speaking of impractical necessities...

As I have walk around haven, I overhear fellow knights discussing the existence of overlay armors, or, as their called on the street, "costume armor". the reasoning behind this wondrous waste of resources and time can be traced back to the hero theory developed by Ponsumius back in the steel times. the Theory being that if People see themselves as individual heroes, they are more likely to act like them too. Likewise, If they all dressed as the same cobalt wielding "clones", they'd be less likely to take chances and think outside the box, relying on a commanding officer to give them orders. As such, the regular chain-of-command was taken apart and put back together, with knights being encouraged to think for themselves and take things on head-first.

This mindset created the overlay armors, Thin, translucent disks that reflect light to whatever the user wishes. These are not without fault, as the User must have an actual armor or helm to obtain the light/color code from. these disks are very convincing, fooling almost every sort of visual monitoring device, so the naked eye would stand no chance to break the deception, which would explain all those plate armor wearers walking around with scale suits.

AS for the existence of costume armors, Some bright entrepreneur at Three Ovals came up with "Costume Cards" flat little squares that contain all sorts of different color codes, some of which do not exist! Said person is now obscenely rich, as many people with more crowns than they can carry just throw money at this man, all just for a measly "Costume Card".

These disks are very versatile, being able to morph light and color to any sort of shape, but anything beyond an arms length away becomes heavily distorted and static-y, and certain frequencies and lights can render them useless. king Krogmo is the only one that has mastered the creation of the exposing light, "For the good of fair game!" he claims. Not many believe him..

Ok, so I've grown to taking a look at the monitor on the elevators to judge what challenge will arise next, and I can say without doubt, I run at the sight of a purple building when delving alone. Those Devilites have a deathwarrent out on me or something... couldn't have been that time I stole some of their forbidden fruit was it? Anyway, I saw something that interested me, the same building symbol, but green, naturally I assumed it would just be another devilite area. When I arrived at the bottom however, what met my gaze was sickening, literally. Tall dilapidated buildings covered with thousands of thorns dripping with poison. Barricades and piles of bone littered the ground, obviously some plague struck this place long ago.

What to call it... Ailment Avenue? Sick Street? I think I'll go with Disease Drive for now.

Luckily for me, the only things that attempted to kill me were plagued skeletons and the occasional slime, my frozen blade easily tore them asunder. The only problem I faced were these strange rocks with what looks like a face carved in them, for every skeleton that fell apart, this strange totem made to pull them back together, but stray too far, and the skeletons stayed dead... re-dead?

Its a sight to behold, and I'd suggest that any of you that see this that can't fight against the undead exceptionally well, grab a different weapon, it'll be a bumpy ride.

Well, on to the next depth, hopefully I'll get past Emberlight soon...

While this isn't an expedition log, I'd like to make note of a curious occurrence within the Clockworks. The minerals we mine to power the arcade... to mine minerals... *cough* eh... have a very interesting crystalline structure, which... all seem to be the same, they all naturally form in stab-y spires of death to falling Knights, but when broken down, they have four curiously stable forms, and appear to be layered, if the outer shell of these carryable forms is flawed or damaged in any way, it will immediately lose stability and break down into its lesser tier forming worthless shards of the material, not even worth alchemizing with.

The most easily identifying feature of these smaller crystals is the number of spikes that appear on top, from one spike, to three, ususally, the more spikes the better. However, the less commonly identified fourth tier of crystal, so rare because of its fragile structure requires the whole crystal to be perfect and free of impurities, this crystal still has only 3 spikes, and can only be identified in comparison reliably, the spikes are usually just more steep than the third form, but nonetheless, they yield quite the payload and are much sought after.

Of course however, if you were a Geoknight, you would have known this alreay.

Expedition Log 003

My first delving into the depths of thee third tier of the clockworks was somewhat... harrowing, the larger enemies, the bigger punches... one glancing blow from a robotic ent and my reserves were almost depleted! Spookats are quite deep toned, wolvers are quite annoying... it's as if I stepped into a new realm...

on another note, I've encountered a strange creature I have never heard tell of, some blue gelatinous mass that looks like a slime, but instead of the cores you usually see, it had a skull

I've discovered a burning citadel that others before me have described to me... smells like someone hasn't bathed in a while, I think I'll have a quick look down there before I pop back out

*loud static* MOTHER OF---*fffzt* SSHHHH-*Fffzt* *cough* heh... elevators... nrgh.

