When I saw the announcement, I knew this thread was coming back. The sad thing is that it's relevant again, which means that we still have no idea where the game's headed. /scared
Can Spiral Knights Recapture Its Glory Before It's Too Late? - A Big Picture Analysis
I'm a bit sad that this still didn't get any response from Three Rings. But I think there is a way to directly get in touch with them and that is via their website:
Sorry I accidentally posted on the wrong thread and necroed. Please accept my sincere apology.
This thread is exactly how I feel.
It's kinda disheartening that it had been up since April and there's no official response yet. I think there's a lot of thought put into this (I'd inclined to call it love letter to the game even) and so I think it'd be nice to have at least a confirmation on it not being for naught.
Although just looking t the replies I get the sense that you did a service for the community anyway. Kudos!
I find that most major updates that I have been present for have involved extensive gameplay changes. This is not as it should be. Most MMOs only rarely change the basic parts of how the game is played. SK does this often (i.e. removing mist energy). Why can't the game simply have content updates (storyline, weapons, etc.), instead of completely revamping systems that have been in place from the beginning of the games production? Can't they just ADD to the game instead of substituting one major part of the game for a new one? I feel like all they're doing is making hard to keep up with the constant changes... yet still managing to not move the game forward in ANY way. OCH was good, since it added weapons and armor, and some new levels and insight into the gremlin hierarchy. Why do they keep treading water and swapping out content that nobody wants?
I agree with you all. Thanks Gamer for posting this suggestion. I want the Old Spiral Knights back!
I, too, have been grappling recently with conflict over spiral knights. It's such a fun game, but the OOO does not seem to be taking care of us, whether or not these changes have been of their own free will or if Sega is twisting their arm.

I have a good example of a game that has died due to the company's bankruptcy but was revived by the community themselves with some of them coding the game.
The game is called hellgate london. At first, flagship studios made this game superhyped, I saw advertisement on the television itself however due to the extreme promotion and poor management of the budget, the company went into bankruptcy which subsequently saw the game going back to the other company in Korea. This meant EU,ASIA and NA players had no support whatsoever. Little by little, the community started to make use of whatever the game has left and started to develop upon it. Sadly, they only had EU support which meant as an Asian player, all hope is lost. But the community coders did introduce all the content previously hidden and also added extra difficulty to the game itself. This made the 60$ totally worth it.
Now this example does not mirror OOO's situation. What we have now is a game that can die because in itself the game original idea was an arcadish type of game. It is unique and no other games come close to it. Greater Dynamics can be added to this game. I have left the game once 1 year ago and find myself returning because other mmorpg requires you to spam skillz and have mad gearz just to feel great. This game does not, having full vog and 1 elemental weapon and blitz allow me to do fsc without any issues. UV's are just extra goodies people can go for. I just wished the game did not transform to the way it is now.
Spiral knight mirrors to this game called Trickster by NTREEV very closely. Trickster was game which had massive grinding and people would party each in areas and grind with different characters. They had a party exp system whereby a party with a myriad of different jobs of character gave the most exp allowing you to level up quickly. The max level was 400. Now, the game is largely dead because it was replaced by story quests and it gave the most exp guranteeing your progression if you followed the quests to a tee. The game targeted hardcore players and now gradually shifted to the casual players. No more interaction but just accept whatever the game feeds you. Soon you will find your weapons are weak and people resort to paying to win with the cash shop.
I sincerely hope this might change in future. Otherwise, I pity the vets or players who paid a lot to OOO since 2011
I know that many old players liked the way SK has been before and dislike the current content in one way or another. It is also no secret, that people leave because they don't like this game anymore.
But you have to consider that new people are joining, too and totally like the new content.
I do not know the exact numbers of how many people join and leave, but if there would have been more people leaving and almost no people joining this game, OOO had surely changed its direction already.
I know another game that had similar troubles. After a certain big event many vateran players did leave because the game changed too much away from what they loved once, but nowdays this very game got even more people than it had before.
I can not say weather Spiral Knights got more or weather they got less money income after that Update, but in the end this is the major thing that matters for a game publisher.
A personal note: I started 1 week before missions got implemented; so it is far before the big UI or the Chaos Set update. But to me this renewal doesn't hit me that hard. I just would like to see some things more balanced so that one set doesn't cover everything. So keep Mad bomber for bombs, Mad Gunner for guns and Mad Swordman for swords (or something like this) but decrease the chaos buffs to minor ones.
But the UI does not hinder the gameplay itselfe. I don't even think they should change it back, but add things here and there to *improve* it. But not to hit a reset button, this would mess up a game that is liked as it is and only a vateran group is raging about everything new.
And until Chaos looses its all-round characteristic I will keep using this set myselfe, too, until it got fixed.
I don't know HOW you did it... I don't know WHY you did it... but somehow, you took the identity of another forum-er, and posted.
And I don't know why, but you decided to necro this thread just to talk to a forumer instead of sending a mail in game.
Well it wasn't TOO bad of a necro. I hope.
Blorgey barble.
Heh heh... http://mashable.com/2014/04/18/awkward-moment-seal/
I think this thread should be seen, especially the OP and kliplik-forum's post
It is a really big pain to see a lot of the SK members to leave because SK is really such a good game! I remember playing bac in 2012 and seeing a lot of people playing and now, you can only choose to solo mission :(. I can't get over leaving this game, this will be my final say, goodbye to this great community.
