Ever since the new UI came about, I've been going through more lag spikes. I've disabled everything I can and am operating at the lowest settings, as I di before such a thing was an issue. I have read the performance FAQs and have done what I can. Is this an issue for anyone else or am I in the midst of a spurious correlation?
Has the new UI made the game's required specs greater?
My game seems to be a bit slower. Running two clients at once (to trade between my alts, in Haven) is now a painful affair, whereas it used to be no problem.
Since the new UI was released I've noticed that the game seems to be sluggish. Movement's on the screen are jittery. Not the serious rubberbanding type lag that I get with internet connection issues but more like very frequent miniture lag spikes . I was running the default graphics settings as I have since launch have now turned them down to low. That helped some but the problem is still there. It's is most noticable in lockdown. I now teleport almost constantly when I never used to do that during matches.
Yeah, now I'm getting a lot of freezes when playing on the notebook because of something that nobody asked for while not getting anything good from the new UI when comparing to the old one. GG, OOO. I though you guys wouldn't make something that could surpass the shard bombs fiasco but you guys proved me otherwise.
It's poopily made...
I used to get lag but it was tolerable, now the spikes are far too many half the time sending me to spikes and shadow fire.
Seriously OOO, get it together.
Ever since the new UI, I've been just fine. My connection is sitll the same and everything. If you're having more frequent lag than that's your thing.
Also, Hi, Burq. Fellow guildy.
I have noticed a slight drop in the performance of SK after the UI update. Not a huge change, but a little bit. I don't know if this is due to the UI using more resources, my computer slowly getting older, or some niggles in the UI that will be ironed out at a later date. Maybe all 3.
Ever since the new UI update, I have had severe difficulty in playing with other people in the party - when I do that nowadays, I end up lagging out once or twice a level, and having to reboot Spiral Knights. (Previously, I only had issues in graphics-heavy levels, such as Ironclaw Muntitions Factory or Operation Crimson Hammer.)
It's kind of ironic that this is a multiplayer game I can no longer play as a multiplayer game.
I just run the game and nothing else. I don't notice any performance issues although on high settings my entire computer seems to crash. Just playing on the lowest settings possible is ok for me. You might want to move this topic to Technical Issues as I have no solution.
I also am not running the steam client.

It could be the many players suddenly returning for the update, most of which probably left again by now or will wash out back into the sea within the next couple days.
New updates always come with lag, but wether it's due to a surge of players or bad optimization we'll never know. Unless they tell us. It'll probably get sorted out (mostly) in a few weeks or so.
I'd love for some optimization, to be honest.
@Xtweeterx
Sup, tweet!
Yes definitely lagging more since the last 2 updates.. LD has become even worse cause of it.. I want OOO to put LD in front of everything else as it is the longest lasting element of the game and is especially attractive for end gamers and new comers alike.. Not only that but people spend a lot of $$$$$$ to BUY CE to get the uvs for LD.. so idk why they are making LD worse and worse.... i just dont get it..
It displays more information, it should be heavier, but not this much -I think-
Same issue. I've always played at the lowest level possible so as to have the smoothest lockdown gaming experience....I'm no longer able to even function in LD. This last string of updates has ruined me.
The new update UI does not put more load on your system. How do i know ? On my last computer my performance improved during gameplay.
This "New UI causes lots of lag" is completely a lie. Im assuming youre talking above FPS lag, my old CPU went from 20 FPS with the prior UI to 30 FPS with the new one, they did something to reduce frame rate lag or else i would be having the same problem with my old computer, and my old computer is ancient. If anything the new UI slightly optimized frames and loading in the menus, my old PC frozen momentarily while the old UI menus loaded, didnt do that after the update.
Im talking AMD Phenom x3 ancient, as in GEforce 8400 old.
Just my 2 Cents, lying about the UI "creating more lag" wont get it changed faster because im pretty sure the developers worked on optimizing it.
Also, update your drivers, java.
