Recently, I've come up with a theory: the reason why people hate the Polaris is because they are jealous! They either can't or are too lazy to find the recipes for it and leading up to it, or can't run the Roarmulus Twins enough to get the basic Pulsar. Also, contrary to what is popularly believed by many people, using the Polaris does require some amount of skill to compensate for the slow bullet speed. Deal with it.

Praise the sun! \o/

Not sure if srs.

It's hated because of the obnoxious flashes and the knockback. A sword will greatly out-damage a Polaris, but you can't kill something if your teammate keeps knocking it around.

Theory for why People Hate the Polaris

They're so easy to use (you literally just go a fair distance away and just continuously click your mouse button until the enemy's dead) and on top of that they deal massive damage. Don't even talk about its uses in Lockdown.

How can anyone be jealous if almost everyone has one...?

Even if this isn't supposed to be a troll thread, and I'm sure it's not supposed to be, it inadvertently is. You're directly calling at least half of the forums population jealous, if not more. I am fairly certain the majority of the people here despise the easy of use combined with the levels of power the polaris has. It practically lets you set bombs at range at a must faster rate than actual bombs. Plus, being a gun, it can work around the striker classes bomb penalty. On top of that, it's range-only weakness is completely overlooked by strikers due to the fact that they will almost always have a weapon to fill in the close range gap the gun has. Not so mention the shock, a mobility reducing status, once again working ever-so well with the mobility based striker pack. It works around the bomb penalty and complements swords, making what is arguably the most powerful class even stronger than it already was, even if you aren't a remotely skilled gunner whatsoever.

FALCON PUNCH!

Polaris is hated because of how much damage it deals, its shock, and the knockback.

Polaris is easily spammable, moves slow but has the chance to shock, shock is annoying, interrupts whatever your doing, and leaves you vulnerable for about 1.5 seconds, which is enough time to get you killed. 2 polaris's can easily block off a whole entrance, so 6 of them is even more overpowered.

TL;DR The polaris is a shocking wall generator that deals knockback and a lot of damage.

People hate it because it's an annoyance.

I have a Polaris on one character and I really don't feel like giving my other characters such a cheap weapon.
Note that I use both Hammer, Gran Faust, and Toothpick so I'm all about overpowered crap.

Not everyone hates it for the same reasons.

I, and a small number of people (Equal to 12% of the community) see Pulsars as a "cursed" weapon, and for the following reason.

Player corrosion.

Pulsars require little skill at all to use - Just point it at the desired area that you want things dead, spam the attack button, and they're dead. Now, while this may seem all fine and dandy, it does however, over time, degrade a user's abilities.

A one-time use to solve something you've no hope against winning may be allowable, but consistent use causes a person to become "lazy" over time, lowering their evasion, preventing them from allocating more proper tactics (That often can end enemies quicker than without the gun), and from overall getting a genuine, enjoyable, gameplay experience.

While I have not seen the effects from other players before my own eyes, I have seen /myself/ do it back in my early days. After I realized what it can do to a person, I sold it immediately (To another player, money means more than one's personal beliefs.) to prevent myself from ever walking down that horrible road again.

We can forgive the lag (Mostly since a ton of people have graphic cards that can handle a little explosion) We can forgive the knockback (Better synergy between teammates can make knockback very deadly to combine with other weapons) but we cannot forgive what it does to a person over time.

I've said my words, it is time for others to say theirs.

I use a Supernova, and I try

I use a Supernova, and I try to restrict usage of it to when there are no other players around, or on turrets. Often I use the unexpanded bullet to avoid knockback, and usually only use the expanded bullet when I need to clear an area of monsters as preparation for another attack.

Polaris does more damage so it allows players to "crutch" on it for the damage, the shock is irritating and occaisionally a hinderance to other players, and the explosions from a Polaris aren't as "soft" on the eyes as a Supernova, is what people tell me.

one important thing is the

one important thing is the lag/latency it causes. if u spam like 3 bullets at a high latency playeryou'll guarantee hit them if you hav ping advantage because they cannot move in time due to server restriction to dodge. if u combine 6 or more polaris spam in a game that player will likely suffer data congestion because all that data suddenly rushing to their client will cause lag and likely kill them. Its not polaris envy its more like latency envy. polaris just buzz-kill for lag players that just want to have a fun time.

I have nothing against the

I have nothing against the Pulsar lines. What I do dislike are idiots who have no idea of when using a heavy knockback, screenflash-causing weapon is appropriate or inappropriate.

