Also, why is this in the suggestions subforum? Wouldn't it be more approriate in the arsenal subforum, seeing as you don't actually ask how we would balance equipment?
Survey: Spiral Knights gear
Already answered that question earlier in the thread. If you'd like to post a link to it in the Arsenal, please go right ahead!
Do not get me wrong, I endorse the survey and their attempt to get an idea of what people think through - but as someone who studied making and analysing surveys I have to question their approach. A semi-structured interview of this scale will probably cost a tremendous amount of resources.
Did you consider, that people might not have the whole arsenal in mind when filling it? I'd really wonder how many people remembered the Cautery Sword. (I didn't.)
Don't take this as an offence, I just wanted to ask why you took this form of survey.
inb4 everyone that whines to polaris finally changes yet they still die :D
> A semi-structured interview of this scale will probably cost a tremendous amount of resources.
A 30-question Survey Monkey survey, a tremendous amount of resources? No, it didn't. It did take some of my time, and various other people looked it over and suggested changes, but there's nothing about it that could be described as tremendous.

The survey's intended to get an idea of what people are currently thinking about gear on SK--what's at the forefront of their thoughts on the topic. It does not (and should not) assume that all players have the whole arsenal mentally catalogued.
"I'd like to reiterate that we didn't just now "start listening" or suddenly start paying attention to the Suggestions forum. This survey exists because the Suggestions forum was always being read."
-Eurydice
Psst......We already know yall listen, but you know how most MMO's are. It's the playerbase's job to question that, whether seriously or not! =P
"My coworkers and I have been working on this survey in one form or another since mid-February."
-Eurydice
Well, just know your work was definitely worth it!
Thanks for this survey, I think every SK user will find it very usefull, now is time to spread the words!
Also, the time you spent on this, will be rewarded I say.

I kind of did it having several 5 star weapons and gear in mind. Most were just used as examples though. I don't have the time or patience to go through every weapon and piece of armour and say what I think is good or bad about them <.<' Nor do I think you guys would want that, now that I saw you say that.
I took almost an hour on this survey. I think what El-Odio said has a point, especially he has knowledge and experience on design and analysis of survey (which is not easy but is very important in practice, because Garbage-In, Garbage-Out).
Eury if you do not want to hear my suggestion, I'm fine with it. But please do listen to the other people you would listen (like El-Odio). I think he has a point to raise that concern. Disclaimer: I also have knowledge in design and analysis of surveys. I passed the entrance exam to Statistic Canada and they are the bureau that compile statistic for the Government.
I think when he says it cost resources, he probably meant all the man-hours required to read the essays everyone no doubt wrote.
You should hire a team of interns just for Luguiru's reply, I imagine.
I have this image in my head of a bleary-eyed Eury with a cup of coffee in her hand late at night desperately trying to reload the survey results page after the size of Luguiru's results crashed the entire surveymonkey website.
I kept mine somewhat short and linked a few things in my thread and other threads. I also forgot a few things like Cautery and Scarlet.
Should I take three days to fill out another or trust they have been paying attention to my thread and my contributions to other threads?
Somewhat short is Luguiru speak for: the entire Lord of the Rings series is the same size as the opening paragraph.
I just heard about the survey, and I'm definitely gonna fill it out.
Also, I haven't seen this much purple since I watched Barney.
"Why would the name of the person who filled out the survey affect equipment balance?"
Gee I wonder... maybe a small reward for filling out so people who didn't get anything around the last present from the new gift system get something? < /tinfoilhat>
I did the survey and I went through detail which took about a hour on April 24. It was night, so I was kind of tired :/
DRAT! I forgot to mention Brandishes in my survey thing!
Can someone include "Tier 3 Brandish charges are too long range for swords. They feel overly gun-like in their current state." for me somewhere in there?
@autofire
Does "Brandishes are OP because it's charge attack as a range of an autogun and has a decent attack speed overall" count?
How about: "Brandishes - The charge attack is a gun, sword, and bomb all in one. Except better than all of them. More damage output than a sword or bomb, similar range to a gun. Not to mention mass status and AoE capabilities."
I put that in mine.
Thank you Three Rings for the Survey. It took me a couple of hours (I'm a bit slow so I take my time to answer the best I can.) to complete it, but I did answer as much as possible to my knowledge and hope for the best in the future of your services. Keep working hard and never give up!
Also, I like Jellies.
maybe my OP grey feather set will get a buff to be more OP after this...
Finally. A formal way to praise OOO for the chaos buffs and a way to complain about hammers.
/clap Eurydice
I can confirm the team reading the suggestion forum. I had absentmindedly used a naughty word in a thread that had long since left the early pages and suddenly got a warning for it. Either their forum moderators are weeks behind or they're lurking out there, reading old posts with a enough attention to notice minor infractions.
