Hello all! I just wanted to introduce myself to the community. I'm a brand-new knight here, still getting used to the game. I'm enjoying it at the moment. I just have some questions:
1.) Does it take a lot of real-life money to be good in this game? (Is it "pay-to-win")
2.) How can I earn a lot of crowns easily?
3.) Any other tips, tricks, strategies or anything would be appreciated :)
Hello! I'm new around here
Welcome in! Remember, it's a game, so have fun :)
Something I think you should learn ASAP is how to shield-bump enemies, and tbh everything to do with your shield. Never leave Haven without it, it's the one item which will keep you alive as long as possible.
Decide which weapon type you like. I'd recommend (personally) Wolver-line armour, a Calibur, and a Voltech Alchemer with a Plate Shield to start off (in Tier 2).
Above all, have fun!
EDIT: If you want me to craft you any of the above items, send a message to Raisins-Alt in-game, and I'll do what I can to sort you some out.
HI, nice to seenew joiners on the game, if u needa guild or anthing of the sort u can always give me a call, just don't beg

This is a good loadout that i would reccomend.
Wolver set/ magic set/ colbat set for armor. These are kind of the main ones and are really useful for different situations.
I would say an autogun would do good, i dont have one but from what ive heard, they are really good starters.
For a shield i would say the owlite path. They have full resistence against shock and fire.
A sword i would HAVE to say a brandish. It has a massive alchemy path for everything. It has shadow branch a shock branch a feeeze branch a fire branch ect.
These stuff are quite high level but they are really GREAT things to have in yoyr arsenal. I want to say that you get the colbat set in the levels so i would wait for that.
Hope that helped. ;)
For Pierce resistance, Jelly is better than Cobalt, always. For offensive buffs with Piercing, Wolver > Gunslinger > All others.
Autoguns are difficult to use safely. While they do have a fairly high DPS, they also lock you in place so you can't move easily. This is a major problem with devilites, especially. If you need a high-DPS and amateur-friendly weapon, get an Antigua from Jelly Gems.
Offence is better than defence in SK, period. Use Wolver.
Brandish is reliable, but their specialized damage types mean that they can never be usable against ALL enemies. Hence, a normal weapon - Calibur has high DPS, average speed and knockback, and a REALLY useful charge if you learn to not knock enemies into your teammates.
Also, since when was 2* 'high level'?
Ty for posting, but still, some of it isn't quite optimal.
Hi guys, thanks for your responses. I really appreciate it.
The most efficient way to do well without spending money is to run bosses IE Snarbolax / Jelly King / Roarmulus and use the tokens from them to purchase gear. Gear purchased this way doesn't cost any materials or energy to craft. Once you've done that and start working on 4* and 5* gear then it's just about patience and finding an effective way to earn crowns and thereby energy. Alternatively, progressing through prestige missions gives some decent gear to get you underway and is less boring than farming bosses.
As far as earning crowns easily there are a lot of options. Jelly King gives a lot of crowns (1000 crowns per 10 mist), and Vanaduke gives even more still (2000 crowns per 10 mist)... assuming you don't die at all. Another method is to scan the auction house frequently, find which recipes are valuable, and then do arcade runs to purchase recipes and then sell them on the auction house.
Uhhh, game play tips. Don't ever get hit. It's better to move out the way than to shield. Shield pushing is important. Learn about the damage types (shadow, elemental, piercing, etc.). There are a lot of easy ways to deal with every enemy in the game, but generally speaking just practice.
Welcome. I hope that you enjoy the game.
1. If you're patient, then you don't need to spend any real money. Basically, your progress through the game is limited by your ability to craft high-star items. Crafting these items requires a lot of crystal energy (CE). If you're playing for free, then you get CE by adventuring in the dungeon over and over again, saving up crowns, and buying CE with crowns. If you're not playing for free, then you can buy a massive amount of CE with real money, and this greatly speeds up the process. However, nothing in the game (except for the Operation Crimson Hammer expansion pack, perhaps) requires real money.
2. There are always many, many threads on earning crowns quickly. Try searching Google for something like "spiral knights forum earn crowns". You will see many threads. The short version is: Do the toughest boss mission that you can, or do graveyards, or buy and sell rare recipes, or sell materials.
3. I recommend that all players read the wiki pages "Damage" and "Status effect". These are two of the crucial rules of the game, and many new players confuse them. I also recommend that you plan your equipment by reading the wiki and forums, figuring out which *5-star* items you want, and only then looking back in their alchemy paths, to figure out how to get them. By working backward from 5 stars like this, you avoid getting stuck in alchemy paths that you don't really want. Also, keep in mind that most of the cost in making a 5-star item comes in the final upgrade from 4-star to 5-star. So don't craft a 5-star item just because you already have the 4-star version; you do not almost have the 5-star item; you're less than halfway there. By following this advice, you can avoid throwing good money after bad.
