Yep, that's right. If you're reading this, you're probably wondering what the buzz is all about. Everyone knows how toxic the LD community is. People blasting each other left and right for spamming and all other things. It makes one rethink of ever partaking in PvP in SK. But do not fret! There is a way to enjoy LD once more: by becoming a tank! By the time you have read this small guide, you'll be ready to enjoy LD once more.

First, we have to define some terms. What is a tank? What are safe zones? These questions are now going to be answered! A tank is a knight in LD whose sole purpose is to capture and protect his/her teammates in order to secure victory. A tank utilizes safe zones, areas affected by a crowd control effect of by a shield, in order to secure points and protect teammates. And of course, a tank goes guardian so he can create a moving safe zone to protect teammates.

Now that those are defined, let's move on how to be a tank. First off is what you need equipped as a tank. A tank generally uses high defense armors, or armors that don't really give them an edge in actual fights, because their focus is not to fight, but to protect! A tank uses heart trinkets to survive longer in the battle field. The weapons that you use as a tank will determine your fighting style. But in order to maximize a tanks effectiveness, you MUST have a melee weapon as well as a haze bomb.

For the melee weapon, it can be either fast or slow. If you choose a fast weapon, use it to interrupt opponents attacks ONLY when your shield is broken. Shielding your allies is your TOP priority, so only fight when you can no longer do so. If you use a slow weapon, you can use it to peel off dangerous opponents from allies. Be careful though, slow weapons can be interrupted by faster weapons.

For the haze bomb, choosing a bomb with good crowd control or shutdown effects will maximize your effectiveness.

Now, here are some things you MUST remember in order to be a successful tank:
1) Have the tank's frame of mind. As a tank, NEVER let the toxicity of LD get to you. NEVER. Keep calm and protect your allies!
2) Captures win games. Always tell your teammates that you intend on winning LD, not get high damage.
3) Protect your teammates with your shield! Use your shield and keep it up to protect your teammates. Remember to tell them to utilize this, since some of them do get carried away.
4) Use safe zones to protect your teammates! Deploy your haze bomb at major fighting points to help your teammates. As always, tell your teammates to utilize these safe zones to their advantage.
5) Use safe zones to secure and defend points! Use haze bombs to effectively capture points. Opponents generally don't want to be afflicted by crowd control, so they would stay away.

Thanks for reading and have fun!

Speaking of toxicity, the best bomb for a tank to bring is Venom Veiler. It'll let your shield hold longer and your allies will have little trouble dispatching of poisoned foes. In addition, noone rolls double max poison on their gear.

You are correct. VV has a great shutdown effect since most peeps in LD underestimate it too much. I use it as my main bomb whenever i got tank in LD

Hmm

You don't actually make loadout suggestions here. You give the basic philosophy of what gear to pick, but how about some suggestions? Just so those of us thinking of trying it out know what you find works well!

Being Gaurdian is fun.

but only works if you team up with another guardian or a couple of strikers are smart enough to protect you.
LoL. Having Three Guardians with their shields up healing one player... EPIC.
Dis my Guardian loadout:
Helm: Vog Cub
Armor: Skolver Coat
Weapon 1: Leviathan for quick jabs
Weapon 2: DA or GF
Trinket: 1 5* HP trinket

The point of the tank is to protect your teammates, not the other way around. You should consider having a haze bomb with you to maximize a guardian or a tank's strength.

Here's my Tank loadout

I dubbed it the "Toxic Tank"

Helm: Dragon Scale Helm with Stun max
Armor: Ancient plate mail
Weapon 1: Dread Venom Striker
Weapon 2: Venom Veiler
Trinket 1 & 2: Heart Pendants

If played correctly, you should be able to absorb a huge amount of blows.

I started an alt about a month ago just to make a Plate Tank character. Sadly, it only works when my team doesn't just strike away and leave my to fend for myself against a horde of angry pulsar-spamming Duskers/Skolvers.

Not a bad guide. I personally

Not a bad guide. I personally don't think a haze bomb is REQUIRED, but it can definitely be a big advantage. Also, to address another point you made, guards don't have to just put their shields up and keep them up until they break. There are certain scenarios when dropping the shield to get a hit in is a better strategy than blindly blocking and becoming a big glowing target. Interrupting an opponent's flow can be just as advantageous as blocking a hit for a teammate.

For some great examples of OP guardians in LD, check out either Redhawkone, or Crustycrab. Those two are some of the scariest guards playing LD fairly regularly these days, so it shouldn't be too difficult to spectate and see how they play.
Red is a beast capper/bomber, and is a team player to the very end. That's not to say he can't ruin a striker's day pretty easily.
Crusty is a more traditional skolver guard; tanky and plenty of damage.

Also, if you see him playing, check out Retequizzle. Damned good hammer guard.

P.S., also Dutch-Oven, most proficient full gunner guard there is. Sounds funny but man is it tough to take him down.

Just a couple of extra

Just a couple of extra pointers for defending allies with the Guardian shield:

- Don't huddle up too close to a teammate you're protecting; use your shield's range whenever you can. If you're too close, a large attack can hit both of you, and your shield will take double damage. A well-timed sword swing or bomb can instantly destroy a shield if enough people are within the range of both the Guardian shield and the attack. (On that note, if you're trying to attack a tank, look for opportunities to take advantage of this!)

- Your shield will not generate protection for others, or heal yourself, while you are in repeated hitstun. Don't try to wade through a haze bomb or floor trap while expecting to keep your teammates safe.
