I freakin' LUUUUURRRRRVVVVE this game, and the only problem I have is that when I'm playing with other people, I can't talk to them or squee about the awesomeness.
I can understand not having it in the Over-world (Haven), but with just four people in a dungeon, I can't even tell a new player what kind of enemies to kill first or have any social interaction what-so-ever.
It's hard to destroy the beasts of the underworld and type at the same time.
So! Being as this is a new enough game that my voice(<--) might be heard, I would humbly like to ask for a rudimentary voice chat system.
I am lonely and want verbal interaction.

NO, not unless I can

NO, not unless I can COMPLETELY turn it off. If you would like to talk to buds, I recommend skype. It's what I do XD.

That is something I forgot to

That is something I forgot to mention. Of course, it would have to be optional, And I can't collect all the Skype names of people I play with! Sometimes I want to make new friends.
P.S Gee, I wonder why you, The God of Skype, of all people; would recommend Skype. That's just uncanny.

Please don't. I don't want to

Please don't. I don't want to have to decide between missing half the conversations going on around me and having my brain slowly dissolve and come out of my ears as a stinking goo. While the internet has been training us for decades to ignore "content" that we don't want to see/read, the auditory part of my brain really isn't quite prepared for such a job just yet and might never be.

Make it happen

Voice chat is almost a necessity if you want to actually talk to the people in your party. Unless you're sitting with full 5* gear in T1 and can sit there like an open punching bag for the monsters for 3-10 seconds, talking is almost a forbidden act.
"No, don't open the gate with the treasure boxes first, there are enemies to kill in the others!" *Types* "Ugh! Too late..."
While this is an unlikely scenario, it's not too far away from reality. Strategizing for bosses mid-fight is also a possibility that's opened up with voice chatting. I find this extremely useful, but I don't have every person in the world added to my Skype, so I can't really make a call with my party if there's stuff to say.
"Say it when the fight is over," you might say, but sometimes those are the times you may want to say something. I've found myself in that position too many times.

I say this should be implemented. You could have an option to enable your microphone to let you use voice chat, and you could have an option to mute voice chat if you find the others chatting annoying or if you simply don't want to take part in it. And don't remember the volume controls for voice chat, a lack of such a vital control setting is fatal.

With that said, I give this suggestion topic a plus - let's hope this one isn't sent to the Graveyard.

But really...

Wouldn't that be the same as telling your party to download Skype so you can talk to them? I disapprove of your link. What we need is an in-game feature that does not require the player to download a third-party software for enabling voice chat function.

this is a foolish idea the

this is a foolish idea ...the time and materials OOO would need vastly outweigh the benefits it would provide. all in all OOO would lose money for the upkeep of the service

what happens if the players dont play with sound for what ever reason or dont have a mic?

the keyboard chat is good enough if u dont want to use a pure voice chat service like skype than thats fine but dont expect OOO to do it

If voice chat is added to the game I'll simply permanently disable it, and that will cause problems with idiots who demand that I turn it back on.

Add it

Voice chat will be useful for this dungeon crawling centered game.

From what I've heard, Monkeyman has hit the nail on the head. Even if they WANTED to subject everyone to having to disable the new feature to avoid whining kids, it would be a money sink.

Besides, if the party won't stop and chat with you when you say "HEY GAIS PLAN IS THIS" then you're better off going solo anyway. Saves ya time and energy.

I find the text chat to quite

I find the text chat to quite suitable enough.

Voip is a very expensive thing to implement.

Following reasons why I do not wish to have voice chat of any kind;

1. Too expensive to build and maintain
2. Voice chat makes you lazy, aren't we lazy enough?
3. People will abuse it and mic spam.
4. People will forget it's on.
5. It will ruin the awesome soundtrack this game has.
6. I will disable it just like I do in TF2.
7. The majority of people seem to play this on a laptop or netbook and built-in mics SUCK.
8. Most people's mics suck.

And the last and very most important. In any game where they have a built-in Voip system, the quality is extremely lack luster compared to that of Skype, Vent, or Mumble. I know some of you desire to speak with one another via mic, but the quality will just be sooo bad. I have been using Skype for um...5,6,7 years? idk it's been a dang long time. I can't even stand to use a cellphone because the quality is just so horrid.

Skype is simply not workable

Skype is simply not workable for a game based on pick-up groups. Making people trade contact information at the start of each run would render the whole thing meaningless.

A native chat system would be the way to go. With improved communication, players could better coordinate strategies and the average competence of the playerbase would go up. Let the devs decide if it's too costly to implement - maybe it turns out it's easy and they really would like it in game.

