Hey everyone. I'm working on getting my first set of 5* gear. I typically solo the majority of missions, but have no issues joining parties if they are doing what I am. I like shock effects to help me stay alive.

I play a hybrid build using guns about 60% of the time. In general i tend to gun to break up and weaken clusters of enemies, then sword in for the kill. I'd like to make an all-purpose set to help me get through missions, and as a starting point for future gear.

My thoughts:
Divine veil and skolver coat (basic build)
Grey owlite shield
Polaris (or shock alchem?)
Nightblade? Flourish? Leviathan?

Please feel free to offer any and all comments that you think could help. I am a little stuck on them sword gun combo.

Chaos cloak + Divine Veil is what I'd personally go with.. don't make polaris. It's extra expensive, and alchemers are just as good as it, if not better, in most situations provided that you can use them.

I'd actually go with leviathan if I were you, and here's why- you use guns most of the time, so you should diversify those, and save on crafting a cheaper sword, which would be leviathan. It would give you good coverage as it is normal, and isn't terrible like iron slug or any of that. If you don't get it, you'll have to craft several different swords to make your loadout work in such a way that you can use both of your weapons against things.

good so far

Your set works very well so far.

Gun: Polaris has its uses --- in particular, when you want to control a room using knockback --- but I would recommend Storm Driver (or Nova Driver) over Polaris for general solo or party play.

Sword: Any of those swords would work, but I recommend a piercing sword first, for several reasons. Fiends are the nastiest monsters (although they're being nerfed apparently). The piercing guns are little hard to use against fiends. Piercing swords also work pretty well against gremlins. After a piercing sword, I would recommend Nightblade/Acheron. Only consider a normal sword if you want to be able to use your sword on everything; and among normal swords, Leviathan is the obvious choice (although the others are fun). Eventually you will find yourself doing Firestorm Citadel a lot, and then you might want an elemental sword, even if you carry it with your elemental gun.

Armor: Divine Veil with Skolver Coat and Grey Owlite shield is a classic combination. If you really use guns heavily, then consider getting some Shadowsun armor instead. Do you have access to Operation Crimson Hammer? Then consider Perfect Mask of Seerus too.

Chaos Cloak
Chaos Cowl
Swiftstrike Buckler
Biohazard/Neutralizer
Divine Avenger/Sudaruska

Using the catalyzer, you herd enemies in a group. Tag the group a bunch and detonate. The enemies will now be spread around and severely weakened, if not dead. If you chose the Biohazard/Divine route, enemies will also be poisoned and unable to heal. The poison will also make enemies do less damage to you. If you chose the Neutralizer Route, they'll just be lacking a ton of health. Run around and mop up the smaller clusters with your heavy sword. Fun for the whole family!

Heavy swords are all-around excellent. It's like a bomb and a sword in one weapon, with all the benefits of both. The Catalyzer is mostly there for the fun factor, but I can guarantee that no other gun will break up clusters of enemies quite as violently as Catalyzers can. Chaos works with any weapon and as such is an excellent starting point. You can also do as Fehzor says and make one of the pieces Divine Veil instead, which is a bit more defensive.

Someone will point out that Catalyzers see very little use, but since you're a solo guy that shouldn't bother you. Catalyzers require teammates that cooperate with you and your weaponry, a rare quality in teammates. When you're solo, it's all good.