Is this thing on? *static* ugh... *cough* well.. after a quick jaunt into the burning ruins... and a warm reception by the resident ruler Vanaduke I find myself limping to an elevator with a barely functioning, next to derelict exoform... I was the only one to make it out of that pit alive, he crushed the teammates I found already exploring its depths one by one... his mace caught me with an uppercut and knocked me out of the room... I can't stop here... I'll come back for them, those poor adventurous sods.... *cough* I hope they're still alive when I reach them...

hooraay... elevators... *cough* nrgh... hope HQ can patch me up...

Nothing. Nothing new in months of wondering through this demon machine. Used to be that new horrors came out from every corner. But now, the mysteries of the Clockworks lay silent. Least I've had time to go over the old logs.

After reviewing Owao's report, I now know what happened to the guardian shield I requisitioned months ago and why it never arrived. It would've been extremely helpful while fending off the swarm. This "arena" is a gross misappropriation of the Order's wargear. That's what happens when your head quartermaster is killed, I suppose. Standards grow lax.

While we're on the subject, the Immortal-class "Guardian" shield is the most powerful personnel defense tool our Order possesses. Utilizing the kind of tech we use to shield our star cruisers and crafted only in the great starforges at the very heart of our kingdom, these shields utilize an incredibly rare alloy which acts as the core of the shield-field. But I'm getting a bit ahead of myself. I don't believe I really fleshed out *how* our shielding tech works before. Rather, I just explained what it *did*. So let's remedy that.

As could be guessed from the name, our shield modules are rather modular. All fields use the same base tech, but the strength of a given shield-field, and what it defends against, is determined by whatever is used at the core of the shield assembly. For example, the Barbarous Thorn model I currently have uses draconic scales. It protects rather well against piercing sources, but not much else. The starcore iron used in Immortal-class shields protects extremely well against everything we know of.

Back on topic. Nothing short of heavy bombardment can crack the Immortal when set to singular protection or arranged in ship shielding arrays. Since this is overkill and a complete waste of resources on anything that is not a starship or armoured platform, this model has been outfitted to actually project the field out further to protect entire squads. This severely weakens the shield the farther you cast the field, but given it's insane strength, the shield is still quite formidable. As an added bonus, since this thing requires so much power, the ambient energy within the field can be used to keep your repair matrix on at all times (albeit at a severely limited capacity).

Since starcore iron is impossible to procure or shape outside of our home systems, Immortal cores are of the utmost priority to resecure if lost. As I understand, we recently had a guardian showing signs of PTSD go missing... I wonder how that turned out.

You find a battered datapad in front of the exit elevator.

Entry 1
I wonder if I have ever projected the full extent of my hate for the ethereal enemies we call Phantoms. Glancing at my log history I see I have not dedicated a single log to doing so! Not even one! So let this suffice.

I HATE THEM! I HATE THEM! I HATE THEM! I HATE THEM! I HATE THEM! I HATE THEM! I HATE THEM! I HATE THEM! I HATE THEM! I HATE THEM! I HATE THEM! I HATE THEM! I HATE THEM! I HATE THEM! I HATE THEM! I HATE THEM! I HATE THEM! I HATE THEM! I HATE THEM! I HATE THEM! I HATE THEM! I HATE THEM! I HATE THEM! I HATE THEM! I HATE THEM! I HATE THEM! I HATE THEM! I HATE THEM! I HATE THEM! I HATE THEM! I HATE THEM!

*This continues for quite some time*

Entry 2
I have wandered around this place and I have completely eliminated all zombies. The phantoms on the other hand...

Entry 3
It seems as though my efforts have warded off the phantoms, for now. I think this particular patch of ground shall be suitable for me to set up my base camp. Lets see, what to use? Sensor? Yes. Console? Duh! Mat and sleeping bag? Yes. Couple of Owilite candles and Embers? Might hold onto those.
Well! Might as well get down to what I'm here for.

Entry 4 through 6
Classified.

Entry 7
Damn it! Damn it straight to the Core!

Those phantoms swarmed the campsite and destroyed everything! Everything! Even the sleeping bags!

*sigh*

At least I saved all the data I procured, so nothing was truly lost. Of course I have no way to exit this place now. I really should have kept the EXIT system in my datapad. Hoisted by my own petard indeed! And I don't believe that I am in a condition suitable to be battling phantoms.
I hope I still remember my kiting training.

Entry 8 though ?
Corrupted.

Finally!
*
I have done it! I have found it! After all these hours - Days? Years? Weeks? - running from the Phantoms, hiding in the graves of my enemies, I have done it! I have seen with my own eyes what these "Soul Jellys" are!

I was lying on top of a grave, hoping the resurrected zombies would ignore my presence, when a Soul Jelly just passed by. Thanks to whatever god of luck that chose to smile down upon me that day, my Datapad was automatically set to scanning mode and did so when it go into range. I had completed my order, to prove that Soul Jellys could be found within Graveyards. Now it was time to get the hell out of here. The exit elevator was only a few steps away, if I ran fast enough I might've been able get to it before the Jelly, or something worse attacked me. My wounds still hurt. They hurt so much.

