From my experience with the brandish series whether you use the charge attack or not is dependent on the number of enemies.
Generally when there is a mass of enemies and you need to resort to clock-wise movement to ball them up then charging attacks works much better since it's just more damage, especially considering the multiple explosions. However if there are few enemies or you need to focus a certain one (Lichen Colonies, Menders, Butterflies, Gunpuppies) then just attacking is usually better.
On that note, I generally find that I use my Ice Brandish's charge attack more often than my Shadow Brandish's charge attack. I find that the Shadow Brandish is used more for the extra damage against prime targets who are weak to shadow (MENDERS!) so I would probably opt for an increase in attack speed, unless it is maxed.

Good points
And since i equip bomber armor, and like to bomb, it think it does make more sense to keep attack speed--as my sword will be used most effectively to clean up remaining enemies or focus down a mender in a crowd so my bombing can roll large mobs quicker.

At low, I would think neither is overly helpful. Aspd stacks with other pieces of gear to reach maximum though. If you can already reach maximum without the weapon, go for the CTR.
