I need something to do with my Magnus, and want to craft an Iron Slug. Is it worth it in hope of a buff?

I like my iron slug. That being said, don't expect it to be good, and don't ever count on this game to see buffs or nerfs happening, or just balance for that matter.

Make both and switch-shoot them. Juggling gremlins is the second most fun thing you can do with this game.