Appropriate uses for Pulsars:

  • Pushing enemies into the area of a haze bomb.
  • Suppressing turrets with a steady rate of fire.
  • Awkwardly placed stuff like wheel rollers.
  • Destroying flying Howlitzer heads.
  • Unexpanded bullets for general damage purposes, if you must
  • Expanded bullets on other enemies when everyone else is dead/playing solo.

Inappropriate uses for Pulsars:

  • Pushing enemies into people's faces (thanks for that Trojan to the face).
  • Pushing enemies out of the way of people's attacks.
  • Triggering turrets and then failing to keep them suppressed because you used your entire clip. Dumbass.
  • Expanded bullets on monsters that someone else is already engaging in melee.
  • Trolling. (Unless in a party with close friends/guildmates, and even then only maybe.)

Regrettably, I see a lot more idiots than I do careful users.

Also, I do have a Polaris. It sits in my Arsenal all the time being jelly of my Nova and Storm Drivers, which do the same job but with less lag, less party aggro and more damage. (They don't knock stuff around, but then, I have a Swiftstrike Buckler for that, so I'll live.)

Pulsars

Much like the Rocket Hammer, the skill needed to make efficient use of it is very low. It just takes a bit of paying attention and you can wall enemies into a corner with no hopes of escape. I whipped out my Radiant Pulsar to level it up for the Supernova and it was ridiculous seeing how easy it is to use in contrast to every other gun I own bar maybe the Valiance, if not only because I have to maintain a certain amount of distance to get maximum output from it, at which point the target becomes helpless as I knock it into a corner and lock it there.

Bottom line is, you don't have to be good with it to be dangerous, but when you are you're ridiculously powerful with it.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! HAHAHAHA! HA. ha.

I own a Polaris and the 3* Supernova [or what ever its called]
Yet i dont use them in PvE or PvP for several reasons:
-no-skill
-Lag-Gun. causes more lag than the Nitrome
-push back actually hurts your teammates
-I am not a douche
-theres other ways to kill someone, Im not gonna do it the noob way.

In PvE, a properly used

In PvE, a properly used Polaris can provide some of the game's highest DPS in certain situations. Specifically, FSC zombies. There is some nuance to the knockback management, but for the most part it's easy to use and it's easy to use without hindering your teammates. If the knockback is getting in the way, don't blame the Polaris, blame the idiots who don't pay attention to their team. And if Polaris bullets cause you lag, it's probably about time to get a better computer - you probably have a machine that's at least 5 years old, a machine that was quite cheap 3 years ago, or you're on a laptop that was never intended for gaming.

In Lockdown, I'm inclined to say that the Polaris isn't any worse than any other weapons, but that's in a 1vX context where the 1 has a Polaris and is up against one or more opponents on their own (specifically, this is a desirable situation for anyone who is hard to kill). The problem is when it becomes 2vX and one of the 2 has a Polaris. It just gets a little too dicey for the other team at that point, as they are liable to end up shocked while trying to dodge the second team member, and then killed.

Further, the shock proc means it's a very useful weapon for people who aren't even wearing Gunslinger gear or at all geared to use guns, which is annoying as it muddles Lockdowns inherent classes.

I will say that most of the people who complain about my Polaris in Lockdown are generally just very predictable in their movement, allowing me to put Polaris bullets right where they're about to go - this isn't really Polaris being overpowered so much as them being terrible at Lockdown. There are legitimate complaints to be made, however, and all-in-all I do feel that Polaris probably is the most broken weapon. It's just a question of whether or not it is a necessary countermeasure to prevent Lockdown from becoming a complete toothpick-fest.

Your argument only valid if most people didn't have one...but most people have that weapon :/
The slow bullet make it worst, not better and in addition to that, the bullet is like a bomb!

Simplified reason to why people hate them:

PvE: It can kill your teamates and save mobs from being kill by your teamates
PvP: It is a 3 klip flying bomb that deal shock and pushback

Polaris requires zero skill to use. You get away from mobs, spam the whole clip and repeat. The bullet itself and hitbox are big enough to compensate for the low bullet speed. Basically, as everyone said, it is a mobile bomb.

Is it irritating? Yes it is. Aside from the knockback, it blinds you and teammates. If the one who carries the Polaris had born with the right side of the brain missing, it is highly possible that he will push monsters to you in tight places.

Conclusion: Don't spam it everywhere.
