I feel like this should be here, and since I haven't seen anyone else do it I'm going to. Before this, let me just say that this is a rough edit of what I first typed, and I simply removed most of the profanity rather than using different words, so there might be some things that are a bit choppy.

Lets start of with an FAQ sort of thing, and even though you haven't asked anything yet, these are things I'm pretty sure you are going to ask.

1) Why do we need a Code of Chivalry?

We're supposed to be knights, not random mercenaries going around with our heads stuck up our butts(Though I really wonder with some people)

2) Why are you doing this? Do you think you're better than the rest of us?

Read the first part before asking a question

3) Where did you get the real Code of Chivalry summarized from?

It's a secret

4) Why is it the Code of Chivalry rather than the Code of Bushido?

There are only a few ways in this game for a knight to be able to commit suicide

5) When are we going to actually read what we came here for?

NOW!

In case anyone here is unfamiliar with the Code of Chivalry in history, it was what all Knights had to follow during the Medieval Ages. The code can be summarized to the following:

1) Believe the Church's teachings and observe all the Church's directions.

2) Defend the Church.

3) Respect and defend all weaknesses.

4) Love your country.

5) Do not recoil before an enemy.

6) A single coward could discourage an entire army. Even if the knights knew death was near, they would rather die fighting than show weakness.

7) Show no mercy to the Infidel. Do not hesitate to make war with them.

8) Perform all duties that agree with the laws of God.

9) Never lie or go back on one's word.

10) Be generous to everyone.

11) Always and everywhere be right and good against evil and injustice.

All these things can be adapted to fit the game, and that's what this post is all about.

1) Follow the Terms of Service

2) Report people who don't follow the Terms of Service

3) Respect, just in general have respect

4) Be loyal to your guild, don't steal from the storage or things like that

5) (lesser) Try not to fight like a coward in either the Clockworks, Lockdown, or Blast Network

6) (lesser) When fighting with a team, don't leave them to be killed

7) (lesser) If it's attacking you, it's an enemy. If it's an enemy, fight it

8) Again, follow the Terms of Service

9) Never lie or go back on one's word

10) (lesser) Try not to be too cheap, but you do not have to give away all your money to beggars

11) Be a good person

If we could all try our best to follow these rules, the community of this game would overall be a lot better. If you see people doing this, don't praise them for it, because it should be made second nature to follow these rules. If you see someone going against these rules, lead them to this post or tell them yourselves. We need all of you to create a better environment for this game!

Now, I guess it's too bad no one would care or even bother if we told them to follow this thread.
The community has gone down the tubes.

1) That isn't up for you to decide. If I want to break the ToS and face the consequences, I should be able to.
2) That isn't my job, nor should it be. I have nothing to do with the ToS.
3) Respect for what? And why should I?
4) Dogs are loyal.
5) What purpose would that serve? Wouldn't it just make me play badly for no reason?
6) Why not? If I don't want to play the game at that point in time, I'm not going to. I will leave parties when I want to.
7) Doesn't that go against point 3? If someone 'attacks' me on the forum, should I show them 'respect' or hostility?
9) When everyone else is going to?
10) It isn't your business whether or not I spend my money.
11) "good" implies being better than others, and that is something that I am unwilling to do.

@fehzor

obviously, you don't have to follow that. there are plenty of traitors, beggars and all around trolls out there that will disagree with this code.
with that, I decleare: that is a good thing sir, but many people will not follow that. what now?

Take off your mask. Then show us your Smile.

Interesting list. My thoughts:

1) Fair enough. Common sense, but fair enough.
2) Fai- wait, what? Do we put a Peacemaker towards everyone's heads?
3) Isn't this in the ToS?
4) What about the Guildless?
5) I'm not sure how we can show fear...
6) Well, that can be taken several ways as Fehzor proved.
7) Same as 6, albeit a bit more applicable.
8) Again?
9) I thought this was common decency.
10) I'm not sure what you expect me to do here.
11) Ok, this is a) common decency and b) straightforward with no room to twist the meaning.

@Immortous

Why are you bringing me into this?
I try everyday to help make this a better community, to try and raise the bar and to encourage others to do the same. I tired to be fun, entertaining and generous/help guilies? I just dumped thousands of CE and 50K in crns helping my guildies two nights ago.

Very well put Lightyourfire. Thank you.

You would have us adhere to these convoluted ideas of honor and chivalry?
and the code of bushido? ever heard of the atrocities at nanking?

All you did was put labels on common sense, morals and restrictions on free will.

You can't stop undesirable behaviour because of anonymity and limited accountability

While it's true we need people to follow this Code or these rules, yet I see no reason for you to post it and make Spiral Knights into a Knighthood.
Actually, I am seeing the ToS here, just in a different writing-style plus some obvious morals that everyone should've already know it if their parents have really raised them correctly.

Oh, and about Rule:2 in your code: "2) Report people who don't follow the Terms of Service"
Well, I have bad news for you. Go report all of your guildies and friends for using alts in their runs. Or report the people who give accessibility to their account to other people. Oh wait! And don't forget to report the people who use alts to get a higher bid on their items on AH. The list will go on, and you will see yourself reporting all your in-game relatives.

You can do better than that Lightyourfire.
