I'm sure this has been asked and answered but 10 minutes of searching the forums didn't find it, so here we go.

I'd like to know how dual damage on weapons works. I don't want to use the specific names of weapons because then I'll get all kinds anecdotes instead of general info ... so let's say weapon A vs weapon B:

Assume speed and any other factor that might affect damage are equal, except for the number of "boxes" on the weapon's stat infobox.

Weapon A has 9 "boxes" of normal damage
Weapon B has 7 "boxes" or normal and 7 "boxes" of elemental damage. So weapon B deals half normal and half elemental damage, but...

Does weapon B have a damage potential of 14 while weapon A has potential of 9, or does weapon B do have a total potential of 7?

I know there is much more to what determines ACTUAL damage dealt.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Someone told me in a thread how this works, specifically resistances.

Dual damage types just means that your weapon deals half one type and half another type of damage. If you shoot a jelly with a gun that deals 40 total damage, 20 of that could be shadow and 20 piercing, so your shot would deal extra shadow and less piercing, netting you with something like 35 damage. If you used the same gun on a beast, it'd be more like 55-60 damage.

On another note, don't trust the bars, they are generally unreliable. Ask around what the best weapons are before spending mats and money on crafting and leveling them with heat.

To answer your question, in your example, the gun/sword would deal 7 damage of type A damage and 7 points of type B damage for a total of 14.

Don't trust the damage

Don't trust the damage bars.

But if we assume trustable damage bars, then Wrathslash is right.

They say each block on the

They say each block on the meter is worth more than the previous one. i.e. a damage bar that's 6 boxes long, is worth more than twice as much as a damage bar that's 3 boxes long.

Not that you can trust them anyway. They're estimates at best, inconsistent and misleading at worst.

d'oh!

So it sounds like attempts to generalize will pretty much fail because of the quirky box value system... grr. And then if you want to actually test something in the Clockworks, there are so many variables to consider that it'll be really hard to do it right. So to summarize....

D'OH!
