Hi guys! I'm Fleet-Miss-Gun, and I'm a Cobalt Knight. As you all know from perusing Hall of Heroes, a Cobalt Knight is one of the 9 classes of Spiral Knights. (Striker, Gunslinger, Bomber, Specialist, Cobalt Knight, Guardian, Elemental Defender, Shadow Defender and Piercing Defender), and I have gone down the very equally valid path of being a Cobalt Knight, because being versatile sounds pretty cool, dude. Here's my guide:

-Work your way towards a Azure Guardian Helmet
-Work your way towards a Azure Guardian Armor
-Work your way towards a Aegis
-Work your way towards a Leviathan Blade, a Valiance, and a Nitronome. Alternatives to this would be a Cold Iron Vanquisher, a Big Angry Bomb, and Irontech Destroyer

This is all there's to it! Hope I helped! Cobalt Knights don't have anything to do with crippling overspecialization. We mostly just do everything in the game (except things that can get you banned), killing monsters in the process. You might think we should equip weapons with special type damage, but that's the job of Striker, Gunslinger, Bomber, and Specialist.

a joke, but

I know it's a joke, but I can't resist pointing out that Cobalt armor is actually extremely specialized, to fighting monsters that inflict piercing damage and no status --- that is, unthemed beasts and slimes. The game "misleads" new players into disadvantageous equipment choices. Or maybe the traditional enemies of the Order of Spiral Knights inflict a lot of piercing, and the Order has just not updated its general-issue equipment for the new reality of being stranded on Cradle.

@Bopp

Yes, the armor is actually not a general purpose armor. It's just my theory in the lore that the first knights that lands into Cradle encounters so many non status beast and jellies that they decided to just make piercing armor as "general purpose armor" because that's the monster you only encounter. It could be wrong though. Either way it's outdated.

Still, the weapons are versatile since deal normal damage.

Before landing on Cradle, everyone just played LD all day with unnerfed toothpicks. There weren't any wolvers on the skylark, so they were unable to craft skolver coats.

Jorin sells them.

Regardless on how specialized that shield. If Jorin sells them, IT'S a part of this class.

Not recommended though.

That's not very general.

Three Questions I was wondering about

Q1) What are my chances of soloing FSC with an azure guardian set?:
Q2) Calibur's big brothers are known as Tempered,Ascended and Leviathan Blade right? So what is cold iron craver and vanquisher to it?
Q3) If Jorin is the one who sells the stuff then can you get it for me instead? He's too mean and won't let me look at his recipies :'(
THANK YOU

agree

Oh, I agree that this Cobalt Knight must be a remnant from the pre-Cradle days of the Order of Spiral Knights. That's why I'm so interested. Fleet-Miss-Gun, can you tell us anything about the enemies that we fought in those bad old days? Porcupines perhaps?

@Bopp Many types of non

@Bopp Many types of non status beast.
Also alpha wolver are not rare and are very powerful due to tracking back in the old days.
And there's Vog cubs, too.
And the first enemy you encounter is a slime.

@Legend-Knight-Hadi
1. Very high, because zombies are slow and Trojan is as predictable as a Bay movie. Also you can dodge everything.
2. Cold Iron Vanquisher is an undead hating cousin of Leviathan Blade. CIV is still good against other monsters, though. Just not as good as good old Leviathan Blade.
3. Go report that bug. I'm too cheap to give a recipe because it doesn't help me killing monsters in the process.

Hey Fleet-Miss-Gun

Zeddy already told me that I'm a Cobalt Knight, but I wanna make sure, because I think that I forgot something.
It's a problem I use and like of weapons of others classes? It makes me not to be a Cobalt Knight?
I like the versatility, but sometimes I need something different, like Final Flourish and Prismatech Alchemer.
It's a problem I use armor of others classes to specific missons?
Alike I said above, sometimes I need something different. And I like very much of guns and ASI that Gunsliger set offers.

I'm asking to be sure of my playing style, although I have begun to be more sure of it.

I got a idea

Maybe we can do a text that explains each class, talking about game style and tips about each class. And put this on wiki.

Being an Azure Vanguard...

Being an Azure Vanguard, I've seen many deaths on my way to becoming who I am today. Because of that I've marked specific enemies to target for the ultimate revenge. Those are: Undeads, fiends, slimes.
I strayed from the path of the Leviathan and went for the Cold Iron Vanquisher, Callahan, Sudaruska and the Big Angry Bomb. Even though I still have the full Azure Guardian set, I use those four almost all of the time. Even though I've strayed from the Leviathan's ways, am I still an Azure Guardian?

