What the hell? Is it a fishing pole? There's another one on the sheath. It doesn't even fit!

Who knows, maybe it's the battery of darkness that gives it its shadow damage.

Reminds me of a fishing pole too. I was wondering why it was designed so different from the other two Brandish-crafted 5 stars.

I'm with Lilliath.

You will notice that it does look suspiciously like a darkstone colored energy symbol, and for a solid reason, not to say good reason, for there is little that can be called good in this evil blade. Personally, I would say that the fiendish device that you question is the source of stygian powers of destruction, but.... I suppose that... 'battery of darkness', uncouth a phrase as it may be and belittling the shadow forces that bring this blade its name, still, it is an accurate phrase nonetheless.

From Wikipedia:

From Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acheron

In ancient Greek mythology, Acheron was known as the river of pain, and was one of the five rivers of the Greek underworld. In the Homeric poems the Acheron was described as a river of Hades, into which Cocytus and Phlegethon both flowed.[1][2]

The Roman poet Virgil called it the principal river of Tartarus, from which the Styx and Cocytus both sprang.[3] The newly-dead would be ferried across the Acheron by Charon in order to enter the Underworld.

So if you think of Acheron as a 'river of pain', then that thing near the hilt of the sword would be the source of the river. So a good guess would be that whatever is powering the sword is located there.

An identical symbol is on the back of the collar. The "purple energy symbol." (Though it could just be that this player's Personal Color happened to be purple.)
