defense or elemental which one is more essential to use because so far I have alot of elemental defense but my health goes down alot when i get hit.
Defense or Elemental
Everything except pierce dmg can be called "essential" the thing is if you look carefully at your hp bars that falling off your character after beeing hit by an "attack" its not unusal that the attack is splitted in normal AND elemental damage or in normal AND shadow damage that means stacking high elemental def or stackin normal def only will leave a big opening in ur defence so try to get a good balance of both or maybe of all 3 common dmg types that are normal/elemental/shadow.
Whenever you take damage, health bars will fall off of you, indicating what type of damage you took..
Red bars = Normal Damage
Green Bars = Elemental Damage
Purple Bars = Shadow Damage
Yellow Bars = Piercing Damage
When an enemy is about to make an attack, an aura apears by its feet (base) with the coresponding colors..
And also. the Defense bars (on the armor info screen) is marked by a icon colored in its damage type color..

In the left picture the knight takes Normal damage.
In the right picture the knight takes both Normal and Elemental damage.
Wow thanks for everyones help I basically went full out on divine equipment including the owlite shield, so my owlite shield is my only line of defense when it comes to normal damages. I love the look but I'm going to have to change it to a more evenly distributed set now that I'm educated on this matter xD.
Just make one piece of Skelly or Angelic and swap it in when you think you need shadow res.
If you're trying to compare normal defense to elemental, it depends on what you're being hit by. In general, though, almost everything does normal damage, so that should have a high priority, if not the highest. More enemies seem to do elemental than the other damage types, followed by shadow then piercing. In the end, however, depending on what you're doing, and what types of enemies you have the most trouble with, and what armor bonuses you want, you may choose to get different armor accordingly.
Also, what tier you are in can change it, as I think at least 90% of tier 1 damage is normal, while tier 3 you start seeing enemies hit with attacks that are 0% normal. At least that's what I've been seeing, please correct me if I'm wrong.