+1 to the many thanks for reaching out for feedback! Its being much more than the earlier in-game survey thingy is very reassuring.
I don't have any thoughts on gear balance that aren't already well-known, but submitted my data points so they can be counted. I tried to leave the checkboxes for "most useful damage type" by weapon class all blank since I find them all greatly useful for some or other reasonable interpretation of the question, but the monkey you hired insisted that I select something, so I chose all of them. :D
I do have one nit to pick with the checkbox parts, though. There's a lot of places I'd have selected "I don't have the experience to have formed an opinion yet" box, were one available.
No hard feelings but every gear has it pro's and con's.
@knight-of-india:
talk this about the Chaos set
4 universal bonuses on each part (count as 12)... in general, each offensive equipment give only 2 specific bonus, weapon type or family type
and let's see the others:
> one part of the Divine set doesn't give fiend bonus damage
> Radiant Silver set (the piercing/shadow armor type) doesn't have helm , only armor
> Plate set have low universal asi, but the additional normal defense doesn't help on tier 3, this set need some kind of defensive effect to work as defensive
> Mercurial set have only med msi and some shock resistance... ice queen can be more useful, in general, because give 2 status resistance and the msi bonus barely help (mercurial demo set is the same as mercurial, but instead piercing, elemental and give low bomb damage bonus)
> Scarlet Shield give 2 health bars, but this only help if you get hit... anyway it's a 3 star shield... doesn't have so much health as defensive shield (unlike the Swiftstrike, besides have low defense, have huge offensive bonus)
> Vitaplus suit Deluxe give extra health bars, but only have normal defense... if it were to function as a device to cover the kind "Medic role" had to increase the regeneration of the user when get the hearts on the ground or save some life bars when revives someone
> Turtoise Shield have extra health, but this only prolongs the time to regenerate the shield, because it have only normal defense and has no further effect, like extra knockback/status resistance, extra shield Bump force or something
...
need to explain more or is enough?
Thanks for doing this!
But... I do feel that you had the wrong question for armor UVs. I think most people either try to maximize the stats that the armor already has, so getting a piercing UV on skolver, or a shadow on skelly, or they try to get what their armor doesn't have, so elemental and shadow on skolver. The way you had that set of checkboxes set up... oh well. No big deal.
Is there a character limit? Because I have quite a lot to say.
Damn i forget to write my Spiral name on the survey T__T
thanks for the survey, I found it really fun!
I WOANT REHDON ARMOR!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ME THROW MONEY AT SCREEN BUT NOTHIN HAPPENS!!! darnit I WANT RHEDON"S ARMOR AND HELM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sezio, thanks for the laugh.
Once again, this survey was a great idea. Sometime could we have one on monsters? :P
It's really pleasing to see a survey in response to the recent onslaught of suggestions regarding very big, core issues, it really feels like a step in the right direction, but I'm here to lend a hand for those who want to pump out more detail! I've found that certain "Binaural Beats" may increase your ability to produce more detailed information and writing out feedback/responses! I've been using them for a while now and they've helped in a few areas of my life.
You can search up what they are if you want to know the specifics of "Binaural Beats" but I think this could be a way to improve "survey-takers'" feedback since the more detail people can dish out, the "better" (so it would seem, right?), but Binaural Beats have a much wider potential use than just increasing your survey response detail, although it IS one of the areas that it can help, so it may be worth looking into. The seemingly "best" ones I've found for writing out text responses are Alpha and Beta Binaural Beats, they seem to have some relevance towards producing and taking in raw information and just generally allowing more information to flow out and "onto paper", at least, that's one of the positive effects I've been able to experience while using Binaural Beats.
I've used Beta Binaural Beats a number of times to help me produce vast amounts of detail compared to my usual "half-committed" response that may be two to three slim paragraphs at best (oh how ironic when you consider the length of this very response, no I wasn't listening to them as I wrote this out as you can tell). Just thought I'd throw this out there because I know some people struggle to get a lot of detail into their responses and Binaural Beats seem to give you an above-average/heightened ability to do a plethora of different things. This could be a useful reference for future surveys but it's worth a try if you haven't already filled this survey out.
The survey is now closed.
Thanks so much to everyone who filled it out. We'll now start the task of crunching all the data and reading all the responses you've submitted.
Ack, can't fix the typo unless I clear all the responses, so it'll have to stay in.
We're asking about armor and helms separately because of the sets that do have differences.
BTW, currently 1028 people have at least started the survey, and 700 of those have completed it. If anyone reading this started but didn't finish, please do finish! Thanks. :)