It saddens me to not see most of the people here on the forums nowadays.
Not to necro, but this is incredibly notable and the Three Rings developers must see this.
The backlash on these forums is a small, visible portion of a much larger negative reaction, like the tip of an iceberg.
According to a certain group of forummers, the ones complaining are just a very small group of angry people who don't like the changes made to the game and come to the forums to complain, happy people don't go to the forums to say good things... a "vocal minority"
But well, whatever people want to say they'll say it right? my opinion my opinion my opinion my opinion, That's all we've been reduced to.
I have nothing else to say and I'm staying neutral before any tomatoes are thrown.
Speaking as a new player, a fresh face in the forums, I'm actually quite content with the game as is. I'm a bad enough player to barely pass the current difficulty as is, an increase would only make me utterly useless in this game. I hear people talk about the 'good old days' all the time in the forums, and most of the time, I'm actually a little put off by the things they tell me.
The game is becoming more casual. The casual pool of players are pretty terrible, and I'm not going to deny that OOO made a bad business move on that. But truth be told, I sure feel benefitted.
But this is just my opinion. Who am I but just another lowly newb? and a free player at that. My opinion isn't worth much, if at all.
Time to go grind on a mission level while being overly reliant on my sprite.
Beat me, stab me, kill me, torture me, or whatever it is you do to people that necro theads. My beliefs stay strong with this thread and I'm sure there are other people that can say the same.
I agree
@addis Pardiagm shift to Detla attack-x i like ff13
@daft i pla PS2 on the Pc and it REALLY FUN! i see what your going with this .
Also Destiny i think has a silmer system also to PS2 the Gm listen and update the game to how the players wants it. thought their sttill some problems to it...
But yeah to spend after $100 on a game for 4 years to shutdown , it sad....
For spiral knights!
Nice idea like it. Please loook my idea too for a better gameing http://forums.spiralknights.com/en/node/110755
Reason people don't play? Box promos.
Promos are just stupid. They add virtually nothing to the game; they only benefit you if you chip in some money, but even then it's unnecessary. We have a huge amount of accessories in the game already.
People are leaving because there are no gameplay updates being released, at a remotely decent pace anyway. OOO just focuses on box promos. Every time a new box promo is released, it's like a slap to the face. MMOs live due to constant updates, not due to new premium items coming out once in a while.
The sad part is that spiral knights hardly changed since I had a break for like, 8 months. I came back because I had the sudden urge to play sk again, but it wont be long before I get bored.
Box promos are like a poison to this game. They are killing the game slowly, and OOO doesn't know what they're doing.
@Ed-Efnek:
You might/will get in trouble if you keep necroing without adding anything to the threads. Especially sense what you are doing is labeled as spam where you copy paste the same message across all the threads you necro.
I played this game in 2012 - 2013 on a different account with a few friends, it was like my favorite game, then after quitting and coming back a few weeks ago It's about the same, probably worse. Just missed so wing promo boxes :)
this isn't the worst thread necro here but I'll apologize anyways
I'm only reviving this thread since it seems that if that happened the player base would increase so more fun to be had in this game. I started playing somewhere in january and I kinda left in july after spending a few months in the "time to hit king of ashes 5 times a day, WWWOOOOOOOO!" part of the game. I read up on what the game was like before, and, except for the 10 energy to use the elevator part, I feel like it would be a lot more fun and challenging to me than what the game is at right now (what is there to do after you can solo vanaduck with no sparks? do it with noob gear?).
and here's my thoughts on everything you vets loved and hate:
battle sprites: nobody uses them! except for convenience things such as hit switches (dragon) or skip spikes (cat) or just have a purple thing following you around (ghost, but srsly, cat looks better, especially when you get it to its ulti levels). From what I've seen 1 in 100-200 players actually uses them for anything BUT the things I've just described (if you're wondering what kind of person I am, I personally <3 the spike skipping cat of awesomeness).
firecrystals: https://youtu.be/etzMjoH0rJw then you get to Champion and Vanguard. NOT THE RADS!!! NOT THE RADS!!!
difficulty: again, soloing vana, its supposed to take multiple people right? Everything but the dual trojans right before the vana fight is a joke. nothing is hard except for two rooms (the other difficult one is the right wing of the third level), and its not even the boss. BORING...
necromancy: I'm glad this thread is still relevant.
missions: I just find them super convenient, it might take away the magic for someone who's played SK in its glory days, but I just find it a lot quicker and easier than going through the arcade.
energy for elevator pass: no, but energy is hard to get nowadays, so my opinion may be a bit biased.
hud: I played with the new hud, I don't care.
And I think we can all agree that once you've put 100 hours and 10 bucks into the game (freaking elite orbs), the game becomes the tier 9-3 mission, and maybe that large purple blob we like to murder a few times for the antigua. pls, I just want more content worth farming :'( I'll say more on my opinion of how things are now if anyone asks.
There's some brilliant feedback going in this thread. Hope OOO at least leaves a response notifying us that they've read it.
This thread is a nice reminder of the community that keeps me in this game.