Azure

I have the 5* set, not including the Nitronome. It's good gear, but isnt very useful if you plan on doing lots of FSC. My other 5* armor is Vog Cub, which is probably the best for FSC. I still use my Azure Guardian Helm and Aegis in any run with many piercing enemies, along with Vog Cub Coat and usually combuster and Sentenza/Polaris.
I have found that the Leviathan Blade is VERY useful for wolvers. Walk around in a wide circle while preparing your charge, and attract all wolvers into a clump. Then, walk into the crowd and release your charge. The Leviathan Blade is dangerous to anything if you can corner them and smash them with a charge.
The Valiance is a magnificent gun all around, and is even useful in T3 LD. It's so useful because it's so easy. You don't need to get into tactics or weird rituals when using it, you just shoot stuff and make it go boom. The knockback is good for protecting a weak or AFK party member, and can also be useful in a retreat. The charge is also versatile, and makes things go boom.
The Aegis. It's beautiful. It's strong. It's good against jellies. The only thing that I really dont like about it is it's weakness to Lmbers. If you're into swords and hitting Lumbers WITH the swords, the Aegis is not the best choice. If you have no alternative to the Aegis when fighting them, pull out your Valiance and make stuff go boom.
So there you go. I recommend this set to anyone, but you will most certainly need other gear to compliment it.
Stinkmaximus, Vanguard.

Why would you bother using the Azure Knight/Aegis set when it's completely outclassed by the Wolver line and BTS?

How is it "doing everything in the game" when you ONLY resist piercing damage and you can't deal bonus damage on ANYTHING?

I think you use the term "Hipster" here?

There are definitely a whole lot better ways to play these game other than using standard cobalt, but some people like to be those special diamonds in a box of dull pebbles.

On topic: Why should a BAB that's slow and powerful fit under Cobalt gear? Should it not belong to a Guardian? Also, why don't you have Brandishes listed here?

There's a difference between being a "hipster" and just plain using bad gear. I'm a hipster. I use weapons like Sudaruska, Irontech Bomb, and Nova Driver. I don't touch the crappy noob gear like Aegis or Valiance. Hell, I even have a winmillion, though I stopped using it until they bother giving it a 5*.

Heyhey, Valiance is not bad at all...

I could probably solo everything using just that. Probably.

Aegis/Exalted Honor Guard are probably viable shields for someone who does not specialise in swords. Granted Ironmight Plate is arguably better, and Royal Jelly as well. But eh, these belong to a different thread.

Nitronome is great.
Leviathan Blade is mediocre.
Valiance is...well let's say Valiance is, at best, as good as Volcanic Pepperbox.

Thread Derailed.

My opinion on the normal weapons, and the cobalt set. It may not be the best set there is. And some would go as far and say that it totally sucks. And they would be right, to a point. It protects against piercing, which is good against beast and slimes. If they choose to craft it to 3*, they are ready to face the royal jelly palace, a great level to farm for cr. Another plus is that the recipes are given to you in the missions. So that cuts down the cost of crafting by a bit. However, there are other armors that are better choices, like the wolver set, or the jelly set, even thought that also isn't that great. But if you want an all around type, you can't go wrong with the Valiance and the Leviathan Blade. While you may not deal great damage, you won't deal horrible damage either.Normal weapons are good for arenas. A course, you could just equip extra weapon slots, and fill them with all the damage types, but to each their own.

Um...I OWN a volcanic pepperbox. It's pretty good, but mostly outclassed by the Blitz Needle, which I also have. VP is a fun weapon, but not usually worth using in my loadouts, even with the CTR High uv.

I still hate valiance, but apparently it's not totally useless like iron slug.

There are no "super op" weapons, though blitz needle and polaris need some minor reworks.

Also there's a huge difference between "not super op" and " useless like iron slug".

Better set

This set is easy to get, but will only get you killed in T3. There isn't a single level that only specializes in piercing, the wolver levels even have slimes. On the other hand, the vog set makes your swords fast, is great for Vana, and protects against elemental, which is much more common than piercing. I don't hate the cobalt set, I just think it's relatively ineffective in T3. Also, the only other evolution, The Almirian crusader set is so bad it's become a costume armor. Do your self a favor and go for the wolver line.

How to make the most useless

How to make the most useless endgame set not so crappy? Give it status resistances, or bonuses, ANYTHING would do!!
For the time being, it is just a joke set, and most of the times newbies won't realise this, until they get to t3 (and, sadly enough, sometimes not even after that). But is always fun to see ppl fail in those. >:D

P.S. Even tho I also have it (among my 20 sets...) eye'd rather go in royal jelly than in noobalt.

Question to steady Cobalt users

So I got a question here: Imagine you fight an arena with 12 Greavers in the last stage - what weapons would you use and how well did it end with your own experience?

Does a Levitan Blade with max CTR charges fast enough between two Greaver's attacks to protect yourselve effectively?

What is about the BAB, Nitrome or Valiance? How effective would you call these weapons in this scenario?
