bug. I don't know a lot about how 2-star and 3-star items compare; I think about only 5-star items. Good luck.
Read the wiki page "Crafting", and in particular the section "Upgrading".
No, I does not need to be level 5 exactly. There has been no change to this rule since April 2011.
