We say that when one is resurrected by another member of the party, 30% of one's heat is given to this person. Just where did we get this number?
30%
From the top of our heads.
A more serious theory: it's as close to a third as is reasonable. Probably.
EDIT: what Bopp said.
Developers.
You can check the history of the wiki articles. Oldest revisions, created by Aphrodite and Cory mention this number.
They weren't made up by players.

Oh, that makes sense. How interesting that they'd reveal some technical info to us! Thankies!
I've heard 30%, but I've also recently heard 55%, which might be closer to the truth.
Heuristic estimate:
Each death/rev you give 0 < y < 1 of your heat. So the total you have left after k deaths is (1-y)^k; we'll define x = (1-y) for the sake of notational clarity. Let's say it takes n deaths to get to 0; should be pretty straightforward to get a rough estimate based off FSC heat leeching runs. Then x^n ≈ 0; let's round it up to 1% = 0.01 to avoid dat infinity. So x ≈ (0.01)^(1/n).
Plugging in some random numbers, we have:
n -> y
2 -> 90%
3 -> 79%
5 -> 61%
7 -> 49%
11 -> 35%
13 -> 30%
I feel like 30% (corresponding to ~13 deaths to drop all heat) feels a bit closer than 55% (corresponding to ~6 deaths to drop all heat).
Speaking of the wiki, this is interesting: "If the player who died should have any item that saves them from death or instantly resurrects them, they will not lose heat."
Do such items exist?
Probably the red item that heal you, i forgot what was the name of this item o-o
It was removed shortly after: Maybe the developer was thinking of something that didn't exist, or there was early plans for a resurrection usable.
It appears on the very first version of the wiki page "Heat", which was made by Cory, an employee of Three Rings. It has also survived many subsequent edits by Equinox, another employee of Three Rings. So the information seems reliable.