Add an opt-out feature in the menu and at the gate select that allows you to choose whether or not to join groups that use mics (Just like you can currently opt out of multi-language groups) and everyone plays happy. Skype and Onmy can play with text-only groups as they please, and the rest of us can enjoy improved socialization during otherwise dull Jelly King runs.

@sirniko

you're seeing this too narrowly as i said before money is the issue, OOO would need to implement and maintain all voice chat equipment which could be an unnecessary risk for them.

and as another person said even if it were to be implemented most people would turn it off and the quality would be horrendous

One thing advocates of voice

One thing advocates of voice chat forget is once there is this option, even if you can turn it off you'll probably get kicked for doing so.

Once there's a voice chat going on, you have no option but to listen to whatever breathing, mind farting others wanna do, otherwise they have a great excuse to kick you out.

I agree with

I agree with OnmyojiOmn.

Voice Chat would be a waste of resources. Go download Skype, Mumble, Ventrilo, Teamspeak, etc...they all do it already.

I remember when WoW devoted resources to putting in in-game voicechat. It was terrible. Within a day or two everybody went back to using the above programs.

I want stuff from SK that other games/services don't offer. Duplicating features is a waste.

Is there really anything in this game that requires that much communication? I have yet to encounter anything in T3 that reasonably intelligent players couldn't figure out and work co-operatively with little or no communication. It just takes some common sense and awareness.

But do I want pre-teens screaming in vent or running their mouths at me? Do I want to be victim of broad vulgarities because I screwed up and got hit by fire? No. If I wanted those things, I'd be playing Xbox Live with a headset on.

Umm

I dont think Spiral Knights will add voice chat since well it would be pretty hard to add that to this game, but you can find your own ts, mumbe, or vent server. For my guild we have our own mumble server for friends and guild mates....we have like 200 or 250 spots....I mean it works great, but from what I see a lot of people dont tend to use it much....when I use it I usually tend to die since I am talking and killing during Firestorm which isnt the smartest thing when trojans are attacking you lol.....but Audio Chat does make this game very fun I have to admit I hate doing runs without audio chat now a days.

1. why? 2. what? 3. Whatever,

1. why?
2. what?
3. Whatever, mute is an easy fix.
4. Not if they plan on using it.
5. Well that's up to you, voice chat is non-invasive and is implemented often with a fader on the music track.
6. --
7. Plenty of people have terrible mics they've gone and bought, not a problem with the feature itself.
8. "Most" is a big word.

I actually searched for this to make sure I wouldn't be suggesting something like this twice. Voice in a game like this would be pretty great since it's designed for team-play and cooperation. I realize the way people use mics in your favorite games (shooters, namely) often don't use mics to great effect but that's most often a result of the community and not simply because they have a mic.

I'd be really interested to hear dev response to this, I realize it hasn't even been mentioned in your feature lists but it could easily be the best part of this game.

Oh and to be clear, I think it would only be enabled within a party or perhaps guilds. No reason to have hundreds of people spouting off at the same time.

1. its expensive to get the equipment for voice chat then they need to make accommodations such as a place to put it all and finally the upkeep to maintain the equipment like electricity and scheduled maintenance

2. i think he's saying chatting like that makes you forget how to type

3. doesnt that defy the point of have a voice chat feature to start with?

4. if it were like that they can simply use teamspeak, mumble, skype, ventrilo

5. no comment

6.nothing to say

7. and 8. can be bundled into voice quality sucks and this can be either the user or the voice equipment companies like to skim by on the bare minimum they can get. in game voice chats are notorious for having poor quality voice chat.

SK is f2p telecommunication is expensive i doubt OOO will ever implement for the simple reason is that they can't afford to

I highly doubt that it's

I highly doubt that it's prohibitively expensive. Also I'd rather not continue hearing about that issue unless a dev addressed it. Voice chat is a common form of communication so it would make sense that it be implemented into the game itself. Most people aren't playing in high-level groups that buy their own servers so finding communication among peers within the game, for me anyway, sounds fair.

Adding a voice chat component

Adding a voice chat component might increase lag, and no one wants that.
Mumble and similar programs are low-bandwith, but SK may not be able to create AND host voice chat on their servers without creating problems.

I guess that voice chat would be nice to have as an option, but it probabaly isn't worth the effort. I'd rather that they just put in some cutsom macros, like how you hit numpad... (5 i think?) to yell for help.
