You know, the one that was in the Preview Event?

I'm curious to hear why people hate it or against it so much. Why is that? And please don't base your answers off Magnus' Super Brawl PvP videos if you have already seen them; He had the gear that anyone could have, and the type of gameplay style, that made him quite a force to be reckoned with. However, I don't want to hear this nonsense about One-Hit-KOs (OHKO's) because Recons in lockdown can just about do the same or similar. I'm sure Three Rings has developed a form of damage reduction, something I objectively observe in lockdown, which doesn't balance the way the weapons are, but balances how damage is given to avoid the OHKOs that you may see in Magnus' many videos.

I'm a type of player who likes to test his skills individually and not be on a team with several others. I also like to walk around freely and make use of my shield. Lockdown doesn't really have that much going for me other than the guardian shield, and truthfully, I would like to use my own shields that give me my own bonuses. Such as the Barbarous Thorn Shield, Scarlet Shield, Omega Shell (Purely for Defense), Swiftstrike Buckler for speed, and possibly others.

I also am observant of Lockdown matches from time to time that feature 1v1 battles. This seems reminiscent of how Super Brawl was, however making use of either the Striker Shield, Recon Cloak or Guardian Shield. Even still, if you want to 1v1 someone, you have to hope they're not on your team, otherwise you're waiting until the next match starts and potentially risking 200 crowns in the process.

Don't get me wrong though, I like Lockdown with a passion. I just wish that I could have a free-for-all with the gear you're currently equipped with.

So yeah, why the hate, or dislike for Super Brawl? I don't want to see responses pertaining to someone not liking it without giving a reason why OR responses pertaining to OHKOs because I'm sure this situation has been well observed by Three Rings and you, the knights.

This was pre-hammer, pre-polaris, even pre flourish. And pre-reliable-brandish-charges. There are no classes like Lockdown has to counteract this, so you'd end up with crowd control spam all over the screen 100% of the time unless everyone agrees otherwise. But then, you could have everyone in LD play as guardian and get the same effect.

You are experiencing a PICNIC ERROR!

As a beta player, it wasn't perfect, to say the least. Here you're only option was the kill, not cap. If you are under-geared, you steer completely clear of this gamemode. In LD you can run and cap when you don't have the best stuff.

@Klipik: The only thing that a guardian class is lacking is the knockback with the addition of healing for as long as you have your shield up and not broken. To be frank, it's simply not the same as it previously was. I do appreciate your input though!

As an addendum, the guardian shield is not often destroyed in a single hit (Re: Probably a Sudaruska Charge w/ Max Damage Bonus) whereas the shields back then were variable with how much damage they could take. With the damage reduction that was applied in Lockdown since the beta PvP, I'm sure Three Rings would be able to apply the same, or similar damage reduction if they were to implement a version of PvP similar to what it was in the Preview Event. I feel this would engage knights in the thinking of what shield to use for the next match.

By the way, I'm looking for more responses. :)

EDIT:
@Autofire: Yes, it's true that this game mode didn't have much going for it other than to kill your opponents. But isn't that primarily a core aspect of PvP? In addition, I'm positive that this beta PvP mode had different tiers of PvP you can sign up for, much like lockdown has, with the addition to sign up for a higher Tier PvP (Than what you're currently equipped with), to give yourself a potential challenge.

Yeah I'm with Klipik on this. It's Lockdown except with less depth and even less viable weapons. Just have everyone agree to only play as Guardian or just unequip your modules altogether.

If they were to bring this thing back, it should be in the style of Blast Network, but for swords. Stock equipment for everyone.

How do you unequip modules?

Go to your player screen (where you can see yourself) and drag your striker/guardian/recon shield outside your player screen.

No OHKO responses? Psh, I do what I want

OHKO in brawl isn't the same as a recon OHKO in LD. It's more like a striker getting the power OHKO in LD. In LD you have to take the recons sword speed reduction and give enemies a warning before OHKOing them, and chances are they'll be a striker, giving them a sword bonus to whack you before you can finish lowering your shield, let alone starting your slowed down recon melee. Brawl? Anyone can come up from the bottom of your screen and high five you in the face for a one shot kill.

Nowadays the game would be crowd control guns and bombs for spam, high damage swords for OHKO, and low damage/high fire rate guns for quickly finishing off someone with enough #proheartpendants to survive a hit from a sword.

You'd have bombers walking around dropping out haze type bombs or hammering out polaris shots until they ran into another enemy doing the exact same thing. Once they do that "swoosh swoosh!" one or both of them die, dependant mainly on latency and possibly hearts. Any stragglers from these fights gets cleaned up anyway by someone with a sentenza, so even if you do manage to survive you'll die in a few seconds.

Personally, I think that it looks a lot better than the turbo wolver's party that we have right now.

I kind of feel like a "true Spiral Knights PVP mode" type thing would be this, but with influence from mobs for health.. Like, a player wearing full skolver should have about the same health as a wolver. And no invinciframes to mess things up...

@Fehzor

How would that kind of health figuring affect someone with, say, an Angelic-line...?

I mean you could say fiend health, which would seem more appropriate than any but.. I would think devilite far too low and trojan far too high...
Greaver?
Then of course there's the complication of what happens if an actual greaver set ever gets put in.

I dunno, I personally think having mob-influenced health values would be a bit of a rigmarole.

I'd love Super Brawl more than Lockdown to be honest, but Three Rings couldn't balance it. There has to be some way though.

How about making every weapon level one, and giving everyone fifty vitapods with no trinkets? Yeah... I don't know, but I would like to try it, but Cherub (or another GM. I'm pretty sure it was Cherub) said there was a lot of doubt in it coming back.

I never feel like a winner if the team wins.

@Spold, time it takes to die doesn't matter when you're getting spammed with polaris. If you can't get through the wall, it doesn't matter how much HP you have.

I don't think skolvers need a health buff. At the depth Lockdown is played, standard enemies have a bit more health than players.

Also, most enemies have the exact same amount of health. I don't see many devilite, trojan or lumber armours around.

Well

If I had a way of making all people who score 0 caps unable to play LD until they have played a total of 1 hour in Super Brawl, then I'd add this. Definitely. idc if it's unbalanced, all the clones deserve it if they treat LD as a massive sparring match.
