So guys myself and a few friends from Echo of Silence, One Knight Stand, and Mongrade (Sorry Rio if I spelt this wrong) have decided to create a podcast series based on 2 out of the three beta stages (Sadly project x players are not around playing Sk actively to our knowledge).

So we will focus on all the aspects of Sk back in the day and hopefully fill your head with some old sk knowledge.

So feel free to post any questions about Beta you have so we can answer these questions during our podcast. <69

Why did they change party buttons from being smiley faces?
What were tortodrones like to fight?
Sleep?
Jelly Green Giant?
Having a gate to fill up to open the core?
What were the best loadouts before there were flourishes?
Was Iron Slug ever good?

What do you think about the state of the game now, compared to in beta and at release? Gameplay-wise and everything else (community, updates, etc).

I have a question about the beta.

Why are we still focused on the beta two years after release? Other games, like Minecraft don't have people like "Wow, what was the beta like?" Or perhaps only occasionally ask about alpha and classic and the likes of those, but they aren't overly excited about them. No one says "Wow! What kinds of things did the Pokemon demos have in them???", unless they're like, you know. A PokeNerd. (nothing wrong with that) Why do you suppose we're so obsessed with our beta?

You are experiencing a PICNIC ERROR!

EDIT: WOOPS....there was beta stuff here. I thought we were saying stuff, not asking stuff.

Turns red with embarrassment and shuffles away.

What was the CE price on beta days?

@Fehzor, I think we can answer that question without having a podcast about it. It's because this is one of the only games to take more content out of a playable beta build than has been put in over two years of release.

Ah, that's why. I'm sure that NJ can only concur.

I'd be drooling over all the equipment that is no longer in the current game (Shining Ward, Boswick's Feral Kat Helm, Frost Sword, Firefighter Helm) so anything you could cover on those would be awesome.

ohh i wasnt around during beta, would love to hear how it was back in the days.

@Fehzor the reason I want to know about it, is pretty much the same mindset as why people want to find out about ancient history/dinosaurs in real life :D

@Stelli-
But there is a scientific basis for that. That makes progress, and is a legitimate endeavor.

As I said before, other games look back rarely and only the truly obsessed do it. How come Spiral Knights is different?

For the most part, they don't.

Notch hid it.

But when they did, they did because it was free.

For the terrain generation!

Indev and Infdev had some amazing terrain generation to he point where you could walk in any direction and find something pretty great or bizarre not long after. Stuff like ravines and the early stages of the mineshaft just added to it... not gonna forget finding my first underwater ravine that linked to a giant underground dome full of lava and diamonds!

And then Notch made the generation boring as dirt since apparently what gave the terrain such amazing potential was a ton of bugs and correcting them took the most interesting part of the game with it.

What? You would spawn a new world and just walk to the far lands? Extreme Hills is good enough for me.

*Tries to get back on topic*
Uhhh nother question...
What was Super Brawl like?

Exactly. Old versions (even though I said alpha and you said something different) feel different and have interesting things to them.

I wasnt here for beta, so I would like to know about it. How did things look like, how the making and improvement went throughout beta and etc.

Never hurt to find out the past and the history about a game i like.

Why Beta so cool?

Many of my friends reminisce of the olden times of SK.. why is that? because it seems like each new update is worse than the last and is ruining the game more and more..

And Also.. because prices were cheaper before like white chapeaus being sold for 20k cr and such :P

The 3 stages.

What were the 3 stages of beta you mentioned? What changed with each stage?

It's hard to believe that chapeaus were EVER only 20kcr...

...and harder still to believe that Tortodrones ever existed. Did anyone even take a screenshot from the beta? O_o

There are plenty of videos and pictures from the beta. Check youtube and the wiki.

Here's a screenshot of a Tortodrone in beta from Tantarian's wiki page.

I don't know what it is about

I don't know what it is about stuff like this but it always seems to interest me. I heard someone saying a few weeks ago (on The Arsenal Podcast's chat) that it'd be cool to do a beta podcast. And what do you know, here it is. :) Thank you for taking the time to create this.

Question: Is it true that certain stratum of gates simply wouldn't exist if not enough minerals were deposited?

@Rich-Tbiscuit Nice picture. *Notices a couple of different icons, 5 item slots and commas missing from the crown total* Do those lines on the ground indicate AoE attacks from the Tortodrone? It looks pretty deadly.

Question: Is it true that certain stratum of gates simply wouldn't exist if not enough minerals were deposited?

Yeah. Once 3,000 or so minerals were deposited into Strata 1, Strata 2 would unlock and you'd have to put minerals into that.
You could also boost certain mineral's sell price by depositing crowns into the gate (equivalant to the number of minerals left before a Strata is full multiplied by how much you want to boost it by) and that would encourage players to deposit that mineral into the gate (and therefore manipulating it to what you wanted it to be)

Say a gate had 1,000 minerals in it. You boost Valestone's payout by 2 crowns by depositing 4,000 crowns into the gate (2 crowns for the next 2,000 minerals) which means every time someone puts a Valestone into that gate, they get 7 crowns for each unit instead of 5.

@Rich-Tbiscuit Nice picture. *Notices a couple of different icons, 5 item slots and commas missing from the crown total* Do those lines on the ground indicate AoE attacks from the Tortodrone? It looks pretty deadly.

The icons you see are the bug report button and the friends list (although you probably guessed the former)

The Tortodrone fired crystal shards up into the air, which came down like how mortifire's rockets do, except they lodged into the ground and caused elemental damage and shock. He also had a dash attack, and an attack where he slammed the ground causing a huge damage radius (like Trojan's ATTACK UP! ability)

Also, back then, the Troika only went up to 4 star, and there was no freeze line.

I wasn't around during beta but this is what I've picked up over time.
