How much of why YOU joined this game is still implemented?

I joined this game for many reasons:
>The lovely art design of the game
>The welcoming community
>The simple yet innovative idea of a clockwork world, ever changing, and so could be anything in the future
>The energy system. Gave me a reason to come back and plan what I wanted to make
>The straight forward gameplay; go to the arcade, run through to a boss fight, and finish for the day.
>It's free, and PC requirements were low

Now what is left in this game:
>The energy system
>It's free.

Community has since gone down the toilet from the rush of likely under-aged players, art of the game is being destroyed, slowly, by changed to the GUI and icons (what person wants shiny bevels everywhere and I didn't join the game to be spoonfed), missions killed the arcade and were implemented horribly (you can skip all the levels before 23? Make us run the arcade before getting to the mission lobby, which starts at depth 0, 4, 8, 13, 18 or 23 because if we had lifts to any depth, why do we bother fighting monsters), and no new note-able content has been added so they never expanded on the ability of the world to contain anything.

Arcade was killed by missions: I miss jigsaw valley. I know I can still play it in the arcade, but being a by gone end game player, what would compel me to play the arcade when I can skip these levels and save time. In the end I need the crowns for costumes and such and these levels are just wastes of money in their current state.

No new note-able content i.e bosses. Seerus is in all honesty a pain to run because of the shielded monsters, and Arkus is in a mission, offering little to no payout. And no, black kats come and go, and punkin king isn't a boss.

The missions also killed the energy system. I have no reason to come back, as I can run 2 FSC's a day. That's 200CE, a day. And nerfing too; I used not bother with a FSC run in full 5 star because it WAS HARD. Zombies owned me and wolvers scared the hell out of me in t3. Now I just brandish charge all I like and can survive, even if they weren't nerfed I would be fine.

SO, what's left in this game that you first joined for? I can't see a whole lot left for me, so, I ask you, why are you still playing?

I joined because:
-It's a fairly low-requirement game most of my friends would be able to run and play with me.
-Radiant Sun Shards was the best thing ever.
-The graphics are pretty.
-Did you see the eight-directional projectile explosion? That just tickles my retro-bone.
-Music is great.
-So satisfying to use that bomb. One of the most versatile weapons I've seen in a videogame.
-The action feels solid.
-I like bombs.

Most of my friends left the game, but I found other SK playing friends in SK. On the other hand, I mostly play my own music instead of the game's. By my estimate, there's still about 50% left of what I liked about the game.

I like

I like helping people on runs and so get to play all over the clockworks. When was the last time you went somewhere you weren't expecting in this game? you should try it.

Gotta say, you're missing out by not doing the arcade. Then you'd know that 4 new monsters have been added to the game in the last month. I consider that note-able. Plus there are some scary combinations of arena monsters lately. Remember arenas?

the game hasn't changed, as much as you have changed

The game hasn't really changed much. Everything that you used to love (the artwork, the Arcade) is still here. Some minor things (the DA charge, the UI) have changed, and some major things (missions) have been added, that you are free to ignore.

What's changed is YOU, in that you have done everything the game has to offer. That's inevitable. You can't expect one game to supply unlimited content that entertains you forever. Take a break, and come back when there is new content. There's no reason to make (another) thread about it.

The new mini monster are literally spam machines. I know they're called "swarms," but they just spawn in large numbers and all attack at once.

AND gorgos is a reskinned alpha wolver, pre-nerf.

And what I was trying to say was, If I want to play the game, why go to the arcade? it takes roughly an hour to do the prestige missions and I don't have that much time to play. The arcade has nothing to offer in terms of anything, and arena payouts are nothing compared with doing depth 26 and 27 of FSC alone (because of the 500cr fee).

I stuck around because:

-No excess of costume type stuff made the game look clean compared to TF2, which was what I played before
-I LOVED the art style, especially the clockwork theme and the old art on the divine avenger's charge, and how cute everything is.
-More than healthy flow of content (new items, bosses, etc. coming out a lot.)
-Playerbase seemed nice/mature
-The open world of the clockworks! It seemed infinite. It still does, but it isn't getting bigger as fast as I thought it would...
-No levels other than weapons and heat. Being tied to my weapons felt nice.

