Mouse jumps to upper left corner

From time to time my mouse cursor will jump up to the upper left hand corner of the screen. No rhyme or reason, and it does not do it when I'm not in Spiral Knights. This can be very annoying when I have my weapon charged and it points me in the opposite direction right before I release my shot.

Please see what you can do to fix this. Thanks.

More information

I have more information on this issue: The mouse jumps occur when a fellow player is killed. It may also indicate damage to fellow players, and not just death. It's hard to tell exactly though without testing... and who want's to be killed for science?

This must be caused by the newly released mouse feature that puts the mouse focus on text in conversations with NPC's. I'm not sure what this is focusing my mouse on, but it is unbelievably annoying in the middle of combat!

Greetings,

There might be an odd keybinding left over if you had custom controls set before the new control options came out. Have you tried resetting your controls to one of the defaults and then re-assigning any custom controls you may use?

@Helios

Thanks for the response, I will give that a shot, and post back with the results.

more info

So I tried the tip you gave. No dice. I think this has something to do with running with an ALT. My primary account is on Steam, but I have a secondary account that I run in the standalone version of SK. When the standalone knight dies or is revived, my mouse jumps to the corner. I would imagine that very few people have this problem, but I would be curious to see if it did this on anyone else' computer.

It is when an alt dies or is given a health revive

Yes, it does this on my computer too. When I bring an alt or both, when one dies or is given a revive, my mouse cursor always jumps to a random point on the computer screen. Since I use windowed mode, it can often jump outside of the current window, which makes it even that much more annoying and potentially deadly. It never happened before the big UI update, but since that update, it happens every time. It is very disruptive to the gameplay.

A while back, I sent an in-game bug report about this. But I fear this may never be fixed because bringing an alt isn't really the normal way to play, and may not be supported by the game developers (even though it isn't against the TOS, and is common, especially amongst advanced players). I even wonder if this is intentional, to discourage players from dragging an alt through a level or mission.

That's fair

@Zevier: Thanks for sharing about your experience. This started after the UI update, for sure. I also fear that this is not something that will be fixed. Although, now that I know what it is, it's pretty easy to avoid... just make sure the ALT dies at a convenient time, and not in the middle of combat. At first I didn't know what was going on, and it was rather disturbing, but now that I know, it's not as big a deal. I would still love to see it fixed though... as I play this game a lot... almost 800 hours on my main.

Greetings,

I do see what you mean with the mouse grabbing. This seems to be a side effect of the "snap to" events that were added where the mouse now defaults to a dialogue prompt when it is the most important thing on screen (like Advance or Revive). One client is grabbing mouse focus from the other since multiple game instances on the same computer isn't an expected play style. I'm not sure if it's possible for this behavior to be altered.

Thanks for your help :)

"since multiple game instances on the same computer isn't an expected play style"

As soon as I found out that this was caused by 'another' SK client, I figured it would not be on any priority list. That's acceptable.

Thanks for your help on this ticket!

Cheers,
Yvanblo
