Since not all people read the Test forums I'm posting this here

A quote by Nick:

> "Also, regarding crowns not appearing on the HUD at all times, we've come to believe that displaying currencies on the HUD creates a very linear mindset regarding advancement within the game. So, currencies now show up when you need them or are viewable at all times within the arsenal, along with the rest of your possessions."

So, do you guys think that hiding the elephant under the rug created another way of advancing the game or are we stuck with pretty much the same things while having vital information hidden for no reason?

This game has currencies? Is that what they're talking about when they say "energy"? What? I didn't see it. And why are these weird coin things flying into me? They aren't doing some kind of non-represented damage to my soul or weakening me any, are they?

As I said on the testing forums-

"Isn't advancement pretty much linear unless you buy CE though?

I mean, you beat the missions up to a hall of heroes, and then get stuck. I asked people what it was like to get stuck behind the hall of heroes, and that was what was keeping most of them there- that they got stuck and had to grind for crowns (to turn into CE) to get past the wall. This indicates to me that the only real measure of progression in the game is in fact linearly crowns. It's pretty much always been that way- I had to grind to get my stuff in the beginning, before I had enough to just craft stuff and have a good time messing around.

I somehow doubt that not telling people how much money they have is going to make it so that they don't focus on it."

And I linked to this thread that I made a while back as a reference- http://forums.spiralknights.com/en/node/76554

It wasn't hiding the elephant under the rug so much as putting this kind of rug on the elephant. You don't realize it's an elephant until the instant you see it coming at you. Which was the first time you were introduced to either the rug or the elephant.

I think it was kind of aimed

I think it was kind of aimed at saying your personal goals with the game could be:

- Earn money, upgrade gear, and advance through the game (this is the one that uses money)
- Complete missions and aim to be the highest rank! (we'll pretend this isn't money-gated at every HoH)
- Style your knight with accessories! (cheap accessories only)
- Derive intense enjoyment by delving into the T2 Clockworks using your favorite weapons and armor! (because RPGs are filled to the brim with players who don't want to upgrade to better gear)
- Play Lockdown! (in T2, using guides to tell you what gear to choose, and with the UVs you got off amazing crafting luck, obviously)
- Immerse yourself in the game's lore! (just wait, there is lore planned for future updates)
- Write fanfics!

Isn't advancement, by

Isn't advancement, by definition, somewhat linear? And regardless, by hiding the one thing that you can't do a single thing without, isn't that kind of stopping any advancement?

Am I the only one who envisioned an elephant covered by an insignificant handkerchief of a rug? Not to say the rug's not eye-bleedingly noticeable...

At any rate, it's definitely the latter; we need money - real or virtual - to get CE, in order to advance, with more virtual money as well. Putting up a barrier like this is bound to cause all kinds of problems long term.

I'm not sure why they did this, but Nick's "explanation" doesn't give any answers.

And before I click "Save", I read this:

So, currencies now show up when you need them or are viewable at all times within the arsenal, along with the rest of your possessions.

Under that reasoning, shouldn't Energy be viewable at all times in the Clockworks, missions or Arcade?

@gravelord: no.

in the clockworks, energy is displayed near gates and on the elevator, when you are about to use it, ie when you need it.

@Thunder
Klip mentioned in some other thread that the fact the energy pops up only when the elevator is about to go down is a problem. If a player doesn't have enough energy to go down the elevator, there's no way to tab them at that point. Plus there's no clear visual marker for if they needed the energy either like the old UI's elevator tab markers.
In fact the elevator tab markers are completely absent! If you're one of the nice people who tabs others, you have no indication that they are tabbed by you. No color change, icon change, nothing!

As for the topic on hand, I don't think I can add anything that hasn't been said here or elsewhere. The ball's in OOO's court right now. They can either admit to making a mistake and fixing a few things, or keep trying to convince us that these are "good" ideas.