Then later I stuck around because:

-I like to argue with people on forums, its good practice for what its worth.
-I like to watch people's hopes and dreams crushed, its good practice for what its worth.

okay, I'll bite again

The arcade has nothing to offer in terms of anything

The arcade is the same as ever. It offers exactly as much as it always has, except for a couple of minor changes:

A. Due to the Hall of Heroes, there are fewer recipes to buy from Basil and resell elsewhere at a profit.
B. Due to missions, it's harder to find a party (but still not very hard, and you can play solo anyway).

If you don't like the Arcade now, then either:

A. You never liked the Arcade...or
B. You have changed.

Obviously the latter is true. And what has changed about you? You've played Spiral Knights long enough, that you've done everything too many times, and it's boring. That's too bad, but it's not worth getting upset about.

You seem to miss the point. I haven't changed at all.

I have always enjoyed gaining crowns, so when missions came out I simply thought, "These are rather boring," and so continued playing arcade. The arcade slowly emptied and so I stopped playing for a while. After coming back, I played King of Ashes to get my crowns, but since Money is no longer a priority to me I would love to play the arcades again.

However, there are so few EU parties consisting of people that will go past depth 23 that there is simply no point. And with the compounds featured a lot, I'd rather not solo (not too easy to fight solo a horde of those mini-monsters).

">It's free, and PC requirements were low"
Clearly, you have no idea what you are talking about. Before the blast processing (since the launch) the whole game ran usually really slow for most players but past that patch everyone got a major speed boost. Ever since that patch performance did not decline. I have no idea what are you basing yourself but I'm 100% sure it's your faulty setup. Most people who run on Windows Vista/7 do not disable Aero, Aero is a real hog for when your card is really low-end (mine is Radeon HD 4650, real low-end so I have to disable Aero for games or otherwise I'll get input lag and choppy framerates).

I'm sorry to have trodden on your feet there '^^

Anyway, It was mac available, and my mac was pretty outdated at the time of me starting the game. SK was one of few games I could run on a mac, and on the slug of a machine it is.

Yeah, if you don't provide

Yeah, if you don't provide any info on your hardware etc. then I can only tell you that your anecdote is basically worthless. It's basically like the old people like to bicker "oh, back in the old days (...)".

Eh, why not.

I joined because:
- I would get a free hat.
- My friends were playing to get their free hats.
- My friends told me it was fun and that there were hats.
- Did I mention I came in from Hat Simulator 2?

Once I got my hat, I decided to stay because:
- Doctahwahwee seemed nice enough.
- I got to run around with a cool hat.
- Some of my friends stuck around after they got their hats and they liked the game.
- I enjoyed hitting things a lot with my Calibur and playing with my friends.

Fast forward to now, and what's left? Err...

- I get to wear this Fancy hat as I run about.
- Doc disappeared twice, and many of my friends are inactive now, but I keep in touch with them and have new ones to play with.
- I am still hitting things, but with Swords, guns, bombs and whatever Winmillion is supposed to be.

...I have very low expectations, now that I review this.

i joined because, it's zelda

i joined because,

it's zelda like: hearts, pots, pickups, and slicing bushes for money

Cute: the icons (that's why i dont support changing to realistic look, it'll destroy the cuteness in the game)

Community: I still think the community is pretty friendly, it really depends of what kind of friends you meet, guild community, I have to say the guild i'm in is a very big part of why i'm playing.

Simple and chill: life at clockworks is fairly, simple, no need to level up your character, you can easily buy your way in to 5*. You can just afk in haven and do runs occasionally. Only game where I can just chill and chat and won't be left behind by updates and new contents.

I joined because it was a new

I joined because it was a new game on Steam that apparently played like a very cute Monster Hunter.

