So I was watching some videos of guns on spiral knights. I went to watch a video of the shadow driver and saw it in action. It was an arena, with 2 gremlins in it, a lichen colony and 2 scuttles. At one point, I notice a gremlin mender goes up to the scuttles and it appears that it is hacking at the scuttles. Then my mind harked back to one of the updates, saying: "Menders have been scorned for hurting knights" or something close to that. Originally I thought it was just a bug that caused menders to do damage, but this video has made me unsure.

I am not exactly sure but I do remember that when t3 menders used to put up their shields or whatever, I used to get a huge push back with bunch of red colored bars falling off from me, hurting me.. but idk so many things have happened since the old days and.. once you get the good gears all you do is fsc so I do not know if there was an update "nerfing" the healers or not.

P.S. O look at that wonderful UI that player is working with ;_;

Yes, menders use to be able to attack. I guess they deemed it to overpowered or something and removed their attacks.

Yeah they did and they could leave you totally defeated too. The most deadly was when they'd thwack you with their wand... and then keep thwacking away like some crazy lumberjack until they reached a barrier of some kind. Combined with almost no telegraph time they were incredibly fustraiting.

Ahh, good times...

I don't know about their mindless flailing, but I would definitely love to see them casting Ember Bolt again.
Either that, or we need a new kind of gremlin that is a dedicated spellcaster. That'd be fun.

Not only could menders attack, they had the most unpredictable attack in the game. No windup at all, they just suddenly engaged in a 5-hit combo whacking you repeatedly over the head with their staff.

It was likely something left in from the alpha stages of the game that were never removed (there was a lot of focus on gremlins, even back then, and some of the game prototypes were pretty interesting from what I've heard)

Yup

Even in T2. Actually Thats the farthest i got before monsters were nerfed.
T2 Wolvers were scary as heck. actually T2 was kinda scary for a guy like me

This was called a bug by the developers when they released a patch to stop them from attacking.

But of course that did nothing and they were still attacking. so they had to patch it again later, saying "gremlin menders will no longer be able to attack (for real this time)"

I've been trying to remember if it took them 3 tries or if that's just my memory glitching.

I believe it was 2 tries.

First time they definitely got rid of ember bolt, and from my own experience there was still a VERY rare chance they'd start bopping at you with their wands.
Rare enough that even if you ran the clockworks very often, you'd only run into em about twice a month.

I wish they still had their ember bolt, especially when they're alone.

The whack was OP, though. No windup and had the power of a thwacker's hammer. They weren't the only thing without a windup, either...

Looks at spinning Thwackers and Zombies.

phantoms retrodes zombies they all were feared enemies and quicksilvers were actually dangerous and impossible in danger rooms

anyways menders could really upset u, like a supposed healer attacks u all of a sudden when u were feeling awesome kiting everything with ur little hp and POOM healer attacks u like a troll

those are times i already forgot. if i remember correctly poison didnt even hurt the monsters at that time, hehe...yea menders were really really really stupid

can u believe if all these nub arse nerfs rnt enough... then I heard a thread in suggestions to take out the heal shield that the t3 menders put up.... I mean lol. Before we know it the menders will get another nerf I guess xD wonder what kind of audience this game is looking for nowadays whiney 8 year old kids who like everything to be nerfed and to look shiny and "NEW".. sigh :P

@No-thanks wow.. it was so long back I almost forgot.. so true I remember in arenas, a guy running around putting down AoA while the rest of the party lay dead and horde of killer monsters at his heels.. bahahha it was wonderful xD (keyword: was)

This is pretty much the only game I've played where a mender (healer) didn't have any attacks to at least defend themselves. That shield really isn't an attack since it doesn't hurt anyone.