But you must still understand, you must understand what these "Jellies" truly are.

As I clambered out with my datapad in hand, the soul jelly's normally azure coloration changed to a menacing purple. The skull within changed in colour too. And grew a jet-black horn.
As I stood entranced, the skull began to rise out of the jelly until the skull was hovering at my eye-level. As I continued to stare into its suddenly azure spirals of eyes, the jelly rose up to meet the floating skull, changing along the way. Becoming more solid, changing in hue to dark purple, shaping itself into the skull's armour. And when the Phantom had been born, for what else could I have observed, a wickedly curved blade burst forth from his hand in a blaze of darkfire and impaled me in the chest.

And that is why you have found my datapad, battered but hopefully not broken, in front of this elevator.

But listen close and listen well fellow knights. This information must reach Spiral HQ! But I am too wounded, too dead, to deliver it myself. And so that is why I leave it here. In the hope that some other squad of Knights may traverse this Graveyard, find my recording, and deliver it.

Oh, and tell Biotech Hans that he was wrong and he may now insert his shards where the sun don't shine. He'll know who its from.

Strange. This elevator looks so appealing. Just a step onto its grille and I no longer have to do anything. Maybe there's some Knights waiting for me? Hehe. Even gremlins would be welcome at this point.

This is-

*The recording skips, stutters and finally breaks. It seems as though the damage taken was too much for it. As you smack it about to make sure that is the case, a hideous laughter and screech comes emanates from behind you. The Phantoms are coming. You should leave.*

Loremaster's Log; Pt20

Months and months of nothing, and then... Confusion! Hysteria! Run around screaming! Many mechanics of how our world works has suddenly changed! What happened?

'Tis simple. Our reality has collapsed into a parallel one that worked differently than ours. Now they have merged together. Probably a trick of this demon machine-world. Likely tried to cast us all into null-space but screwed up. All the more reason to be wary of it if it can screw with the very fabric of reality.

Thankfully, rather than having our heads explode when we were merged with our alternate dimension counterparts, we merely adapted their memories and experiences into our own. Or maybe they adapted ours. Either way, two are one now and we don't have to learn anything new now. It's just highly confusing while our minds sort out everything.

Command is, of course, trying to keep this quiet so our junior knights don't panic. Those in cryostasis would have no problem assimilating their new memories, so they'll probably forget how our reality used to work and not have to deal with those memories knocking about.

~*~*~*~

Anyway, I've intercepted some transmissions from a few fellow knights who are having issues assimilating the memories about how our resurrection function works. Used to work. Now works. I'm not sure.

Anyway, as you all know, our exosuits use a tremendous amount of energy to function. This energy is drawn from dark fusion reactors built into our suits. What powers the fusion reactors, you ask? Why, life force, of course! They're not dark for nothing!

Now, a certain amount of lifeforce is needed to keep the reaction going in the reactor. Once stable, the reactor kicks entropy in the teeth and produces infinite power at a constant rate. However, if you try to draw too much power out of the reactor at once (such as taking too much damage when your primary shield is offline), you begin to destabilize it. This is why your shield stops functioning if you let it absorb too much punishment and why you have to "charge up" special attacks and bombs; it's to prevent the reactor from overloading. However, if you do manage to overload it, you suit kills the reactor before it can go critical. This, of course, sends your suit offline and ceases all (non-essential) function, leaving you as a useless lump on the ground. All you'll have is life support and emergency communications. Those are powered by a secondary power source.

Now, your suits have an emergency resurrection function that can restart the reactor using your own lifeforce. I know what you're gonna say, "Isn't that gonna slowly kill me? Blah blah blah worry." Not if you don't abuse the thing, and even if you wanted to, our engineers have made it so you can't, so don't try. A knight can usually take the toll of one resurrection before having to rest. Thankfully, since the elevators between geospheres take so long to take us to the next one, we can use that time to recharge if we need to.

"But what if I kill the reactor again because I'm super clumsy?" I hear others say. Well, you're in luck. You can use the souls of other things to restart your reactor instead! Commonly called Sparks of Life, these are concentrations of lifeforce from many lesser beings condensed into an item we can carry around. These things are fairly difficult to produce and rather rare to find in the wilds, so use sparingly.

Also note that if you've only destabilized your reactor but not put it into overload, you can stabilize it with the lingering lifeforce of your enemies. Your HUD visor should display these pools of life as little hearts lying on the ground. Make sure you suck them up quickly, since they dissipate and can't be carried.

I hope this helped!
