Has there been anybody who has gone into the clockworks and did an entire run or did a boss fight without the help of a shield? So far I'm the only person I know that has done such a thing. First time I did it was early last year when I soloed the Firestorm Citadel and Vanaduke without one. I did not die fighting Vanaduke but it took 16 minutes because of the old annoying slags and deadnaughts on that last phase. Fighting without a shield isn't that dangerous if you are good at evading and timing attacks.

I want to know how many people have attempted this and how well did it go. If you want to show how good you are that you do not need a shield then go ahead. Not involving Lockdown because we all know strikers and recons do not have one.

no, but Proto Shield

I've never done FSC without a shield, but as I recall lots of people have done it with Proto Shield. In fact, FSC is manageable with Proto helmet, suit, and shield. FSC gets really hard when you try to do it with Proto weapons as well.

Well, it doesn't exactly become extremely difficult when you use Proto Weapons, it's just going to take a really REALLY (really, really, really, really)

I use a Sudaruska. Not equipping a shield is a silly idea because it's equivalent to carrying around an Attack Speed Decrease: Maximum!

I once did an FSC duo run with a guildmate armed only with my trusty Valiance. He had mostly 4* gear (heating), no blitz or shiver in particular. We managed to get through the dungeon with no revives, but died a lot (~8 total) in the boss fight before finally making it to the core. I've also done the other bosses shieldless by accident when joining friends straight from Lockdown, since my loadouts for that don't have shields, and there have been plenty of times when I've ditched my shield for lulz in the clockworks. To my knowledge, I haven't soloed any dungeon shieldless, though.

The biggest disadvantages to being shieldless are not being able to cancel or bump. Small-combo weapons are very risky to use without being able to cancel, and not being able to bump means that any truly sticky situations you get yourself into will definitely kill you. A fast-ish weapon with knockback (Valiance from my above example, for instance) helps to mitigate these things.

I often did Basil runs without shield, without dying, because shield here is not needed.
Now I care some more about time and I use swiftstrike, cuz non shield have no bounses, but playing with swift and no shield is really big diffrence.

OOO should add some bonuses for non shield. Not must be big. :o

Funny enough, I was thinking this the other day. Technically carrying a shield around with you would weigh you down so may adding a Movement Speed Increase if the shield slot is empty would be a nice buff to have; its not too overpowered in PvE and makes sense in both real life and the game world. This wouldn't apply in PvP since your shield slot would be filled with your class ability.

Take SSB for example; it's ASI High is just one of those things that every game has, developers put gear in the game that maybe wasn't meant to be used so much but because of it's effects/bonuses/abilities, people jsut seem to gravitate towards it and it becomes a "popular" option, but why stop there, why not add shield slot items like Smoke Bombs, Parry blades that return damage to the attacker etc. your shield slot doesn't HAVE to be used an a defensive slot right? I mean, the Dash and Shield Bash will add some variety to combat along with Battle Sprites that may or may not break the game lol.

Sometimes i'll try for a dauntless diver no shield run (solo). That's if I have a elevator pass, but I do not have one at the moment.

I broke my wrist in Nov of last year and re-broke it in Jan. I was in a cast for a mighty long time. I did everything without a shield for months. Now, everyone keeps yelling at me, "USE YOUR SHIELD!!! Habits are so hard to break.

Well then......

I used to not use shields, but I eventually learned how important they were and how to correctly use them (by myself :P). But every once in a while I find some guy who doesn't believe in shield use, and ends up killing the team. I just love showing off how good a shield is once they're dead. But if anything, I am not the type of person who does a boss run without a shield (unless I'm to busy using the charge attack).

Sometimes I forget to equip a shield and dodge with the WRH dash, flying across the map, spreading the enemies everywhere.
People tend to kick me from parties when it happens....

Sorry Master Shuichi...

I started this at night when I was tired and had a bit of a headache so I forgot about my own guildies and you. But I was the only one in the guild to solo FSC without a shield with one unfortunate death which I think was on depth 27.

Anyway I'm just saying that doing a depth run without a shield would be a challange, especially to experienced players like Vokster for example. This is something that most people won't do.

Sure using a proto shield is slightly like not using one because it is so weak but like what Arguebus said about no shield bumping and weapon canceling, it is what gives us the challenge. You might take damage more often but if you have quick thinking, use your weapons right, and know how to keep your foes at bay then it shouldn't be a big problem.

I haven't done this in a long time and I plan on attempting it again, although I'm not sure about soloing FSC and Vanaduke again without a shield. In some way, I'm turning myself into a guinea pig and testing how difficult it is to fight monsters without one.

some bosses are quite easy to do shieldless(snarby and RT) but with stuff like JK, there's just too many minions, so stuffs and stuffs. If someone does a SL including unknown passage but not including follow up levels no shield, I will pay them 1000 CE

Now that's what I'm talking about! That is the kind of thing that would be a good challenge for experienced players. I bet it took that guy several attempts to get that. When I first did that I only had a Dragon Scale Helm, Vog Cub Coat, Divine Avenger, and Polaris with no trinkets. I didn't have a Blitz Needle at the time so the Polaris took forever.

@Shotjeer- I don't think anybody can do a Shadow Lair run without a shield and not die a lot. When the turrets appear, that would be the worst time to not have one unless you can stay really far from them. Plus there's too many enemies in one small place. Although it is possible to do it without one if you are accompanied by others because a guy named Kyrb did it along with no weapons.

i never have my shield equipped in haven for cosmetic reasons

so i do this all the time on accident when i get invited to a party

i'm glad they added the arsenal stations because they prevent 90% of my accidental no-shield runs

I've actually done a lot of no shield runs.

I've done every regular prestige mission with no shield and every Danger mission with Swiftstrike Buckler.

If you charge most of your stuff, it's pretty easy, especially with guns or bombs.

Back then..

Before the Heatlh Trinkets patch, I used to play without shield all the time.

Dunno why but without shield I saw more love puppy than my whole SK life (and more weps drop)... so when I realize that.. I just get used to play without shield... but when the health trinkets patch came out, there were no reason for me to do it..

Dunno if had something to do or not, but I did it anyway.

Perhaps you should make a new forum thread, proposing that the ability to wield two weapons at once should be added to the game. The proper forum for such a thread is General Discussion. An appropriate title for such a thread is "Hey". It is not necessary to go into any detail about how the idea would work, or how it would affect the game balance, or how it would work with bombs. Just make sure to say something to the effect that "it would be cool", and everyone will recognize the idea's value.

I'm just saying that when I used to fight without a shield was for that reason. I remember before the health trinkets patch, we used to spawn at least 1 puppy per day with my brother Danyx, and at least one wep / gear drop at week.. but HEY !.. that was more than one year ago.

Back then in old school LD, we were a few with Health Trinkets.. Finnesse, some knightmare, a few other players, me and my brother Danyx.

We used to do FSC or JK trying to spawn more love puppy.. and in fact.. I'm quite sure we saw more luvs puppys in one month than any other player in a SK life..

I made my first million thanks to that.. and the second.. and the third...

Right now, I play with shield, because I have no reason to do it without.. and I get bored fast in FSC or any other PVE.

Challenge?

Naaa, there's no challenge in PVE.

@Dragneel.. Post a picture of you doing it like I did on my LD challenges, and offer a good amount to incentivate, and for sure I'll do it.

That just proved that you are scared from doing these challenges, and that you are only a LD Player. PvE is the main body of the game, not PvP.

This also proves how clueless you are about Clockworks and Arcade. Stop doing missions and think you are good in PvE if you did them without dying, Clockworks are more challenging, but you'll never know that because you are scared.
