So, it's been on my mind for a while now, so I'm gonna just post some ponderings on the balance of the SL armors. In theory, these are the most difficult armors to get in the entire game, so its been bothering me why only a couple of them see common use other than as costumes.
Snarbolax Coat
The Shadow version of the most popular armor set in the game, Snarb coat is pretty much the poster child for SL armors here, although I do wonder if it would be as much of a must-have if Shadow armors in general didn't suck. Personally I find it odd that it provides only +2 status bonuses (even if it is for two different statuses), and I think it would be interesting if its +Dmg was changed to +CTR (so that all three Wolver armors provided a different type of bonus). But yeah, this is arguably one of the most popular armors in the game, since it provides decent defense bonuses (in an otherwise weak armor type), a powerful weapon bonus, and no status weaknesses.
Ice Queen Mail
While nothing outstanding, it provides solid Piercing defense, and is undeniably better than its counterpart, Royal Jelly Mail, since the Sleep status doesn't really exist anymore. While strong defensively, it does pretty much the same things as Skolver Coat, which provides the more sought-after damage bonus. My problem here isn't really with Ice Queen Mail itself, but with the Jelly set as a whole, since sleep doesn't exist and stun has to come from very specific monsters (none of which deal Piercing damage).
Mercurial Demo Suit
Small damage buff to bombs, decent armor bonus, no status weakness, and one of the only Movement bonuses in the game. I kind of wish it gave +CTR instead of +Dmg (to match the movement speed), but that's a small nitpick.
Heavenly Iron Armor
Full disclosure: I use this set, so I'm a little biased in wanting this to be better.
-4 Shock weakness in exchange for resistance to a status that barely exists in the game. WTF. The entire Angelic line is cursed with this problem, but Heavenly Iron has it the worst since it even loses the Poison resist that the rest of the set has. OOO, I don't know why you think Curse resist is such a big deal.
Almirian Crusader Armor
Again with Curse resist coming with weakness. Although this time it's only +2/-2, but I'm still a little perplexed as to why the Almirian shield resists fire but the armor is weak to it. And even if you do think that +2 Curse is equivalent to -2 Fire, this armor has no other qualities, redeeming or otherwise. Somehow fitting that the most boring SL armor is made from the most boring regular armor (Cobalt), but no SL armor should be boring, especially when it comes from the final SL boss.
Arcane Salamander Suit
The Salamander suits confuse me. They provide Elemental defense, but a damage bonus against Piercing enemies. And even if you count that as a wash, their resistances are plainly outclassed by the Grey Feather set. It's a shame, because I so badly want to like this set. If it provided a damage bonus against an elemental enemy (especially Gremlins), I'd be all over this.
Well I respect your thoughts I... Have absolutely nothing to say. *_*
