I don't want this post to be too drawn out, but at the same time I want to know that i'm the only person not feeling this way.
I found out about this game through Ian Mcconville, the art director of this game. I really love the art style of this game and it's one of the main reasons I was attracted to it (that and the awesome music). I gathered my best buddies and told them that we should give this game a shot. We partied up and went through the dungeons and were having a grand old time, laughing as the last person alive frantically ran around to revive his teammates. When we started getting serious about the game, actually trying to progress through it, we found that it was becoming more and more lack luster. My friends no longer had the patience to grind Jelly King to get enough marks for their Seal Swords, they didn't want to waste their Crystal Energy so they'd just log off and wait for their Mist to refill. Eventually they just dropped it altogether, and so did I.
This was back when the game first came out. I recently came back to it alone because none of my friends wanted to touch this game ever again (they said it was just grinding for gear.) It looks a lot more polished than before, but I feel like it's still the same thing. No little patches made this game feel any less than a multiplayer Castle Crashers.
Spiral Knights feels like it's still in its beta. I feel like it needs MORE. Something DRASTIC. Maybe have classes and skills, something other than having the game revolving around gear. I don't know a way around the whole Mist/Crystal Energy problems because i'm sure the developers have to have some sort of income (especially since not many people play this.)
I don't know what I'm suggesting. I just want this game to do well, or at least better than it's doing now. I wanted to get into an MMO, but i don't feel like this is an MMO.
I guess i'll play Ragnarok Online 2 or something
Castle Crashers? That's the first think you think of when you play this game? Well, in that case you're SK's target audience! Congratulations!
Unfortunately, this is the kind of game that needs a 10 dollar investment before you start playing. I actually had to fund my friends when I first played by buying one of those packs to split among 4 people. That's the only solution I can give you, because you'd have to be pretty dedicated to go pure f2p and grind for your gear...
