What's this? More nonsense by the Magical Bush himself? Fear not, dear cyborg people who dwell in uv's and fashion, I am only here to suggest!

What am I going on about now? Well, I'll tell you! I have had an idea for a new boss. We shall call it The Jabberocky. Picture a large room, a single switch in the center, and a large aztec/mayan looking statue at the very front. Upon stepping on the party button, the statue, a large stone head with a large body and three mysterious slots in its large body, opens its glowing eyes.

You go up to the switch and hit it. Suddenly, the 3 slots in the chest open up, revealing a spinning wheel in each. You see, each wheel contains 6 symbols: a sword, a gun, a bomb, a helm, an armor, and a shield. You must hit the switch:once to stop one spinning wheel, one more to stop the second spinning wheel, and a third time to stop the third spinning wheel. If you manage to match all three wheels with the same symbol, the slots will close, and a wave of enemies will spawn, and during this wave, you will be able to attack the Wakea Rock, though the Wakea Rock will attack back with a AoA like that of a mist bomb, but the function of this, as well as the enemies that will spawn, will be explained later. If you do not match them up, there will be a wave of enemies, and the Wakea Rock will emit the AoA, but you will not be able to damage the Wakea Rock. In both cases you must get rid of the enemies before proceeding on and rolling the slots again, as, when matched, the Wakea Rock will become invulnerable after a certain amount of damage is taken. Once the Wakea Rock is defeated, it will drop the Stone Totem tokens, which will be explained later on as well.

As for where the boss will be located, I had remembered a suggestion thread awhile back that explained an idea for a new area called Rockbound Grove. I went looking for that thread, but could not find it, so if you can find it and link it, that would be dandy, as that would likely be the setting for this boss. In case it is not found, it is much like a jelly farm, except it was filled with more traps and puzzles, and lots and lots of rocks.

Now, the boss will be neutral to all damage types, and will deal pure normal damage, with the exception of the effects of its AoA attack. Now, the enemies will also be like this. They will be like the normal clockworks enemies, except...not quite. more statue-y. They will be neutral to all and deal pure normal, but will retain their regular attacks, with the addition of a new attack. The new attack is a smaller version of the AoA attack of the Wakea Rock. What will it do? It will emit a white mist, but glowing like that of supernove shots. This mist will linger like a mist bomb, and will deal normal damage. However, it will also inflict a random status(e.g. stun, shock, fire, freeze, curse, poison, and sleep if it ever makes a comeback.), each status will be different for each player( one could be cursed while another could be shocked). These Rocky versions will be the enemies featured in the Rockbound Grove and in the Wakea Rock fight. In addition, these rocky enemies could also show up as rare enemies replacing its normal counterparts in clockworks, missions, etc., mixing it up. These rocky enemies are meant to be a completely new type of enemy, akin to perhaps their own family, statues, and are meant to be a neutral enemy type at that.

As for the Stone Totem tokens, these will be used to purchase a couple new toys.

-15 totems: Confidential Confusion ...[ Upgrade path: Confidential Confusion 3* -> Confusing Kraze 4* ->Torrential Torment 5*]
A new bomb, 3 star. Looks like a small stone totem carved into the shape of a Moai head with glowing blue runes. 4* becomes slightly bigger, glowing green eyes. 5* becomes slightly larger, the size of a BAB about, glowing red eyes and a glowing open mouth. Emits a shiny white mist that inflicts a random status on enemies.

-20 totems: Welding Wand ...[ Upgrade path: Wilting Wand 3*-> Dismal Dryad 4* -> Loathing Lotus]
Looks like a wrench wand, but composed of brown vines in a wand shape twisting around a small yellow bud, becomes green vines around a small green flower at 4*, and white vines twisting around a bright blue flower at 5*. Regular attack is like that of the wrench wand, but the charge releases 3 glowing particles, each of which explodes when it hits something or reaches the end of its path, dealing a random status on each particle.

Whew, that was a mouthful. Anywho, if you've got any ideas or suggestions for this, just fire away! And if anybody can find the Rockbound Grove thread and post the link here, that would be great! Thanks!

