It specifically states in the rules of the game to use English in the public and general chats, I'm sick of having to read absolute gibberish because I don't speak your language, KNOCK it off.

If I get hit for cussing, people need to get hit for this. It's disruptive to gameplay and effin annoying.

Speak English or GTFO.

Which rules are you referring to?

You can learn their gibberish if you really wish to talk to them. <--- Side Note

I have to point out you do know Spiral Knights is a global game and Three Rings supports French and Spanish (I am sure there are other languages I am missing).

If you are referring to this rule:

- Please keep the forums in the same languages that are supported in the game. Posts which cannot be read by the moderators will be removed.

^ that only applies on the forums, and that is why they have different languages on the forums one for the spanish speaking players etc.

Have a great day sir.

AKA the game is supported in English, Spanish and French. Other languages to my knowledge aren't supported. IDK, all I know is I can't read the conversation with all this foreign talk going on. It's quite disruptive, and I read the chat more then you think I do.

Make liberal use of the

Make liberal use of the ignore feature, and use the report feature on players you feel are not obeying the rules of the game.

Also, you may consider editing your OP to feature a Spanish and a French translation, since it won't do any good if the people who see your plea cannot read it.

Some guy came up to me and

Some guy came up to me and said exactly that!

"Speaking in different dialects is against the rules"

And it really got me frustrated since I wasn't even talking to the guy.

You can't just come up on someones face going all "Read the TOS" and no specific rule -.-

In all seriousness

Talking in some foreign dialects can be quite frustrating and confusing to some. It can be quite a turnoff as well when new players see a non-english speaking community

Please try to keep most public chats english, keep private conversations private through the /tell function

As Far As I Know

I am a Filipino and I only chat Tagalog to my fellow countrymen.. I dont understand why would they talk Filipino to have conversation with others.. I even enjoy if I come across a Filipino while playing this game because it makes me happy. I follow the rules and I just ignore to those people that I dont understand especially Spanish. The only thing I dont understand is that why Tagalog is the only gibberish thing you can think? :|

Other Languages

What does the "Language" dropdown in the options menu do? Just curious.

I think the TOS line quoted above about forums, even if applied to games, means "Please don't flood the chat with meaningless characters strung together." Certainly, mods will delete posts lacking substance because they're just punctuation marks. However, that should not be the case with a language other than English. Just because you don't know a language doesn't mean that words in that language lack meaning for someone else. Given the global nature of online gaming, you're going to burst a blood vessel if you continue to insist that everyone pander to you and learn YOUR first language.

For the record, I'm a German speaker, and understand neither French nor Spanish. However, I'm also incensed because no one else understands Wingdings (or the poor substitute I've cobbled together with punctuation marks and emotes)

Because...

They teach French, Spanish, and German in high schools and those languages all have historic connections to English, and because to American ears the word 'Tagalog' sounds kind of silly, it's a popular choice for naming an incomprehensible language (Swahili is another for much the same reasons). I don't think the poster was serious so don't take it seriously, please.

And I personally think there's no reason to stop people from chatting in their native language in game. (Although /1 and /2 should be English only, or rather, 'server language only', because they are widely broadcast) The forums have a totally different structure, and are -always- wide audience, so it makes more sense here. That's probably why it's in the forum rules and not the ToS.

Let me clarify something,

Let me clarify something, before anyone gets any wrong ideas:
Players are allowed to use whichever language they wish in the game, wherever they wish. There is no obligation to speak English. Or French. Or Spanish. Or at all. We just ask that you keep posts on the forums in the language of the language specific forums. Also note that the rules still apply for every language, of course. So even if you speak Klingon, you still shouldn't insult others.

The language dropdown in the options menu changes your client's language. We currently offer support and a translated game client in French, Spanish and German. You'll also find a checkbox right beside that dropdown ("Party with any"), where you can chose if you'd like to adventure with Knights who use a different language setting.

Where is that report button? It's becoming more and more clear to me that it's a necessary function of forums.

The real problem here is your ignorance.

You get matched up with people that speaks other languages because you told the game to do so. There is an option, you can get matched up only with people that speaks your language. Not that this is needed on a game this simple though.

Other than that, there are different heavens for different languages.

@1dinosarsqw who are you to dictate what people should or shouldn't do in public chat?

Hey pro tip, it's called PUBLIC, meaning ANYONE may use it. Just because someone doesn't speak english they should stop socializing on a PUBLIC chat channel. If you see someone speaking another language than English on the street in the U.S., do you tell them to stfu and whisper to each other?

Geez, some people are such idiots.
