I just updated the SK on this computer. Did I just have a durp update?
EDIT: The stun, fire, and freeze vials look strange. The pills are the new ones.
I'm jealous of your update in particular, because it looks beautiful.
Yuck, not badges again! Seriously, why do people prefer those things?
Personal preferences aside, looks like your game didn't thoroughly update or something. As for how to fix that I have no idea unless you get another prompt later down the line.
Oh man, I wish my vials didn't look like something out of a cheap flash game. :/
What Byas said. A few people said "make the vials look like actual vials" on the forums a long time ago, but the new vials are fugly.
I want my vials to look like that, if only so I can tell the difference between the sleep and freeze vials.
"Yuck, not badges again! Seriously, why do people prefer those things?"
Beacuse they look like vials, and beacuse they fit the game world and art perfectly. Oh, and beacuse you can tell them apart from eachother!!!
Go and see a doctor about your eyes. If that is not the problem, im sorry to say, you really have no taste. No offence.
That last part was completely unnecessary and uncalled for, you know. There are better ways to get the point across than outright insulting me and telling me I have no taste for having an opinion that differs from your own. Granted, I didn't do a much better job myself in my last post but I didn't go to that extent either.
Either way, let me give you my thoughts. For one, they don't look like vials at all. Rather, they look like badges, with a simple drawing resembling a vial on it. They don't look like actual vials one bit - the new ones do, and I appreciate that. Why? Because throwing what essentially looks like a badge with a drawing on it, supposedly representing the object, on an enemy doesn't feel realistic nor does it feel like it makes an impact. Maybe if you imagine it being a bomb, but in that case why not just call it a, say, "Stun Bomb", or "Fire Bomb"?
Since you use them to interact with the world, be it throwing them at enemies or obstacles it looks and more importantly feels better to have them represent actual items, even if they are just sprites still. What if the gold keys looked like the old vials and later on was changed to look like what it does now? Would that cause a similar uproar like this?
Anyway, those are my thoughts on the subject. Make of it what you will, but I am in favour of the new look and hope it stays
I feel that the old vials, were if anything, fine for the game.
But as Shidara rightly pointed out, they should resemble vials.
I think they need to animate them in order for them to be of any good quality rather than giving new textures.
I think my favorite would be the old icon with an outline with the color of the old circle. This would remove the "Badge" that it looks like and as the same time preserve the icon so many of us are so fond of.
Either the update didn't fully complete or they forgot the training hall... Now this I gotta see.
Also, they also should resemble their contents.
As in the stun vial says it has flashy pellets in it? Yeah.
Or the freeze vial says it has a glacial wind? Do it
I have NO CLUE how anyone can put sleep into a vial...
Curse vial??? Well, I have no clue as it does look like blood. But still...
Don't quote me on this, but I think you can go into the game's in-depth folders and do modding. Well, at least from my point of view it's easier if you have Steam.

Put a Z on it and Viola. Also,
Don't quote me on this,
Ok.

QFT.
And no, I don't think that's allowed.
Yeah, modding or altering the game files is strictly against the rules. I would strongly advice against it lest you're walking on thin ice.
Anyway, back on the subject here, you could easily come up with a variety of icons to represent the effects of a vial's contents (either visible in the concotion or marked on the vial itself or its shape) though it would be rather tricky to do with the lower-tier vials as they are particularly small. Otherwise though, they're easily distinguishable just by looking at the colours. You're unlikely to mistake the different vials for another again after using them once or twice.
The new vials don't have enough color variance between them. Sure, they're different colors, but the number of pixels that are differentiated is small. Personally, I don't think trading away color in exchange for "realism" is a particularly good trade in a game that I play because it is bright and colorful.
Seriously, look at the picture. Every Tier-3 vial on display save the Curse vial. It's pretty clear to me which one is which.
If there are T3 vials side-by-side on the ground, the ground is green grass, and you are looking directly at the vials, then yes. The white and white-green are still a little difficult to tell apart.
Now focus your eyes on the treasure boxes and see if you can distinguish the vials without looking directly at them. You could before.
The vial bar is a different story, as well. Previously, if a slot had something in it, the entire slot was filled with that color. Now there's a lot of black neutral space in every slot. You pretty much have to look directly at the vial bar to read it, which was again something we didn't have to do before.
T1 vials are a different story. The vial icons are also pretty blurry, making it frequently hard to distinguish them from the background without feeling like your eyes are out of focus. The previous circular shape was easy to overlook, as well, but the new shape draws your eye in with its irregularity - most of the time, vials aren't that important.
And what's with the borders on them? It looks like somebody drew them on a white background and then deleted the background with a magic wand tool. Seriously, the vials look like screenshots from a console game made over 10 years ago.
>Seriously, the vials look like screenshots from a console game made over 10 years ago.
And the old ones didn't? lol
And really, the freeze versus sleep vial mistake only really happens the first couple of times and beyond that you really should know the difference without having to really look at them.
>T1 vials are a different story.
Not really.
Aside from being smaller they're not any harder to tell apart either. Besides, you don't spend that much time in Tier 1 comparatively anyway, so it's hardly an issue.
I still need a second to determine whether that sleep vial really is a sleep vial, or if it's a freeze vial. The other Vials are very differently coloured, but I can't tell right off the bat if it's a sleep or freeze vial if I don't have one in my inventory already. I don't need that, especially when I'm fighting.
That, and assuming Kalaina doesn't go into Tier 1 "comparatively" doesn't further your argument, even if true.
Yeah that's exactly what I mean. I didn't mean to accidentally sound like derping with the game files to make it a whole different thing. Just kinda like, change icons a bit and still have the exact same game... Like making your own textures on TF2.
As a 2-year veteran, I can clearly tell which vials are which/ The pale green obviously means sleep. So yeh.
About new vials vs old vials, the old vials were a bit wierd (you essentially threw icons, what's up with that?) but the new ones are worse. They didn't change the 2D look, but they changed the aesthetic to not fit with either the new or old UI. The vials should either fit with the UI, or be full 3D models.
The Mecha Knight Kits still look the same, and... they just don't fit the new vial style. I think one of the two needs a change.
I read the comments again, and I want to reply to a couple things.
I think one of the two needs a change.
Vials, definitely, and probably the Mech.
Vials if only because before there was a bigger, more obvious difference between them before and, more importantly, they look odd now.
Because throwing what essentially looks like a badge with a drawing on it, supposedly representing the object, on an enemy doesn't feel realistic nor does it feel like it makes an impact
It's a game with teleporting dogs, sentient jelly, and some big dude who has a mask that attacks you itself. I don't think realism has much to say in this, although the Vials should feel like they have an impact (despite the fact they feel exactly the same).
The pale green obviously means sleep.
I think it's more an icy blue or dull grey. It still doesn't matter; it still looks too much like a freeze Vial anyway.
I sincerely hope that this isn't a bug.