Tin-Foil, I am aware that for some, this is just another place for people to complain and are noticing something that is not actually there. This new update however has created a significant (as in I can tell the difference) change in my CPU's processing. It is too radical of a statement for you to claim that it is a complete lie because only you gained and others lost. I am happy you have attained a greater gaming experience, however the case, optimizing the UI is not the purpose of this thread, do not steer the words of this post. We are simply making a check on whether or not people have experienced a difference in performance due to the update.
I got less lag spikes odd as it may sound.
Raptorsevens, you can potentially help the world of Spiral Knights.
Would you care to tell us your system specs and game settings?
Mine is a Processor of i3 2.27GHz and 3.8GB usable ram under Windows 7 64 bit.
Good for you that it improved your framerate, but calling everyone a liar without any proof is kinda harsh, don't you think? Specially when you are a minority on the thread. I won't lie, I don't like the new UI's design but the framerate drop is a legit problem here, at least for me.
Before the update I could play it and only get slowdowns in very few ocasions, but right now the game is freezing and getting slowdowns as soon as I start playing; Hell I can't even go to Haven after a mission because I'm always getting stuck at Haven's loading (so much time that I actually get DC'ed lot's of times before actually making it to haven) and when I finally make it there it's like playing some powerpoint for a minute or so (after that it stabilizes). It's a notebook for sure, but I never had this kind of trouble with the old UI or even with other games like Deus EX, C9, Archeblade, etc. Isolated problem or not, it's been really making me mad, even more when added to the UI's designs problems.
I get lag spikes occasionally that are usually caused by connection issues or background programs like my anti-virus deciding to update. This is not caused by my connection. It is a constant condition that has happened ever since the April 3rd patch even when my connection is stable and running at it's maximum ability.
Even when I'm alone in my guild hall where there aren't many effects showing the graphics do not scroll smoothly as I move across the hallways. It is like a steady stream on mini screen freezes that are very brief but happen every second or two. It creates a jittery appearance as I move. Drivers and Jave are fully updated. My processor and graphics are significantly better than what Tin-Foil-Hat listed. The condition gets worse in the clockworks and far worse in LD.
Are you guys playing on fullscreen or windowed? I usually play on windowed, but decided to try fullscreen and the slowdowns/freezes got reduced (it feels like the pre-new-UI windowed mode). But, as nothing is ever perfect with OOO, the game crashes as soon as I switch between windows, so it really isn't a practical option for me to abandon the windowed mode.
I've definitely noticed increased interface latency with the new UI. Shield doesn't go up as fast, charge releases go unnoticed, and so on. My system is down around the lower end of the (previous) requirements, so I'd say they've gone up.
Usually I don't have too much of a lag problem. I got completely disconnected once a few months ago, but that's only happened once. Up until a few weeks ago (about 2-3), I had it pretty bad where to me I'd be running in place but others said I was walking straight into a wall, though I managed to never die...
Lately though, and (DISCLAIMER) I don't know if it's because of the update or because I've only paid attention since the update, it's been really jerky. It gets noticeably worse whenever there's gobs of enemies, like arenas or the minis, but it's always been like that. It's when I'm like walking around in the clockworks, with or without others. It seems like either the animation's jerky or the controls are sucking.
As far as I can tell everything is up to date on my computer, so that's not the problem. I'm on a macbook and using the college's internet, but nothing else is slow, unless the internet is completely down.
Even though I am like the millionth player to say so, IMHO this new UI sucks.
Slightly slower between loading screens, the loading seems to be faster, but it takes an extra few seconds to start up the loading screen, really strange.
Generally, I don't see much significant speed differences when using at low spec, I haven't used Medium or High spec to find out too much.
The specs on my EON 11" Origin PC Netbook are as below:
CPU: intel Core i7 3740QM
RAM: 16 GB (2x8GB) 1333 Mhz
GPU: 1GB NVIDIA GT650M
And a Corsair 240GB SSD
I've been having the same problem. It's not too significant, but it is certainly more regular now than it used to be with the old UI. It could also have been another update from the UI timing (after February updates, but before the update today with new enemies).
It annoys me when they make additional graphics and things that are still visible even on low settings. I want my settings low so I can see what I am attacking without sparks and shiny animations in the way (let alone the lag that comes with it). I just wish they'd add effects for the people who WANT effects and therefore play on medium or high graphics :(
