Hi guys, I was just wondering, for FSC is Elemental defence (such as the grey feather set) or is Shadow defense (Snarb or Dread Skelly Set) better? Before on my first few runs, I used my sinister skelly sheild as a defense, since there are alot of zombies, but when I have gained other gear like my Wise owlite sheild I wield that instead..... I notice alot of people like to wear the divine set or grey feather set (or rarely the chaos set) while little wear the dread skelly set, leading me to believe that elemental defense is better..... But I keep wondering if shadow is better because the only enemies that I remember inflict elemental are Red rovers and possibly fire vents...... While there are hordes of shadow inflicting slags roaming the citadel..... Normal also seems like another resort because of trojans and vanaduke's attacks, but I thought I didnt need cobalt armor or the defender so i sold them (XD yeah i know, bad choice).
FSC: Shadow or Elemental
And the most annoying thing about them hitting you, is that they often set you on fire (elemental damage).
Fire deals raw damage, not elemental. Elemental defense protects against the initial damage you take when you lag into traps, but won't reduce how much you take afterwards if you get lit up.
People use elemental defense since shadow fire and fire vents deal elemental on first contact, and a lot of the time you'll be running into those.
Shadow defense armor is a good idea sometimes since Trojans can hit you pretty hard, and zombie leaps strike from unexpected places sometimes.
Elemental Armor with a Shadow Shield is a good idea though.
@ Reto- Thanks for the armor feedback I guess you bring a point....
@ Orb- Very true....
@Hexyle-A problem is that I dont really have my sheild up all the time when I'm playing so.....
Well, run through FSC with Azure Guardian or some other non-shadow and non-elemental armor, and see what kills/damages you the most. That would probably be a much more practical way to discover what armor suits you best.
As has already been stated, Shadow is good if you get hit by Zombies a lot (but Zombies are very easy now), Elemental is good for just about everything else in FSC. What you really want in my opinion is Fire resist over any other defense, due to almost everything in there (including the traps) setting you on fire... unless of course you are going for certain bonuses.
Fire resist effects how long you are on fire, how much damage you take from it, and chance of being caught on fire. Your defense has zero control over the damage you take from Fire. Fire does damage about every 2 second, and you can block half of the damage if you shield when you get hit with the tick of damage.
Full Divine set (no Normal, has Ele defense, standard Fire resist) - about 1 bar per tick, 4 seconds. Total of 2 bars.
Full Vog set (Normal/Ele defense, standard Fire resist) - about 1 bar per tick, 4 seconds. Total of 2 bars.
Full Bombastic set (Normal/Ele defense, no Fire resist) - about 2 bars per tick, 6 seconds. Total of 6 bars.
and just for giggles
Full Chaos set (Normal/Ele defense, negative VH Fire resist) - about 2.5 bars per tick, 8 seconds. Total of 10 bars.
All numbers are from D24 of FSC, from Shadowfire.

obviously get defense against what attacks u the most
wheels, blast cubes, rocket pup, vana mace do normal dmg
fire traps, fire thingys, fire balls deal elemental dmg
spike traps n i think oilys too deal pierce dmg
zombos and i think horses too deal shadow dmg
check wiki for dmg types or ur health pip colors flying from ur knight, when he gets hit
if i went to fsc(if i ever go into clockworks again not heating my entire gear), i would try to figure, what ill most likely lag into
hi.
after many fsc runs, i realized the only real challenge there is fight with vanaduke.
and vanaduke is much more easy with vog cub set so i advice elemental and fire defense (vog cub and owlite shield).
If you want to be next to immune to most of Vanaduke's attacks, I recommend going in with a full set of Volcanic Plate. :3
== Why shadow ==
Shadow obviously gives you protection against pretty much everything that lives (and dies) in FSC. Also, the Snarbo set gives you a DMG VH bonus on your swords, which I find great.
== Why elemental ==
To be honest, slags rarely hit you, unless you try hard to get hit. And the most annoying thing about them hitting you, is that they often set you on fire (elemental damage). With a Vog set, which also gives you an ASI VH bonus, that rarely happens. Also, Vana deals elemental+normal damage with a change of fire. Vog set gives you great protection against all these factors.
== Conclusions ==
Personally, I love to do FSC+Vana with half Chaos (mine has shadow+piercing max) and half Vog (elemental high). I love it as a set, as it's balanced (CTR Med+DMG Med+ASI Med+Fire Protection Med). Of course, sometimes I catch fire, but it doesn't happen as often as you might think.
So, my say is Elemental all the way.
P.S. Use the Barbarous Thorn Shield. DMG Med bonus is great!