Also a Normal Gun Token Prize

I love all the details of the Jabberocky, but in addition to the 3* bomb and sword, maybe a Normal, Antigua style gun that applies a random status on the charge attack? Maybe even an Alchemer style Normal gun, that applies a random status- The Gamble Driver lol

mmm

I don't like the random thing. it could be OP and UP at the same time.
think of LD. curse in LD is death. and then you can shock and fire and poison them. or the other way round. you can freeze then fire and repeat until the mist goes off.
now think at PvE. I see the rage when you can't do damage because it continuously deal the statuses your foes are. or you can fire then shock then poison them.
the rest is ok.
@slakka: antigua doesn't need that. antigua needs a piecing variant. and there are too many alchemers around. also, the random thing I explained above.

<- is dropping her own two cents and not sleeping.

I like the idea of a normal-type boss.

The name though, just doesn't seem the best only because Snarby's got his own Lewis Carrol thing going for him. Carrol references just seem like Snarby's own sillyness-thing. So, because of reasons and because you mentioned the statue'd look Aztec/Mayan-ish and I thought this totem boss' existence could be much deeper, I looked up names and came up with Wakea Rock (wa-KEH-uh). 'And when I thought about it, it kinda fits! Not just because you'd literally be whacking a rock ("Rock whacking run." Say that ten times fast) but because Wakea is... a Hawaiian god/deity/person, a god of the sky who helped father the earth. This could slide right into the side of the mishmash of SK lore and naming because -- what if inside the rock boss was a piece of a large spirit?
Backing up a few steps, what if there used to be a huge-arse spirit that reigned over the planet? Some gremlins and/or owlites managed to harness the power of the spirit to empower things, to make things, and to grow things. They harnessed an unbelievably huge chunk of that power into the core, but bits of that spirit escaped, and wherever those bits leaked to, plants grew as if responding to that life force. This could also explain the presence of the blocky stone heads you see randomly in those grassy beast levels. Also, whenever you shot a stone head relic found randomly in those grassy beast levels, the head would only dropping crowns in thanks for your feeble attempts to free its piece of spirit back into the atmosphere, back into the sky. The totem boss itself could be a broken but dangerous failed invention the gremlins/owlites left behind in their primitive experimentation to create weaponry through alchemy, and our ventures down to this boss would be, of course, to investigate and shut it off. When you break down the totem boss though... you release a fresh new batch of burnable mist into the atmosphere for all knights on cradle. :o
Ha, never mind the name now. I think this boss would already have a great, reasonable backstory to fit in with the other bosses. x)

If the totem-boss is fat too, then it'd totally fit in. Or maybe he could be small and fat like Trojans or Arkus. Would this boss lumber around or sit there and protect itself at times like a battlepod? Would he have to be a really fat target with lotsa health to be a major boss? Can he be a sub-boss like Arkus?

A mist that constantly deals normal damage somehow would be a bit draining on all knight's health though. I keep imagining a field-blanketing mist, but I'd like to see it snake fast across the ground instead. 'just to inject a bit of suspense and to give surefooted elite players a chance to fight without taking a pip of damage. Stages... each boss has to have stages, right? where'll we go with that...

'and about the random status effect -- for the weapons themselves, I'd rather they deal one random status effect at a time. 'kinda like the sealed sword's own charge attack. I can't remember why right now, why I think that'd be better for reasons, but I should get some sleep. hm, shooting rolling rocks dfgjhnmdfg

Apart from the name and random status infliction, I'm all for it. It seems to "fit in" with the (rather misunderstood) current significance Mayans have with 2012 and in the spiritual community.

I think Mayan/Aztec statues would really fit in with the graphic style of Spiral Knights since they're not greatly detailed per say, but you can definitely get some elaborate designs going which would be nice to see since the original artwork was so brilliant.

When you mentioned it I was picturing an Egyptian/Aztec/Mayan statue, I think Egyptians would fit very well too, if the the Cradle and Clockworks are supposed to be a mysterious, age-old stronghold then I think it'd be interesting to get the whole "ancient" unearthing theme going.

Maybe the gear/equipment that are purchasable through the token system could each have one of the heads of: Ra, Hathor, Osiris, Horus, Isis, Thoth and Anubis? Just a little idea that could add a real "theme" to the items.

As for the boss, I suggest a Pharaoh/Aztec/Mayan hybrid or a mix of one, two or three of those? The levels could be heavily desert/sand/stone based and three rings could add an animation where we "kick up" dirt when we perform dash/shield bash, that'd be a nice little addition :p

Maybe implement an elite version of the rock jelly mob and have spawners repeatedly spawn elite version rock jellies, maybe they could have a heavy peice of rock attached to them and sand falling off trailing behind them? I'm thinking the Rock Jellies could have a very "mini-Shadow-of-the-Colossus" feel maybe?