I quit because there was no way to use the elevators that didn't take more time than actually playing the game.. or wasn't expensive in terms of real cash.

I came back recently since someone told me Elevator Passes are a thing. I've always loved the game and how it feels to play. The art style is great, and the gameplay is fun. Can I really ask more out of a game? As a bonus, I get to aim for cool toys to use. Maybe be a fashionista in my spare time. I myself don't see why you'd stop playing just because the missions are over. The clockwork present a MUCH more different style of play, and challenge, missions just don't have. There's lots of times you don't quite know what to expect, and having to survive for so long to reach terminals is it's own challenge. Not only that, having an elevator pass makes the clockwork quite lucrative. I can earn quite a bit of cash just playing in the amount of time it would take to cheese the crowns out of the game.

The drops from clockworks are also much better. Seriously, missions give crap in terms of any reward just for fighting through them. Not unless you happen to like the standard issue gear, I guess.

Shoot, I was wondering why I couldn't see anything when I logged in, apparently the art has entirely disappeared!

Hey! the GUI is an important aspect of the game's art. Now it's all shiny and beveled, armour/helm/material icons are going to be changed too so the simple design of these things (and layout in the case of the UI) has disappeared.

Yeah, our invisible knights

Yeah, our invisible knights really detract from the game, too. :(

GUI is one thing, but the art of this game has not disappeared. I will admit that I am not the biggest fan of the new UI (in fact I kind of hate it), but my knight has not changed in appearance at all. In fact, all of the steps taken with customization (eyes, height adjustments, accessories, etc) have been implemented wonderfully and haven't detracted from the game's style at all. Just because you hate a facet of something does not invalidate everything else. Unless you literally only joined for the UI and hated the style of the characters, and if that is the case I apologize.

somebody who loves gaming

i joined because of the potential this game showed. i really enjoy dungeon / level designed games, with a good variety of foes / monsters. i also liked the idea of the rotating Clockworks where sometimes you get an awsome random phantom-filled graveyard.

things that make Jumpy mad:
1. nerfing of enemies and payouts
2. mission design which makes it easy / lazy to get to certain levels which pay well....side-stepping the actual process of work and honing skills
3. the adding of trivial tiny monsters and swarming small areas as an attempt to make levels difficult....instead of taking a minute to actually think out an imaginative level design with some truly creative monsters (for example: why not add wizards which can summon monsters to help defend them when we are about to vanquish 'said wizard' .....or how about some more LARGE sized monsters like trojans which appear alongside or in the midst of a horde of small monsters......or how about completely re-thinking level designs, with moats or rivers which divide levels that we have to cross...bridges and such which need switches guarded by monsters to lower......i dunno, anything creative would be nice, not re-skins.....so lazy)
4. no new great Boss levels since Shadow Lairs or the few prestige Bosses

these are just my views, i do really enjoy the graphics and art design as well as good battles.

- Jumpy

Stepped on toes again.

Yeah, I believe I over generalised with the game art thing; it still looks beautiful.

But with all the changes that have happened, I feel sad that the game is, in my eyes, an emptier, less immersive game than it was a year and a half ago, even with the same graphics.

Thank you for your replies so far, you're helping me silver linings where possible :)

Hmmm...why I joined?

I joined spiral knights because a friend who was a fellow fan of Legend of Zelda and Final fantasy Crystal Chronicles recommended it and it is its own version of it in its own right just in a cute unique way the dungeons(clockworks) are fun and the monsters are fun to fight. But I dont likehow they nerf everything from monsters to sword to bombs. The energy system works very well in as a way to stop some.people to not constantly play (unless you have Android energy pass...) but over all I love it and the community and hope they improve the game!

duh

Isn't it obvious? Three rings is just trying to transform the game I loved a year ago into Team Fortress. They don't give any fudge nuggets about weapons, everything you wear costs a sh!tload of money, and now, they have to make everything "look better".

OBVIOUSLY MAINSTREAM.