All in all, I reckon as long as we don't slap the random status idea onto this boss without thinking, there's a plethora of other ideas that could make the boss more fun and challenging and be a real fresh chunk of content to chew on for maybe Tier 3 players?

We have:
Snarbolax - T1
Twins - T2
Royal Jelly - T2
Vanaduke -T3
And then the Shadow Lair variants of those.

It would seem like T1 is most lacking in content because Snarbolax gave rise to some interesting items, but a large portion of the playerbase has either switch to PvP or started working on Prestige in Danger Missions because PvE is so stale at the moment in Tier 3, I think extending the potential for Tier 3 will bring a lot of the "older" player back and rebolster the playerbase, the people who find it too difficult will leave by their own will but the new (I hate using this word lately) "veterans" will most likely stay if the content is fun, challenging and profitable because it gives rise to new content: the Aztec boss, new gear and new abilities give rise to open opportunities to transform and improve combat providing a "Shield Bash" and "Dash" to increase the pace of combat and keep the fight exciting.

I think if done "right", this could really revive Spiral Knights and it's fanbase, I think it's a brilliant idea and really fits in with whats going on in the world AND in Spiral Knights. I think Three Rings have established the train track and the general course of their actions but are still open to people making brilliant and original suggestions. Both people on planet Earth are waking up to the truth and realizing much more than ever before, the Spiral Knights Community is concerned for the game and want it to excel and our very own species is concerned for our own survival. The involvement that the Mayans/Egyptians have had recently regarding certain events is just a plus, they've had a big part in the recent "goings on" surround the events of 2012 so a new Tier 3 Egyptian/Mayan-themed stratum/boss/gear would fit right in.

Took a shot at the Wilting

Took a shot at the Wilting Wand: http://oi40.tinypic.com/5e7gph.jpg

BUT I can't say I'm too happy with the idea, looking back on it. It doesn't mesh well with the rest of the steel and iron swords we use. Not that breaking tradition is exactly a BAD thing, now.

@Slakkalicious: Eh, I don't

@Slakkalicious: Eh, I don't think an antigua style gun would fit for this. I would suggest the confetti alchemer that was suggested awhile back, but I can't seem to find that thread either.

@Thunder-The-Bright: The reason I chose the random status was that it is a new, fairly unthought of idea. With enemies that can deal any current status at random, this will make them unpredictable and more risky to handle, adding a new element to the game, as the game is growing progressively too easy. That will make it trickier for opponents to make guess work in LD, as with the bomb and wand you will be able to inflict the random status on opponents. For PvE concerns, the stacking statuses could be a bit of a problem, but with the unpredictability of the bomb, it won't be too OP as many players might find it not as reliable as the other mist bombs, as you won't be able to rely on any one status. The purpose of these two new weapon lines is to have similar functions to the charge of the sealed sword, which is really quite neat in that regard.

@Blind-Frog: Now that I think about it, The making the weapons deal only one status with each charge like the sealed sword makes sense as they are meant to serve similarly to the sealed sword, as I stated above. That's a really neat little backstory you have going on there. Cradle's gotta have some sort of history, right? And the sentients had to start off from somewhere, right? Also, I believe the Wakea Rock is a much better name than what i had thought up, and I'd imagine it to be a large immobile statue probably the size of vana or so. The Fight would have 4 or 5 phases, but could have alot more, depending on your ability to line the symbols up, so it would require only 4 or 5 matches worth of damage to it to be beaten. I suppose that with each match, more and harder statue enemies spawn, as well as possibly shaking of the statue with rocks falling down on the field? Also, I'll edit the title and use your name for it. Wakea Rock...I like it!

@Razorlined: I was thinking of a mayan/aztec feel, but egyptian would work too, as well as olmec even. I was picturing it being a grassy open field, with a lot of rocks and boulders scattered, maybe some stone heads, or stacks of rocks here and there. Though, if we were to go with the sand route, there could be quicksand traps, and perhaps a quicksand lichenish enemy.

@Alphastevo: Thanks! That's just how i pictured them looking! Also, there's a first time for everything, and these more natural looking swords/wands could open some other options for other potential new weapon ideas.

Thanks for all the feedback and review guys! I really appreciate it!

IN response to the updated

IN response to the updated bombs, I have provided SPRITES.

However, I designed them to basically be those little stone heads found around Beast levels.

Without further ado, here we are! (pretend the later two look bigger)

It'd be nice to get more of an explanation behind those statueheads, anyhow!
